I woke up before the sun had even risen, getting myself ready for my first day back to work. Wearing my ordinary white shirt, black slacks with black shoes. Grabbing the car keys on top of my drawer, before leaving Stella sound asleep in the room.
As I silently opened the apartment door I faced my bedroom door and whispered to myself.
“I’ll see you later”
As I stepped out of the apartment, I saw a figure standing there at the side of my eye, causing my body to jerk in fear to only see a weirdo leant against the wall. The end of life, the finisher of my world standing there with a smirk on his face.
“Morning, Emmanuel”
Stephan stood there arms crossed waiting for me to appear, I never knew his life was this sad.
I even started asking why couldn’t someone had reported him for suspicious activity so I wouldn’t have had to seen him at work.
“What do you want?”
“Nothing. Nothing at all, I just wanted to know when my ‘friend’ was ready for work”
I stared daggers in his eyes, telling him to go away. Knowing exactly what mountain is going to be of my desk.
“If you want a ride hurry up or go wait for a bus”
“Wait”
As I walked in the office, trying to distance myself from the man who keep following me. I could sense the hatred in everyone’s eyes just being directed at me.
Whispers filled the room, while Stephan stood behind me loving every second of it.
Just how much of my work did Lucas give everyone else to do.
But I had no other choice but to continue on into my office. As I sat on my chair trying not to think about the day I’m about to have.
A flashing light on my landline appeared. I pressed it, to hear Ralph’s voice asking for me to come see Mr cole.
“How did he even know I was in the building”
“We heard the whispers of your name around sir”
I couldn’t hold myself back from giving out a long sigh, as I left my safehouse and headed for the main boss, not knowing why I was even called.
But as I walked out the elevator I felt a gloomy aura exiting Mr Cole’s door and it got even stronger as Ralph opened it to let me in. It wasn’t until he turned around in his chair was when I understood.
A tear came down from his eyes, while his mouth shivered as he tried maintaining a serious face.
“She kicked me out the house for not telling her about you getting married after I found out”
I turned my head and pointed toward an uncleaned area in his office.
“Is that why your clothes and boxes are scattered over there, and you look as if you haven’t shaven since the last time we met”
His eyes that were staring into mine swayed to look at something else as if to say everything I said was the truth but he couldn’t admit it. He turned back around in his chair and watched out from the window.
“She said to invite you to go on a two day vacation in the next few weeks”
He stood up and grabbed his black coat that laid on top his desk and started walking toward me.
“I don't think I could make that, I have a lot of work to catch up on, haha”
He set his hand on my shoulder and looked me in the eye, it felt as if he was trying to give me puppy eyes, but it failed midway through trying.
“I don’t know, I already took time off from work”
“Too bad, If you don’t come and I don't have a home, then you don’t have a job”
He let go of my shoulder and started walking toward the door. As if that wasn’t an indirect threat.
“Do I even have a say in this”
“Nope, Ralph I’m leaving now”
He closed the door leaving me inside his office with only my thoughts. Until all I could think about was what Stella was doing at home.
