Antarctica. Year 3006, in an icy underground tunnel system.

The faint sound of military gear clacking echoed through the dark corridors. Light flashed through and shadows shimmered on the frozen walls as a group of people in heavy white suits made its way through the unknown area.

"Have you ever seen one of these bastards from up-close?", a lady in her mid thirties asked a tall grown man next to her as they walked forward. She was talking about the alien demons that came to earth 10 years ago of course.

"Close enough to be taken aback by some of their human-like features. But the noises they make... makes them look like grown cockroaches, nothing more.", the tall man responded with an amused chuckle, his hands always at the ready to use his gear if something were to approach them.

"Well they certainly are as nasty and hard to kill as cockroaches. I once saw one of them take out an entire squad... lost some friends."

"Here for revenge then?"

"Oh, ya bet!"

The squad became silent again as they proceeded, slowly approaching a hidden cave complex.

"Shit, why do they always have to hide in cold areas... really makes it hard for us to move around. What do you think, Caleb?", the woman complained as she watched a cloud of her freezing breath disappear.

"It's a strategy. You see this?" He, who was called Caleb, went down on his knees, pointed at marks on the icy surface underneath them.

Claw marks.

"Their claws are so unbelievably sharp they use them for a steady grip in the ice, while also moving fast forward. This is like a playground for them. So…  What we're doing here is basically a suicide mission... this is their turf and we're walking right through it."

A cruel reality, but it was normal for humanity to make this kind of sacrifice in these daring times. Also to acquire more knowledge.

"Crazy... but you don't actually think that they are that smart, right? They are just feral beings."

"Oh, you have no idea-"

"Cocoon spotted!"

The voice of another man interrupted their conversation and everybody's attention focused ahead.

They gazed upon a wider area. Something that looked like a carved out cave as the center of these labyrinth-like tunnels, with a thin icy ceiling, offering some light. As the squad sneakingly made its way into the more open area, even Caleb got to see the pillar in the back, shaped like a spider's cocoon. The group spread out around said cocoon, while covering the different routes leading into that cave to make sure no unknown being gets in or out.

"Is that the only one?", the woman asked.

"It does seem so. Our radars are not picking up any other signatures in this place. But still... proceed with caution.", the leader of the operation, a man probably in his 50s responded and slowly moved closer towards the cocoon. "Come out... you fucker... we know your senses are beyond ours..."

"Yeah, like we could ever easily kill them in their sleep.", the woman scoffed and earned a not so amused glance from Caleb.

"Something ain't right...", he said as his focus quickly rushed around the room. Before he could’ve shared his thoughts another woman of the team let out a noticeable gasp.

"Sir, t-the cocoon is open from this side and... it's empty.", she stuttered after inspecting the back of the construct.

"What? Then how do we have one signature he-"

A black shadow suddenly flashed from above and landed right behind the operation leader. The nasty clacking sound of foreign metal hitting the ground could be heard as the head of that very man slipped from his neck and fell to the icy ground. He got decapitated in a clean and swift cut.

And there it stood; the almost immortal pest from another dimension. Black armor covered vast majority of its humanlike body as its exoskeleton. A tail shaped like a human spine with a sharp, knife-like end - now dripping with the blood of its very first prey. The noise of a hiss echoed through the cave and before everyone present could grasp the entire situation they raised their weapons to attack. "Fire, fast!"

One shot. It was a miss. Another shot. Another miss.

The alien creature moved too fast - sometimes too fast for the human eye to catch up. It was the beginning of a bloody massacre and the icy blue-white floor started to turn red.

Painfully Caleb had to witness how his team fell one by one to the monstrosity that had somehow deceived them.

"Caleb! Use the armor!", the woman, who shall be remembered as Claire Redford and Caleb’s dear friend in arms yelled at him, as the malicious creature pushed her to her ground, opening its horrifying jaw ready to bite through her protection with no difficulties.

Caleb fulfilled her dying wish as he pushed a certain button on his personal suit, revealing new technology that started to cover his entire body. Of course humanity had been working on this in the past few years to finally be able to beat the unholy intruders of their planet.

His body was now covered in white armor. It looked  similar to that of his enemy. With determination in his eyes he then pulled out a sword with a blue glowing blade made out of plasma.

To his surprise the alien did witness this with a certain interest as it got up from its last victim, assumingly taking on a fighting stance. Though its slow walk to the side reminded one of a wild cat, observing its prey.

"Get ready to die, you little pest!"

Caleb charged, now with highly advanced speed and started to swing at his foe. There was certainty that this weapon could cut through the undefined steel that protects his enemies body, but before he landed a hit his movements came to a halt as fast as they had started.

One black, sharp claw had grabbed the handle next to Caleb's hand and for the first time in his life he had a very close look at one of these lifeforms. His attack was blocked… just like that and his heart started racing and he could see his life flashing before his very eyes..

But time suddenly seemed to slow down as the monster tilted its head in curiosity and finally opened its mouth.

"Interesting..."
