Well, there it is. The ending of Cupido.
When I started the comic, 7 years ago, I had a different idea for the epilogue. For a while, I was sure that was how I wanted the story to end. Over the years though, as the comic grew, and some things changed, and I saw people's reactions, I started to wonder if that was how I wanted the comic to end. I had another idea for the epilogue, and even until about 2 weeks ago, I wasn't entirely sure which one was gonna end up on the "paper". But here it is. Different from the original idea, but I'm happy with it.
I know that maybe some people would've hoped for a resolution on Alec still having a mark somewhere (I got comments like that till the very end) but I don't think he needs one. And I think him accepting that and still allowing himself to love and be loved is what I wanted his story to be about.
I wanted this comic to explore beyond the idea of predetermined soulmates. I wanted the story to look at what other stories like this often miss, that soulmates are not always romantic, not always simple, and not always better, and above all other love. And I wanted for Victor and Alec to be able to work on their own relationship and be happy, and I wanted this to be a choice for them. So they forget their own matching marks, as wedding bands.
I know there's probably a lot more to be said on the ideas here, but for now, I told everything I wanted with Cupido. Maybe, somewhere down the line, I'll return to this story and characters, but for now, they're free to live their happy lives and I'm free to explore other stories I want to tell.
Thank you all for reading Cupido, and an extra big thanks for the lovely people who supported the comic over the years, you've quite literally helped change my life! <3
Hope to see you all on my other comics! <3
Alec has the ability to see the marks that connect soulmates. With the help of a friend he sets out to help people meet the love of their life – while still learning about the various faces of love, relationships and people.
All while trying to make sense of his own feelings.
