Felix looked at the pot of boiling water. At his feet lay pre-sliced vegetables, and a little further away, wrapped in animal skin, lay Bernard.
Some time passed, and the smell of not very appetizing food spread through the neighborhood. He scooped up a couple of carrots along with hot water with a wooden spoon. Cool gusts of wind blew from his lips, and soon he decided to try.
- It'll do... he muttered.
Taking all the carrots, he put them in his mouth, chewed, and then spat them back into the spoon.
- Bernard, say "a-a-a-a-a!" - he brought the spoon to the boy's mouth. - Come on, you're going to starve. I know you shouldn't do this, but we won't get to the village until tomorrow, and there's no guarantee that there will be a wet nurse there for you.
Felix felt sad, but he tried to feed the baby. He gently rocked the baby on his lap and tried to feed him on that cold summer night.
