As we passed the cafeteria, I was still trailing behind Ansel and the crowd got noticeably more sparse with only around a dozen people making their way in the same direction.
When we had gone past the bathrooms, only three of us remained. Me, Ms. Garnet and Ansel.
We exited the building and Ms. Garnet was holding a stainless steel lighter, along with what I assumed was a matching cigarette case.
The school yard opened up before my eyes and I took a glance at “my spot”, just to ensure it wasn’t being occupied.
When coming out of the school’s main entrance, you’ll be able to tell the yard is somewhat loosely divided into sections. Since the same school has students from ages seven all the way up to eighteen/nineteen, it only makes sense to at least somewhat separate them based on their age groups.
On the right, there's a fenced section with small slides, sandboxes and other things suitable for the youngest group, ages 7-12. It is also the only section only that specific group is allowed to enter, which is understandable due to safety concerns and whatnot. It’s the same reason the youngest ones are not allowed to leave the fenced area at all during recess, meanwhile the kids above the age of 10 are allowed to use other parts of the yard as well.
In the middle of the yard which is free to use for the rest of the students, there are bigger jungle gyms, a small basketball court and some round tables with benches around them.
The left side was entirely reserved for our “multi-use green patch”, so to speak. Our football team used it for practice, and it was where we would have outdoor P.E classes as well. It was not used for actual football games, though. Those were held in the nearest big city as we simply did not have enough space to fit bleachers for the audience.
My eyes focused in the direction my spot was, behind the green patch and at the edge of the school’s property.
Right before coming up to the base of a hill leading into the residential area, there is a grove of birch trees and a flat rock next to them making it the ideal spot to sit as you can lean on the trees.
Good, it seems to be clear.
