I got my new clothes on; my pants and shirt are black. " I guess that's what she likes, I suppose," I say as I walk outside and see Alistair and Jenny standing beside a car.
"Hurry up, we don't have alot of time." Alistair says while throwing his cigarette on the ground and stomping on it.
"What's the rush, I thought I had 24 hours to feed?" I say while walking towards them.
"You do, but there's alot you need to learn about your new life before we do anything." Jenny says while getting in the car.
I get in the back seat and ask. "So where are we going?"
"We're going to our home outside of town," Alistair says while putting the car into gear. It's a red 2013 Sonata. It's nice, but the vehicle smells like blood. I try not to think about it as we drive through the dark, deserted roads.
Alistair is driving, and Jenny sits beside him; they both look severe and focused. I wonder what kind of life they lead, being vampires like me.
After a while, we reach a large mansion on the outskirts of town. Trees surround it and has a tall gate that Alistair opens with a remote control. We drive through it and park in a garage beneath the house.
"Welcome to your new home." Jenny says as we exit the car.
The inside of the mansion is just as impressive as the outside. There are marble floors, high ceilings, and expensive-looking furniture. Alistair leads me to a room on the second floor that he says will be mine.
The room is spacious and luxurious, with a king-size bed, a flat-screen TV, and an en-suite bathroom.
"You'll be comfortable here," Alistair says as he hands me a key to the room.
"this is really nice; what did you guys do to get a house like this?" I ask as I walk around the house, admiring the marble flooring and sleek and stylish furniture. Alistair chuckles. "Let's just say we've been around for a while and have accumulated quite a bit of wealth over the centuries."
Jenny nudges him playfully. "Don't mind him, Kamen. He likes to brag about his age."
I smile, feeling more at ease around them. "So, what's on the agenda for tonight?"
"We want to teach you about hunting," Alistair says. "It's important for you to start feeding on humans as soon as possible, to increase your strength and abilities."
I nod, knowing that hunting is a crucial part of vampire life. "Okay, I'm ready to learn."
We head outside to a forested area behind the mansion. Alistair hands
me a knife and explains how to take down prey quickly. As we walk
deeper into the woods, I feel excitement and anticipation.
Eventually,
we come across a group of campers sitting around a campfire. Alistair
looks at me and explains that I cannot use the full strength of a
vampire until I feed and continue the transition to a full-fledged
vampire.
"Alright, this can't be that difficult," I say as I walk towards the campers. But as I get closer, I hesitate. They look so innocent, just enjoying a night out in the woods. Do I want to take their lives just for my own sake?
Jenny notices my hesitation and places a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "It's okay, Kamen, it's just the way of our kind. And remember, we only take what we need to survive."
I take a deep breath and focus on the task at hand. These campers are my food source, and I need to feed them to become stronger and fully transition into a vampire.
I approach the group, and they look up at me in surprise. "Can we help you with something?" one of them asks.
Before they react, I lunge forward with my knife and run toward the campers. They scream and try to run, but Alistair and Jenny have already blocked any possible escape routes.
I feel the thirst for blood take over as I go into a berserk-like rage and pounce on one of the campers, holding them down by their throat. "Please don't hurt me; I have kids!" The woman says, crying. I feel their fear, and it's so intoxicating.
I breathe it in, look down into her eyes, bite her neck, and drink her blood. I feel like I haven't eaten in forever; her blood is so delicious. Jenny notices I'm enjoying myself too much and yells at me, pleading not to kill her.
"But she tastes so good; why would I stop," I say as I dig my hand through her chest, rip her heart out, and drink from it.
"Alright, you've had your fun. Now let's leave this poor innocent woman alone," Alistair says. I look up at him and realize I have snapped, and he's noticed.
As I withdraw my hand from her chest, I see the lifeless expression on her face. Her body is still warm, and I start to sob. What have I done? I can't believe it; I was still human last night, and now look at how evil I am.
I hear another voice in the woods, "Oh my god, they're still here! Dad!? Mom!? Somebody, please help me!" a teenage girl runs towards the campers, screaming for them not to hurt her.
She sees their dead bodies, her eyes grow large, and she looks down at the ground… then she looks up and sees me, blood soaking my mouth and my hands behind my back. And if the sight isn't horrifying enough for her, she has to look at her mother's heart lying next to her.
"Oh my God! Please don't kill me! I don't want to die!" She yells at me.
I'm
still not entirely in control of myself, but I know I won't be
satisfied now that I have tasted blood until I've killed every living
creature in this forest.
"What is it? Do you want me to kill you as well?" I say in a low growl. She shakes her head and starts crying,
"Please don't! Just let me go, I won't tell anyone what you've done here…"
Suddenly, Alistair appears next to the girl with his arm around her neck and the other hand holding a knife to her throat. "If anyone dies here tonight, it will be you," Alistair tells me.
I nod, and Alistair's grip loosens around her throat as he turns and walks back over to Jenny.
The girl falls, holding her throat, looking at her mother and father, lifeless. We hear her last breath leave her lungs.
"I feel so awful, killing a family like that," I cry.
"Kamen, please calm down. As a vampire your emotions will be heightened." Jenny says while putting her hand on my shoulder.
"This is our life Kamen, Sometimes, when we feed, this happens. There is nothing we can do about it. If the girl were to escape, she would've told everyone about us." Alistair says, picking up the girl's body and throwing it into the campfire with her parents.
"I hope this has shown you why you need to learn control over your hunger. We've lived hundreds of years, some of our thousands; all of us have had to do this to survive." Alistair continues saying while grabbing everything the campers had and throwing them into the fire.
"Let's go," Jenny says, returning to the car. I head back to the car, still unable to fully understand what I've done.
Pain rips through my body, and I fall to the ground, screaming. "What's happening to me?!" I ask in pain, looking at Jenny and Alistair.
"This is what happens when a human fully changes into a vampire; your body is re-configuring itself to that of a vampire," Alistair says, smiling.
"Oh god, I'm dying!" I yell in pain.
"You are not dying. You'll feel like you haven't eaten in years, but it's just the transition phase. Once you make it past this phase, you'll begin to feel better." Jenny replies, holding my hand and kissing me on the forehead. "Just hang in there, Ssssssssskeletor."
I start to giggle at their nicknames for me as uncontrollable pain destroys every inch of my body. Tears spill out of my eyes as the agony becomes too much. I see stars and do not know if I can make it… I black out.
Waking up in my room, I look around, covered in sweat. "Just what the fuck was that? What a dream?" The sun shines through the windows and hits me in the eyes. "Why the hell is the sun so bright today?" I say, squinting, getting out of bed, and closing the blinds. I hear a door open up,
Jenny walks in.
"Oh good, you're awake," Jenny says, holding a breakfast plate.
"Jenny? What are you doing here?" I ask, confused.
"You blacked out last night once you fully became a vampire." Jenny says while putting the plate of food on my bed.
"Wait, so last night wasn't a dream?" I look around, realizing that I'm not actually in my room at my house; I'm in their house in the room they had given me.
"No, it wasn't. And if you'd like, I can quickly show you last night's videotape." Jenny says with a smirk on her face. "Just kidding." She laughs and kisses me on the forehead while I eat the breakfast she brought me.
"So what happened to her? The girl… and her family?" I ask with tears running down my face.
"We burned their bodies; no one will notice they're missing for a few days. No one will find any trace of them; it will be like they disappeared." Alistair says, walking into the room with a red shirt on and his hair slicked back, not even showing a second of sleep on his face. "A real vampire doesn't sleep, Kamen; it's too risky to be caught unconscious by your enemies."
I sigh, still having trouble realizing that this happened last night. "Can we talk about this more outside?" I ask, looking out the window at the sunlight. " I should be absolutely terrified, but I feel...good for some reason."
"Even though your emotions will be amplified if need be, you will subconsciously turn certain emotions off to protect your sanity until you come to grips with what you've done and forgive yourself, trust me. Eventually, you won't feel bad for killing and feeding." Alistair says, looking down at the ground.
