After the Christmas break, all the students were back to school. The Disciplinary Committee had a small briefing, then they were all back to their routine. The week went without any interesting events, it's been a while since Y/n was this bored. Even his routine arguments with Victoria weren't enough to put him out of the state of boredom. They only got more and more on his nerves. The last time he slept with her was around a month before, so Y/n didn't really see the reason to keep her anymore. "Don't ask my why I love you, because I don't" he thought every time she told him those three words, he never really wanted to hear. Or maybe he wanted to. He didn't know.
His thoughts were disturbed by the sound of alarm. Y/n recognized the code immediately, it was fire alarm. The teacher started instructing the students right away, leading them out of the building. In a matter of a minute they were outside. Y/n's eyes watched his surroundings, the firefighters were already entering the building. Something wasn't right though.
Y/n spotted Dante walking around nervously, instead of standing with this classmates. He made his way to him, parting with the other members of the Committee.
-Why are you not with the others? - Y/n asked.
-I can't find my sister. - Dante answered, panic in him rising. - I checked everywhere, I don't see her. I also didn't see her leaving the school...
-Where did you saw her for the last time? - Y/n asked sharply, his nerves rising too. Dante wasn't listening to him though, he was talking all the time with more or less sense.
Y/n's POV
I slapped Dante's face and repeated my question once more. I was sure I glared straight in his eyes at that time.
-She was in the IT classroom. - he said finally. - I didn't see her coming to history class.
I didn't say anything to that, the information was enough for me. I didn't think of my next steps. I just ran. I opened the door to the evacuation exit and ran in the building before someone could stop me. I had to find her. I tried to keep my nerves on the leech, but to be honest, I felt like a wreck. Vergilia was in danger, I could lose her before I even got to her. And that's when it hit me. I loved her. There was no way I could deny that anymore.
I called out to her once I neared the IT classroom, but I didn't get any response. I tried to open the door, but I couldn't, so I kicked them down. That's when I saw her, on the ground, unconscious. Her legs were stuck under one of the metal shelves that used to store paper boxes and other stuff. I didn't think of how she got there, I didn't have time for that. The smoke was around me and it was getting hotter. I took my jacket off and wrapped my hands in it, before I grabbed the shelf and tried to lift it. It turned out to be heavier than I expected, but if I dropped it, I would cause more damage to Vergilia's legs. One of them already looked broken from what I could see. I couldn't let myself to drop it, even though I couldn't lift it any higher.
With gritted teeth and a final growl mixed with a scream I lifted that shelf, I have no idea how. Then I thanked my stars that Vergilia was out. She wouldn't feel the pain of the broken leg as I would be carrying her. I had to be quick, the smoke was biting my face and lungs. I tied my suit jacket around her legs, put my arms under her back and legs to make her sit up. Then I laid her head on my shoulder and picked her up.
Then I carried her out. The door to the exit opened on their own, I saw that it was Seijurou, who opened it for me.
-Do you need help? - he asked.
-I'm fine. - I answered and carried Vergilia to the ambulance.
I didn't want to let go of her, but I knew I had to. The paramedics got the bed ready for her and also insisted I went to the hospital with them. As they were secluding Vergilia there, on of them was checking up on me. I felt quite okay, until my screaming girlfriend ran up to the ambulance.
-Are you done with holding that...- she was yelling at me, but I didn't have patience for her, taking my shredded nerves under the consideration.
-Watch your next words coming from that damn mouth of yours! - I snapped right away. - That's all you have to say to me? I just carried my classmate out of the damn fire, a loving girlfriend would ask if I was okay, don't you think? - Once I started yelling at her, I couldn't stop. - I think I have enough of you at this point!
-You don't want me anymore? - she asked. - I'm not some toy!
-You're the one who plays with me, my feelings and reputation. - I answered.
-I always come back to you.
-And once I can have you, I don't want you anymore. - I said, suddenly tired. - We're through.
She slapped me and left. The paramedic asked me who that was.
-My now ex. - I said with a sigh.
-I don't see you too sad. - said the other.
-I'm not. - I stated, then looked at Vergilia. - How is she?
-She'll be fine. - was the answer, that brought me relief. More than I would ever like to admit. - She's lucky to have a guy like you around.
I didn't say anything to that, I didn't know what to say. The school's Principal was informed that we were taken to the hospital. Then I saw the backdoor to the ambulance close. Then the engine was started and I could feel that we drove off.
