I lay down, staring at the ceiling. After having just gotten off the phone with Harmony, I’m just waiting for Isabelle to call. Absent-mindedly, I close my eyes and doze off momentarily.
Just as I enter sleep, my phone rings. Sitting up, I pick it up, and as expected it's a number I don't recognize.
There she is.
“Hello?”
“Hey sis, it’s me.”
“Isabelle? This isn’t your usual number…”
“Yeah uh. About that…”
Isabelle relays what had happened to her, not knowing I have the gist already.
“So what's the plan? Because I know you. You’ll want to get to the bottom of this and commuting might not be very efficient.”
I ask, but I know where this is going. Isabelle is very predictable in this regard. It’s not a bad thing though.
“...Yeah. But Isamu said you’re welcome to come too if you want. It’ll probably be safer too.”
“I see. Well, I'm gonna have to pass, I'm afraid.”
“I… kind of assumed you’d say that… I had to ask though.
I can hear the disappointment in her voice. “Yeah, I know. I’m just not..”
I pause before continuing.
“I’m… not ready.”
“Right… Of course. Maybe I should just come home then…”
My eyebrow twitches slightly. I knew this was coming but it doesn’t make it any less annoying to hear. It’s how things like this have gone for the past while.
“Nope. Stop right there, Isabelle. I don’t have the energy for our typical back and forth. So I’m just going to say this. Do what YOU think is right. You want to find out what's happening right? If so, just do it. Nevermind me. You know I can take care of myself. Thanks to your warning I’ll be more prepared should anything happen.”
I don’t get the usual retort or snap back. Just, silence.
“Alright… but I’m going to see if I can get some kind of intruder alarm fitted while I’m gone.”
I snicker slightly. She's taking this better than I thought.
“I can roll with that.”
“I’ll come over tomorrow morning and get some clothes then. See you tomorrow.”
“Alright. Bye sis.”
I hang up and slide down in my chair. Rubbing the bridge of my nose, I place my phone down.
“Yup. Gonna have to get out of this slump eventually… but now, time for bed.”
I walk into my room, pulling off my clothing as I do. Drooping onto the bed. Getting under the covers, I slowly drift off to sleep.
