The next morning, July embarked on her expedition alongside her trusty holographic companion. Their mission was clear: to locate rare mineral deposits and make batteries.
As July navigated the dense forest, she marveled at the breathtaking alien flora and the enchanting sights that Thalax had to offer. Her journey took her further into the unknown, where the towering vegetation seemed to have no end.
"Wait, my sensors are picking up something. Correct, several, somethings." July spotted a peculiar sight. As she carefully moved through the underbrush, she came upon a pack of strange, land-dwelling creatures. They resembled fleshy orbs with shells, with mottled skin, and curious tentacle-like appendages.
Rex's holographic form shimmered as he examined the peculiar creatures. "l call dibs! I'll name them 'Tentaclops' due to those unique appendages. It is a badass name, It just feels right, you know?"
July watched Rex with a mixture of amusement and surprise. "Tentaclops? Well, that's certainly a unique choice, Rex. I have to admit, it does have a certain... badass ring to it." She couldn't help but chuckle at the choice of name.
Unbeknownst to them, the tranquil scene was about to be disrupted. A shadow moved in the distance, and soon, a powerful Gleamstag emerged. The creature's sleek, predatory form and camouflaging abilities allowed it to approach the alien creatures without alerting them.
Rex said as he tracked the alien lifeform. "Uh oh, its another one of those fancy walkers again. I think I know where this is going. July, close your eyes, this isn't going be pretty."
July, her rabbit frame shifted nervously, as she replied, "No Rex, as much as I would like to, I have to witness this with my own eyes. But I still hope that the Tentaclops make it out of this okay."
Rex tilted his head. "I thought you would be more squeamish, after ther the whole mineral incident."
July's rabbit frame showed a touch of determination as she replied, "Well, Rex, I might have been squeamish about the incident, but this is different. I believe in understanding nature, even its harsh side. It's part of my mission to explore and learn from this world." Her gaze remained fixed on the unfolding scene, a mixture of fascination and concern in her eyes.
Rex nodded in understanding. "I see. You know, July, you're one tough cookie."
"I appreciate that, Rex," she said with a sense of camaraderie.
With shocking speed, the Gleamstag pounced on the unsuspecting creatures, its long, chameleon-like tongue striking with precision. July watched in a mix of fascination and horror as the tongue pierced the creatures, drawing them into the Gleamstag's waiting maw. It seemed to suck the insides of its prey, leaving only empty shells behind. It was a dark reminder of how fragile life was.
Though July knew that this was nature's way and the Gleamstag's method of survival, she couldn't help but feel sadness for the creatures she had witnessed being hunted and devoured.
Rex offered, "If you'd like, I can disintegrate the creature like I did last time, just say the word."
"Rex, no. We've talked about this already. Don't make me promote you to 'Bad Doggo First Class,'" July said with a hint of frustration, trying to keep things light.
Rex remained unamused. "Pfff, I'm just saying."
With that playful banter behind them, July and Rex ventured through the forest until they eventually found a river. They decided to follow its course, ensuring they remained hidden from any potential threats. As they continued their journey, they left the forest behind.
After two days of tracing the river's winding path, they finally arrived at a serene clearing shrouded in a delicate mist. It hung in the air like an ethereal veil, adding an aura of mystery to their surroundings.
As they moved forward, July's rabbit ears perked up, and her sensors picked up something that should be impossible, a faint, intermittent signal. She concentrated, trying to lock onto it, but before she could react, the signal vanished, leaving her puzzled.
"Rex," July spoke with a mixture of curiosity and concern. "Please tell me I'm not going crazy, I just picked up a signal for a brief moment, but it's gone now."
Rex's holographic form materialized beside her. "Let me-, woah, Holy shit! It's a real signal, it doesn't match any natural known phenomenon. We hit the jackpot!"
July's ears wiggled with excitement. "I couldn't agree more, Rex. If this is a genuine extraterrestrial signal, it absolutely has to be our top priority."
