The Rue K. family or for short the Rue family is really loyal to each other. Its members aren't all related to each other by blood but by their brotherhood. Leadership over the underground Nation of Fia is run by the Rue family and the heads of the Rue family can only be chosen by blood relation. The Rue family's territory is in New York. They are the number one family in The Nation of Fia, who are known for their strict teachings, loyalty, and history of leadership. Their leader is Ki Rue K., he is 56 years old. He is married to Myla Rue, who is 46. They both have four kids. Two older girls and two young boys.
The daughters of the family were raised and taught by their mothers and the sons are taught by their fathers. Xio is the oldest daughter of the Rue family, she is 24. Jini is the youngest daughter, she is 22. Kai is the oldest son of the Rue family, he is 20. Tae is the youngest son, he is 16. The Rue daughters are known for their blinding beauty and intelligence. They both would sneak out of their etiquette lessons to see how their father would teach their brothers how to spar and defend themselves.
They were raised as flowers in a greenhouse. Keep safe from the wild roses and lilies growing on the outside. They were pure, untouched by insects looking for something quick to eat. Their keeper was their mother. Envious of their brothers who were allowed to roam around in the wild grass and fields with no sense nor care in the world. They are sunflowers, whose only purpose was to take care of the house and children. Raise to be strong and bear many children, and know how to do home chores. Their father used to teach them how to defend themselves before any of the boys were born. But once Kai was born, everything changed for the daughters of the Rue household. They, once wild sunflowers, were placed in the safety of the greenhouse. Cared for by their mother and the other women of the family.
Once Xio turned 25, her father gave the okay for her to get married and have children. He said "Xio I am sorry for not letting you go sooner, but you are my first child. It was hard letting you go. But now it's time before it's too late. You must get married and have children." 5 minutes of awkward silence went by before Xio's mother arrived. The mother bowed and sat down next to her husband. "I have four profiles ready for your choosing, dear," she said. She had four profile information on four men who are interested in Xio and who she had chosen for her daughter.
Ki looked through the files in silence. The father looked pleased with one file. Ki gave it to his wife. He said, "Dear, get gifts ready for his arrival and clean out one of the great rooms for him and his family to stay in while they visit." Myla got up and bowed and left to order the women and oversee what they would be doing. Xio sat in silence, waiting for her father to talk. But he just smiled at the photo of the man she is supposed to marry. As if he was playing out what he would say to him when they met.
Xio had enough. "Father, I can't marry him," said Xio. "WHAT! Do you think it's your choice? I worked very hard to look for men who would be fit to be with my daughter." said Ki. Xio got up without paying respect to her father and left for her room. "XIO! Come back this instant" said Ki. Xio rushed to her room and found her sister waiting for her. "Jini, I can't be in this family anymore. They don't understand me, and they never will," said Xio to her sister. "What do you mean? Father and mother care for us. We have food on our plates, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our heads." said Jini. "It's more like father and mother control us, we can only eat vegetables and are always on a diet, the clothes are tight and uncomfortable, and the roof we have was made from the death and blood spilled by so many people," said Xio. "Why-" tried saying Jini but was interrupted by her sister. "Jini, do you think father would let you date the washer's daughter, whom you've been flirting with? No, they already have our future husbands on stand-by." said Xio in a "get real" tone of voice. Jini went silent and sat down on Xio's bed.
Xio grab her clothes and placed them in a bag she made from a pillowcase and rags. Her sewing skills came in handy. "Look, I am going to live with our aunty who lives outside of The Nation of Fia. Far away from their reach and power. You can either come with and be free to love who you want to or stay here where your life has been mapped out," said Xio. "How are you getting out? With what money?" said Jini. Xio pulled out her phone and showed texts between her and their aunty. It showed a caring woman who was free to be anything she wanted. Xio also pulls out their passports and ID books. "Where did you get them? Where did you get that phone?" said Jini in an amazement tone of voice. "Mother showed me where the important papers were, so I could be prepared to take over her duties. The money I saved from holidays and birthday money was given to me by the family. Aunty sent a letter to mother, but I was working on paperwork that day and saw it. She wanted to meet us. So I sent a letter back telling her that I would love to speak to her, and she sent a phone, pre-paid over." said Xio. "If mother or father ever found out whom you like, they would have you get married as fast as possible and make you have kids. Aunty has a spare room where she lives and is going to pick me up from the dock. I am leaving tonight" said Xio. Jini is still in amazement at the plan her sister and their aunty had set up. She didn't know what to do or say.
Later that day, at dinner, Xio sat down with us to eat. The mood was so heavy that the unlit candles started to melt from the mere pressure Xio and Ki were letting out. Xio had enough and said, "Father...mother, I have something to tell you. Please listen." "Why should we listen to you, daughter? I thought we were done talking about your future," said Ki. "I... I don't feel like a girl." said Xio "What? What do you mean? I gave birth to you. I think I will remember what-." said Myla, but was interrupted by Xio. "I feel more masculine than feminine. But I do like boys. I don't like having breasts nor-." said Xio. "What? ... Daughter, have you been drinking? Who has put those disgusting thoughts in your pretty little head? I knew it, waiting too long to marry you off was a mistake...my mistake. But it will be fixed as well as those thoughts you are having. Dear, call them. Tell them that the wedding will happen in the next month... wait no... in the next week or two," said Ki. "FATHER! I said what I meant. No one taught me to think about these things. It is who I feel...who I truly am. I am a man in a woman's body. And whether you like it or not, that is who I am." said Xio.
Slam...
Chair falling...thud...
Step... Step...
"Father, I am-" Xio tried to speak.
Slap...echo... Silence...
"No daughter or son of mine is a trans, no sir, not today or ever. I thought I raised you right, but I guess I was wrong...what went wrong?" said Ki. Myla gets up and tells the help and the men to leave and is showing them out. She slides the doors closed. "Father...what would you do to my sister?" said Jini. Ki stopped and looked at Jini, she was scared and worried. "She needs to be stopped. The thoughts she is feeling... are wrong. God created men and women and they are supposed to be together." said Ki. "Is being different so wrong? It's not like my sister is hurting anyone. She is only being true to herself. Other than being different, she is a good daughter. She does everything you order her to do. What more do you want from her." said Jini. "I told you they never care about what you want or about who you are. To them, you are nothing but a puppet. Created and given life to satisfy their sadistic need for total control," said Xio. Xio got up crying and left the table. Ki was in shock about what Xio and Jini just said. Jini followed after Xio.
