Vol 1_Chapter 4: Lieutenant Montana (1)

Vol 1_Chapter 4: Lieutenant Montana (1)

Oct 23, 2023

Segar got what he wanted: Although his mother could not make it home today, he knew that she would have a silly smile on her face when she heard the news. Segar also learned new things: One, he loves how alcohol makes people more sensitive and open. Two, Segar knew that he had a soft spot in his father’s tender heart. Most importantly, Segar hit the jackpot with his allowance thanks to Lieutenant Montana. At one point, she crumpled his scheme and violently threw it into her trash bin, but the next moment, she gave him the map of the hidden treasure. Segar wonders what Lieutenant Montana, his goddess of fortune looks like. How would she treat him? After all, she will temporarily be his superior. Segar’s thoughts about the mysterious secretary come and go in an instant just as liquor is poured and then drained by him and his father.

In the end, just after one bottle of Colska, Segar was defeated by his father, a twenty-year certified heavy drinker. Segar’s tolerance is not as high as he thought it would be. He is not that drunk, but Segar is surely having a hard time walking to his bedroom. As soon as the bed is in his proximity, Segar plops down and falls asleep immediately, not caring how weird his position is right now. The Segars will not come back in his dream tonight, maybe they were intoxicated just like their real self too.

The next morning, Colska delivers its final blow on Segar: hangover. Another thing that Segar has also learned about drinking, is that mass-produced liquors like Colska will strike you with the worst headache possible. Their taste is delightful, but the aftermath will make one think twice before deciding to get wasted. His stomach urges him to go for a glass of warm water, which he gladly complies with, and leaps to the kitchen in an instant. The mellow stream of warm water washes away any trace of alcohol in Segar’s throat and alleviates his stomach from nausea. Segar feels refreshed now. Next, a hot shower and a big breakfast, and the hangover will be gone. This is too much for a fun night with his father, and Segar might have started to give drinking some minus again.

The hot shower and his breakfast with fried eggs did the trick. Segar’s stomach is happy now and tells the brain to give drinking another chance later. His morning routine continues just as any teenager, by checking his phone for new messages. He does not have many friends here at Colville since he spent most of his time in high school on studying. It is just a habit. The first thing he noticed when opened his phone was his mother’s kind words and an update on grandma’s condition. A stroke hit grandma but she is fine now. The second message is from his father.

“Hey, little buddy! Did the hangover give you a hard time? If so, I bought some alcohol detox and left them in the fridge. And oh! Yesterday I was so happy that I forgot to tell you this, but Lieutenant Montana wants you at her office at 3:00 PM today. Location: Colville Military Administration Office. Make sure not to be late! Love you!

Your Father”

Segar’s father is always like that. He texts as if he is sending a résumé to an employer. The text brings up Segar’s curiosity about that Lieutenant once again. A normal citizen of Colville would have nothing to do with the military office, not to mention a newly graduated high school student like him. Only personnel of the forces and security-threatened criminals would be habitués there. Will Lieutenant Montana just be like other typical civil servants? Segar has dealt with them before while preparing paperwork for scholarship applications. Most of the time, they will be some oversized ladies with a nasty attitude. In rare cases, It will still be those oversized ladies, but with a more gentle manner, and always ask if he has any questions. Which way will Lieutenant Montana be? It will be nice if she is an honored woman of the forces and cuts him some bureaucracies. Well, whatever kind of person Lieutenant Montana is, a hassle to deal with or an epitome of how officials should act to their people, she will boss him around for a while. Nothing he can do about that. Segar closes the messages and then opens the search bar to look up the location of the Colville Military Administration Office. The Office is 2km from his house. Not so bad. He will not need to be too far in advance to get there before three o’clock.

After spending his morning gaming, Segar took a short nap and woke up at 1:00 PM. 2:45 PM, he is at the front gate of the Colville Military Administration Office. The guard, brought back to reality from his dream about being a high-rank officer, grumpily shows Segar the office of Secretary Montana. Segar then knocks on the door.

“Come in!” - A delicate feminine voice answers him.

As requested, Segar opens the door and steps ịn. In front of him is a wooden desk with textures that are arguably the product of meticulous craftsmanship. Too much for the office of a Lieutenant, he thinks. Well, it may not be too much after all considering how high the stacks of papers on that desk are. Cutting out those trivials, Segar shifts his focus to the nameplate:

“Lieutenant Montana C.

   Secretary of CMA Office”
