By the time Segar came back from Autumnus Et Folium, his mother had already been back. She gave Segar a warm smile and the longest hug. As her head laid on his chest, Segar could feel her joyful tears soaking his shirt. Her son has escaped this pitiful city. He will go somewhere big in the future. He will have enough money to take care of his family if he ever has the idea to do so. And unlike her, Segar will have money to spend for himself. She does not need Segar to come back here and welcome her or her husband to his luxurious palace in the capital. Segar has made it, that is the only important thing. All this time, she had always felt so guilty for not giving her son a better childhood with more toys or allowance. Yet, she could not do anything about it besides secretly praying for his path to be brighter than her. She has made it too.
After their moving “reunion”, with a little saving-up money that she had, Segar’s mother took him to the finest restaurant in their neighborhood. His father was not invited. He called Segar’s mother to tell her that he would have a drinking night with his buddies at work. The restaurant was nice, only the most wealthy families in Colville would come here for dinner. Segar knew about his mother's tight budget, so he gladly offered to pay for the meal with his allowance granted by his father’s manager and told her to order anything she loved. Segar noticed his mom's attention to the restaurant's signature wine. So, he asked her if he could order it and told her that he would love to try alcohol too. That was a lie though, but a white lie. In the end, Segar used up 1/10 of his newly received budget, but he did not mind that. They had a nice dinner and he loved that his mother was happy. Colville or Gravefiled, her happiness will always be Segar’s second ambition wherever he goes. When they got back home, Segar gave her the documents for her to help him fill in. She gladly took it and promised him that she would have it finished by tomorrow. About the part related to his grandparents’, she could say nothing much except that they will have a trip this weekend.
8:35 P.M, while Segar is spending time on his mobile game, another text from Lieutenant Montana comes. It is strange that she is the one who texts him first. Not once, but twice.
“Kiddo!”
“Are there any problems, ma’am?” - Segar texts back.
“By any chance your house can have a guest for let’s say… 2 weeks? I already asked the other 2 and had no luck.” - Lieutenant Montana replies.
“Well, my bed is for two people. Did you go homeless ma’am?”
“Hahaha. Have a bulletproof helmet on you next time when you come to my office kiddo! And no! I will not be your guest. The thing is, Xalos City only has one person admitted to Gravefield Academy this year. But Xalos Military Office already had a handful. They spare no personnel to help him with the process. So, they threw him to Colville. He will need a place to stay while waiting for the health check. After that, he can come back to Xalos. Can you help me with that? His cost of living will be covered by Xalos, you will also receive some chump change for assisting them. I do not want him at my place. Too lazy to cook for two people.” - Segar’s humor backfired. He hopes that Lieutenant Montana is only joking.
“Sure, as long as we get paid, my parents won’t mind!” - Segars eagerly texts back as he sees that some reward will be given. His parents would love it too.
“Great! I will let you go with your stupid joke this time kiddo! Come to my office at 3:00 P.M tomorrow to pick him up, goodnight kiddo!”
“You too, ma’am!”
After replying to Lieutenant Montana, Segar runs to his mother in the living room to ask for her permission. Well, it is not like she will refuse this offer. He was right. Getting chump change out of thin air like this is a golden opportunity for poor families like Segar’s. Plus, one more new friend at Gravefield Academy.
Just like last time, at 2:45 P.M, he arrived at the front gate of the Colville Military Administration office. This time, he already knew the way to Lieutenant Montana's office, so no need to wake up the guard. Wonder if he has been promoted to a general though. Segar knocks on the door.
“Come in kiddo!” - says the familiar voice.
“What if that was your superior, ma’am? You could be in big trouble.” - Segar did not learn his lesson and continued mocking Lieutenant Montana this time. He comes in as requested.
“Then I should make sure that he can not give me any trouble right?” - Lieutenant Montana replies while holding her holster. Segar freezes.
“Enough with your lame-ass joke. Segar, meet Monty, he is the one from Xalos we talked about yesterday. Monty, say “Hi” to this other kiddo” - Miss Montana says while looking at the one sitting on the sofa in the corner of her office, Monty.
“Sup! I’m Segar. Guess you are gonna stay at my house huh?” - Segar puts on a smile and greets Monty.
“Sup! I’m Monty. Thank you for letting me stay. I will try my best not to disturb you.” - Monty replies.
Monty is a pretty boy. Really, the term “pretty boy” perfectly describes him. He is a little shorter than Segar, who is about 6’1 ft. His skin is like what a fairytale would describe its princess. Seger wonders if this is the result of intensive skincare sessions throughout the years, or what he inherited from his parents. But it is Monty’s lips that caught Segar’s attention, they are thin, but yet, somehow look pouty. Not to mention the color is as if he put on lipstick. If judging the book by its cover was the right thing to do, Monty would be a god, who has never committed any sins.
Before Segar can have more insight into this so-called “book” Monty to see if his personality fits his cover, Lieutenant Montana cuts in:
“Great! Hope you two get along well. Now, please leave my office, I have work that needs to be done.”
“Yes, ma’am!” - Segar and Monty answer synchronously.
