"sssspHaaaa... so refreshing!" Iexclaimed, my face lighting up as I noisily sipped on the tea cup,
"Hmm..." she voiced, and then continued sipping her tea. I realized that my attempt to strike up a conversation had failed once again. Ever since Alo had paired us up a few minutes ago, the urge to initiate a conversation had been eating away at me, and failing to do so felt self-destructive.
"Choo- choo.." Very soon a non-stop goods train, stormed into the platform with a deafening noise, stirring dust from all over the platform into motion. Lost amidst the heavy metallic symphony, I thought, 'Somewhere along the lines of working on Shilpi, I must have gotten reallyyyy detached from reality,' my eyes locked on the railroad.
"So..." she voiced as the train left the platform, instantly drawing my attention, "...what about you?" she asked, most likely continuing from where our group interaction was interrupted.
"sspAa.r.gh," after quickly taking a sip and clearing my throat I smiled at her, saying, "Aaa- I am doing just fine, what about you?" and then as soon as I finished speaking, I instantly regretted losing the opportunity of being the speaker, and handing over the mic back to her once again,
She continued to gaze at me for a while before leaning back in her seat and placing the tea cup on one arm of the small wooden bench where we were sitting. I sipped my tea, briefly glancing at the opposite platform to take a break from the nerve-wracking moments of eye contact, awaiting her response.
"When," she began, the texture of her voice almost in sync with the temperature of the atmosphere surrounding us... cold. It almost sent a shiver down my spine, " '...when I turned around," she narrated, "to look at the past, there was no one except me standing in that lonely alley. I was crying, all alone...' "
For a moment everything was dead silent until a wild realization dawned upon me and I looked back at her face, totally dumbfounded,
"Remember this line?" she whispered, her short hair waving subtly with the cool breeze.
I kept on staring at her face blankly for a while,
"Hmm," she smirked, "You-"
"Chapter 36, Soumo's monologue," I replied excitedly, trying to grab that opportunity and to improve the eerie atmosphere, which was surrounding us, "You know, I remember nearly every major moment of my story as clear as day....!"
Hearing a quote of your own story from someone else is like a dream come true for every artist and I was no different. All my dense feelings vanished in an instant freeing me from the constant drama of circumstance evaluation, and a sense of fulfillment captivated me,
"I-It was justsoooo unexpected to hear that quote from you just now," I mentioned, without trying to regulate my emotions,
She was staring at my face once again, with an expression I couldn't well comprehend, nevertheless I continued,
"I am feeling so HAPPY, you know, that you quoted something from Shilpi. It's kind of a dream for us, artists... Avinash would have simply exploded with joy he-"
"Still the same..." she stated, cutting through my speech, cutting thought my excitement, cutting...
"Huh?"
...throughmy happiness,
"sssspp" she sipped through her remaining tea in a go, threw her empty earthen tea cup into the bin and then stood up,
"W-Wait, what's the matter?" I asked panickingly, unable to decipher any meaning behind what was happening,
"Nothing," she replied, with that same cold voice, while wearing her bagpack.
My mind had stopped working, and everything turned fuzzy all of a sudden as I could not come up with any reasons to explain her behavior... As she began walking away, I quickly sipped the rest of the tea, threw the cup and jogged up to her. The situation was turning uncannily similar to that night...
"Hey Onjoli, wai-"
"And..." she voiced, haulting all of a sudden and looking back at me- her face torned with desperation "...Please don't bother me any longer!"
"..."
She walked away...
Unable to say anything, I stood there gazing at her lean figure as she stormed away towards the end of the platform.
