Stepping out, steps silent the dawn not to far away. Taking more steps out past the gate he looked back and seen the door tightly closed. He was glad, wouldn’t do for people behind to get hurt because he was careless. Walking forward some more he looked down the street and noticed a few familiar faces. Straightening he started to walk slowly as he mingled with the dead walkers. Having been doing thing for a long time he got used to walking with them, it wasn’t difficult to stand beside them. It also helped that he also looked a little like them.
He discovered this when he was trapped on the highway and the only way he could leave was either by tree or to run through them. He was just starting his career dancing for the dead walkers and he had gotten himself trapped. He checked out his exit routes afterwards, but he looped around some trees and joined with the dead walkers after changing out of his bells.
He kept his pace slow and stopped for a few moments before turning around back to town. Some dead walkers looked at him but ignored him as he slowly turned to them and back again.
It was terrifying.
But he made it through the large group he had made to the other side. He walked a while longer and soon started walking normally after he was far enough away he started to run back.
He got to some of the familiar faces and waved to one of them that he knew, the one he waved to shifted from left to right and then turned to continue it’s little stroll. He thought that was odd at first but now it’s just a regular thing, his group doesn’t know that these dead walkers are his friends. He walked up to another dead walker and did a small shuffle that wasn’t too noisy, the dead walker swayed but never attacked.
He moved to a populated place and started making a bit more noise but waited for the bell to sound.
It did.
He clicked on his speaker and turned the music on to ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ and he started his dance. The dead walkers noticed and started to gather around him to sway, looking around he found his route to take and started for it. He twirled and seen that the dead walkers were enjoying his performance and the music.
He danced to the stage and walked up the steps and put down the pole so no one can get up to touch him. He turned off the speaker he had on his hip and switched it to the large speakers on the stage. He shuffled over to the lever for the power and switched it on and lights blinded his audience and he danced over to his music and pressed play.
“~Ma ma ma ma~”
Shuffling to the intro, the words started next and he really started to dance like it would be his last ever performance. One look at his paparazzi and he knew that they were trying to dance with him, if the swaying and slightly raised arms was anything to go by. He danced to a few more songs before going to his cooler where he left some water for himself to drink. His radio buzzed and he heard chatter between Gray Rivers and one of the groups that was out. They were having an easier time because he turned on the stage. Seems that he’ll have a few late attendee’s.
He switched up the list and found something that would call all the dead walkers.
“~How can you see into my eyes, like open doors~”
He took his performance roll seriously as the song played and he noticed that more dead walkers were on their way to him soon he’ll be surrounded. He didn’t want to think about it too much and just did his show, there was no way that these ones would harm him.
“Grrr,” we’ll except that one, it ran towards him in a rush. The dead walkers attending his live show became security and pushed the aggressive one away, even going as far as fighting it.
“~Jose’s on a vacation far away, come around and talk it over~”
After the small scare he went back to his performance and continued to dance while the other dead walkers swayed and enjoyed the music and his dance.
“~The winner takes all, it’s the thrill of one more kill~”
He always ends it with this song, he put everything into it to make the moment memorable for them or him it didn’t really matter. But those trucks coming up were starting to get worrying. Were they here to cause trouble?
He focused on the song, and the dead walkers were also putting everything into it. The shots were heard, at least for him and his dead walker fans started to fall just as the song ended. He didn’t like this one bit but he guess that his earlier problem was now solved. Looking up he seen that the trucks were that of the Army. The people were dressed in tactical clothing and moved as a unit.
He turned and got his music and switched the stage off. He drank the rest of his water and lifted the pole for his departure and made his way to the Army truck.
“Rager Killin, I’m the leader of this unit. You are welcome,” a man said he wasn’t gruff but then again he also lost his pretty face to one to many scars. Tilting his head a bit he looked the Army over. They certainly were an intimidating lot, would scare his group into silence.
They weren’t here to take over, they also looked like they weren’t here to take and leave. So maybe they wanted something from him?
“• — — • • • • • — — / — • • — — — / • • — / • — — • — — • — / • • — — • •”
“Pardon? What was that? Are you insulting us?”
“He asked ‘What do you want?’, it’s Morse Code. My guess is that he can’t speak and this is the only way he knows how to communicate.”
“Ah, Rover good observation. Right, well we want to speak with your group leader. We have a proposition that he might be interested in,” he studied them for a few moments gauging their intentions.
“• • • • • • • • • —”
“Was that a yes? Rover! What did he say?” he turned his gaze to Rover and only shook his head. These people, they don’t even know the basics of Army. Turning away he started walking, when he didn’t hear them coming turned his head back and flicked his hand for them to follow. He kept the bells as quiet as possible as he walked and and clicked his radio to let them know that he had company and to let him in.
“— • — • — — • • — •”
“Clicks and Guest, Returning.” The radio buzzed and the door opened and they walked in. Walking in he was greeted warmly by his group but they stilled when they noticed his guests.
“— — • — — —”
“Well who did you bring home this time Clicks?” the leader walked up. Everyone eased and started going about their business, the leader and Clicks started walking towards the office. “Come along, no point in standing out here. Get in from the cold.”
“— • • — • —”
“Something important, you say?” Leader said, “well now this conversation requires a little something. Settle, don’t mind Clicks he likes to listen to what’s happening. Think that we won’t tell him anything if its important.”
“I come here asking about a decoy. From the looks of this place, you have a good one laying around. I would like to met them and offer them a job, we’ll pay in resources that you’ll need.”
“Ah, well this decision is a group one. We can’t just let go of our family like that. But if our ‘Good One’ agrees then we have no choice but to heed to their wishes.”
“I understand, you lot have been together for a long time you’ve become a nice big family. But our mission requires a decoy none the less.”
“Hm, how about instead of resources we get a better place to stay? There’s only so much keeping this rickety old thing together.”
“Hm,” the man thought and looked to him sitting on the desk swinging his feet in disinterest. “Wouldn’t do well to have a run in with the Rotting Bones in a place like this. Especially with someone like him.”
“Clicks?” Leader asked and looked at him seeing that he was pointing to himself as if waking up from a daydream. “I don’t think we’ll have to worry about him, he’s the one that found and built this place. Plus he keeps the moral up.”
He lifted up his fist, closing his eyes and looked as if he was smiling behind the skull mask.
“Still, some things can’t be trusted to a child,” Rager said and seen that the child tilt his head like a dog. “Who taught him Morse Code?”
“No one, he always talked like that. It took a bit of getting used to, hell I didn’t even know it was Morse Code.”
“Son, what kind of horrors did you run into to loose your voice?” Clicks put a finger to his chin and thought, then smiled and shrugged. “Hm. Are you sure that you can trust this kid to look after your people?”
“He’s been looking after us from Day 1, he’s done so much for us in the past years from taking a bunch of strangers in seeking shelter. If you are going to criticize us, then why bother asking us for help?”
“I’m only saying this because we found him trapped on a stage, if we hadn’t come around he would still be up there.”
“What? Clicks was that true?” he only smiled, “You know that’s dangerous!”
“Well I’ll leave you to sort things out now.”
