Hazel,
We haven’t had much of a chance to discuss your role as my apprentice. I don’t often take on proteges so I suggest you take time to consider the precariousness of your position and behave accordingly on this first job. You are expected to ensure the safety of the ‘Charybdis’, the sky ferry you’ll be taking to Wa’haan. You should prepare yourself for bandits and expect them to attack from a range. Naturally, I assessed your combat abilities and went through your possessions to see how you might be able to handle this. It appears you are in possession of a witch’s broom. These are known for their ability to fly and respond to their handlers calls at the usage of a magic word. Whether you are aware of this or not is unclear to me but I recommend being prepared to engage this tool in battle. Due to the weakness of your party, bandits are going to view your sky ferry as an easy target. I expect you to be prepared for this in advance and quickly eliminate the threat.
On the topic of battle, I strongly suggest you watch for two other members of your party. Both Kesh’gar and Roze have exhibited some dangerous tendencies in battle. I am not fond of unpredictable adventurers and both of them are quite so. Galeas is interested in observing Roze further and Fay is always looking for more apprentices to do her dirty work but, those two are volatile for certain and if they prove to be a threat you should eliminate them as well without prejudice. If you truly have any intention of pursuing this career you’ll need to be ready to put a knife in the back of a comrade for your own survival; obviously you’re not to let them know this bit of information.
If you manage to make it to the monastery and back unharmed, and show noticeable improvement, I shall consider taking you on in a more active role and allow you to do some jobs for me personally. I see a great deal of potential in you as a spy and I believe you could even make it into the academy. Do not disappoint me. It goes without writing but you are also to burn this letter after reading it. In addition this was enchanted so that anybody except you would be placed under the effects of a sleep spell. If you see an unconscious body with this, just dispose of that discreetly.
Sincerely,
Avery Mistmoor
Hazel looked down at the slumbering body at her feet before tucking the letter away in her bag. She went back, lifted Roze from the ground, and carried her to her own bunk before leaving the room.
