Dearest Daughter,
I am hoping this letter will reach you before you depart. I was notified by Sir Dreer that Lance intended to send you and some compatriots on a journey south tomorrow morning. I am trying to write this hastily in the hopes that you'll have a chance to read it on your travels.
I hear that you are traveling south to visit the monastery in the Vulnian mountains. Your mother and I actually traveled there when we were younger. I spent a short time being trained by one of the monks who was a master in all manner of weapons crafts. Your mother on the other hand spent all her time meditating and practicing her studies in magecraft. It’s funny how time flies. It feels like not too long ago that it was me seeking training and adventures and now before my very eyes my own children are taking up the mantle. You and your brothers have taken to the Seacrest name and vision and it makes me so proud. I know you don’t like to speak about it, but I know you’ll make a wonderful inheritor when you take over the family. You’re so strong and considerate Niera. The whole town respects and admires your tenacity, myself included.
I would ask that you are cautious, even with friends by your sides. I know from experience how easy it is to feel that nothing could harm you or that you’re unstoppable. Remember, when we let our guard down is when we need to be the most wary. The borders between Dunberland and Jhaogosia are extremely lawless and bandits attack without mercy. I know you’ll do the proper thing and show them what a mistake it is to attack a Seacrest. You should also be cautious as you travel near the Vulnian mountains. In addition to the giants that live within those mountains, I have been getting reports of adventurers going missing in the woods near villages around there. That coupled with an increase in wildlife hostility and a concerning rumor about bandits and rogue spellcasters settling, I would advise you to be very considerate in where you choose to make camp. I need you to return safely home. I would be a mess if one of my own children, especially my baby, were to be harmed on a quest. I know what you’re going to say, ‘you’re not a baby anymore and you haven’t been for quite some time.’ but, how could I ever stop seeing you waddling through our courtyard with your little toy sword that you could barely swing over your head. Now you’re a full fledged adventurer.
I shall stop being a father now and allow you to refocus on your mission. Please take care to write promptly upon your arrival in Jhagosia. I have instructed your brothers to be on standby should you require any assistance. It took a great deal of effort to convince them not to accompany you, but don’t feel that you can not call on them or myself for aid. Should you need to write to me, know that I will be out of town for at least one month’s time. I have taken some adventurers and some of the king’s clerics on a fiend hunt in Erodia. Supposedly, an imp has been gaining influence pretty unexpectedly and has caused a rise in devil activity within the surrounding houses. The adventurers guild has put out a request for aid but Dunberland would like to make a show of strength by putting the threat down first. It shouldn’t be too difficult. If you would forward all of your letters to the town of Rosin I’ll be sure to look for them. It’s my first time being in this area and I’m particularly excited. Rosin lies within the territory of Erodia’s House of Ascendance and his home to not only Persaquilans and Draconians, but Grey Giants who are fairly adept at combat. I would be lying if I wrote to you that I’m not excited to test my might against some of their warriors. I may even find a few worthy to join my war band. We shall see my dearest. Please keep your fingers crossed for your dear father.
As always I wish grace upon your journey and look forward to your expedient return. Wear our crest proudly and may the waves of the sea wash over you and cleanse you. I love you dearly Niera.
Your Father,
Lord Phairan Seacrest II
