Rainbow was over for the day. She had just been in a museum, then barely survived an explosion, then tumbled down a hill through a dense jungle, then she had fallen in some mud, then attacked by a weird snake dragon, and now she was running through that same jungle, being chased by said snake dragon whose name was Slangfang.

As Rainbow ran, she was pelted by the enormous leaves and sticks in her path. Suddenly, a long something dropped down from the trees and tackled her to the ground. She dug her claws into whatever the thing was, then kicked it away into the trees.

Both she and Kryptonite stopped and turned. Kryptonite inhaled deeply and a small dark gem on her forehead began to glow with a dark light. With a shuffling sound, Slangfang stepped forward and attacked.

He lunged forwards in a sweeping motion, his claws arcing through the air. Kryptonite exhaled sharply and an explosive blast of black energy burst from her forehead gem and slammed into Slangfang with enough force to blow him backward.

Rainbow flared her frill and started to gather her light energy into a ball. When Slangfang looked up, he had just enough time to dodge Rainbow’s blast before she shot it out of her mouth.

He stepped back while holding eye contact. He then raise his arms and started focusing energy around his talons. The energy swirled around and around him until it had gathered in his talons. It then exploded outwards and started pulling everything around Slangfang in towards him. Leaves and dust whirled around. Kryptonite and Rainbow slid forwards a few inches before they dug their claws into the ground. Kryptonite shot another beam of dark energy out, but it was captured in the swirling wind and flung off into the trees.

Rainbow then let herself be pulled forwards and flew toward Slangfang at a high speed. He canceled his spell and ducked, and she almost flew past him before she managed to grab onto his tail. She then yanked it, pulling him towards her. He drew in green energy, which swirled around him and pulled him into nothingness.

Kryptonite stepped forward carefully. The space where Slangfang had just been was utterly empty. Kryptonite poked the ground suspiciously. She clawed it fiercely, which evoked no reaction.

“Where did he go?” Kryptonite said. “He’s just gone!”

“I have no idea,” Rainbow said. “But let’s not worry about that. We are stranded in the middle of nowhere without any resources whatsoever.”

“You’re right,” Kryptonite said with a sigh. She dug a small pit in the ground and started lining it with stones. Rainbow walked around the clearing and snapped the smaller branches off of the trees.

After a few minutes, The fire was crackling with a fierce intensity. Rainbow had found some berries and a few small monkeys, which both dragons were now eating hungrily.

“This monkey,” Rainbow said. “Is delicious.”

“Pretty good,” Kryptonite said. The firelight reflected off of her gleaming scales, sending bits of light all around. Moonlight streamed down through the clouds as the clouds rolled on through the sky.

Suddenly, the wind started blowing, pulling on the grasses and leaves of the forest. It swirled around the pair of dragons and extinguished the fire. In the near darkness, the only thing the dragons could see was a single beam of moonlight shining through a gap in the clouds. There was a small rumbling under the ground.

Kryptonite and Rainbow stood up and moved out of the clearing. The rumbling grew more intense and the ground started rising upwards, centered on the clearing. It reached upwards into the sky, piercing the canopy.

The trees shook as the mound stopped moving. It was eerily silent. Not even the insects were calling.

“What just happened?” Kryptonite said. She looked around anxiously.

“I have no idea,” Rainbow said. What happened? Why here? Why now? She searched the sky for signs of what had happened.

“We should go,” Rainbow said.

“Yeah.” Kryptonite agreed.

Both dragons spread their wings and lifted off, flying in a random direction. They flew over the vast expanse of forest, searching for a safe place.

“Over there!” Kryptonite said, turning in a new direction. Rainbow turned as well and saw a small mountain, dotted with caves. Kryptonite swooped down and landed in a cave.

Rainbow landed as well and turned to face the area. She saw a branch sticking out of some rocks and pulled it out. She exhaled a small burst of fire, turning it into a torch. The flickering orange light revealed a long cave that extended into darkness.

“Three moons,” Kryptonite said. “This is a big cave.”

“We can explore in the morning,” Rainbow said. “I’m tired. Let’s sleep.”

“Ok,” Kryptonite said and spread herself out across the rock.

Rainbow did the same, drifting off into uneasy sleep.
