Keiko, Eight, Rider, and Niika all came up out of the spawn point, the color of their hair the same orange color.
"Nice, Inkblot Academy," Rider commented. "Our opponent has blue ink."
"Let's do this!" Niika said, hoisting her giant kensa dynamo roller above her shoulder. "You ready?"
"Yeah," Eight said, smiling nervously.
"Totally," Keiko said. She aimed her charger at the enemy team. "These peeps are getting crushed."
"Hmm," Rider said. His dualie squelchers had been painted a purple color, instead of their usual red.
"All ready?" The broadcast voice asked.
"We ready?" Rider asked the group. The rest of the group nodded. "We're ready!" He shouted. After a few more seconds, the faint sound of the other team's leader shouting the same thing reached their ears.
"Ready? Set? Go!" The broadcast voice said. The group launched forward.
"I'll take care of painting home base!" Niika said, running around with her roller.
"Um, Keiko?" Eight asked.
"Yeah?" Keiko said, shooting long trails of ink in a radial pattern.
"What should I do?" Eight asked.
"Here, why don't you follow me?" Keiko said. She blasted a trail up a tower before swimming up in her squid form. Eight followed in her octopus form.
"Wait, you're an octoling?" Niika shouted, looking over toward Eight.
"Yeah," Eight said. "I don't have a bridge between my eyes and my hair's different."
"What did you think she was?" Keiko asked.
"I don't know," Niika answered. "I didn't think about it."
"Oh, well, now you know," Eight said. "I'm an octoling."
"Huh," Niika said. "Neat." She had finished painting around the spawn point, so she began to paint the area around it.
"Back me up," Keiko said to Eight. "Shoot anyone who gets close to me. I'll handle the rest."
"Ok," Eight said. She painted the ground around the tower, covering as much as the range of her Octo Shot Replica could.
Keiko charged up her shot and aimed before shooting. The blast of ink splatted an inkling with a long tentacle on the left side of the face. At the same time, Rider splatted another opponent, this one with a buzzcut-like hairstyle, and Niika rolled over a third that was splatted so fast that no one really saw what they looked like.
Eight knew that the fourth player was still somewhere on the map. Thanks to Keiko, the remaining members couldn't get far enough out to ink the ground.
Then Eight heard the steps of someone else running, fast. She there a splat bomb on the ground, hoping to hit the person when they appeared.
"I saw that," The person said, a female inkling with a double bun, appearing on a ledge above. Their body was covered in a shield of ink. They landed as the bomb Eight threw exploded, taking the shot directly.
But they weren't splatted. Almost immediately, the shield covering them dissipated. They raised their weapon, a gun with a hose wrapped around its center.
"I gotcha now," They said.
"No, I got you," Keiko said.
"Wha?" The person said, right before Keiko splatted them.
"One minute left!" The broadcast voice said.
"Hurry up!" The leader of the other team, the one Keiko had just splatted, said as they respawned. But the orange team was too good. Eight and Niika covered the ground in their ink while Keiko and Rider kept the other team from advancing.
"The match is over in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!" The broadcast voice said. "Game!"
Both the orange and blue teams super jumped to their respawn points, where they sunk into them to see the match results.
Looking at the map, it was clear that the orange team had won.
Judd's flag raised in the air, signaling victory for Eight, Keiko, Niika, and Rider.
"Yes!" Keiko shouted. "We won!"
"Nice," Niika said.
"Thanks for letting me play," Eight said.
"No prob," Rider said.
"And now we can get you some gear and maybe another weapon!" Keiko said. "Do you know what kind of weapon you want?"
"I would like to get a splatling or a roller," Eight said.
Eight is an octoling who just escaped from the metro. On the surface, she meets a kind inkling named Keiko, who decides to show her the ropes of life in Inkopolis.
When Eight needs a place to stay, Keiko, who needs to get a roommate to help with rent anyways, decides to let her stay, and the two become friends quickly.
But the return of sanitization, and Keiko's ties to it, gives the pair a reason to leave. They move to the new town of Splatsville
