As the boat moved ever closer, Eight became more and more nervous.
"You okay?" Keiko asked.
"Yeah," Eight said. "I just have no idea what we're doing."
"I'll explain," Keiko said. "So, at Grizzco, we work to collect golden eggs."
"Golden eggs?" Eight asked. "I know about power eggs, but what are golden eggs?"
"Well, in the many places where we work a shift, creatures called salmonids crawl ashore," Keiko said. "Most are chums, the normal size, smallfry, the tiny ones, and the cohocks, the giant ones. These ones all drop power eggs. However, there are some other salmonids called Boss Salmonids. These ones are bigger and each does something different, and will drop three golden eggs each upon defeat."
"Don't forget the important part," Niika commented. "You have to put the golden eggs in the egg basket, or they won't count."
"Some salmonids will try and steal the golden eggs if they're left out too long," Keiko said.
"Why do the ink tanks look like life rings?" Eight asked.
"If you get splatted or fall into the water, instead of respawning at the spawn point, you're trapped in the life ring," Rider said. "You have to wait for a teammate to splat you, and then you return to normal."
"Oh," Eight said.
"And there are three waves," Niika said. "Each one is about two minutes."
"Okay, I think I got it," Eight said. "Thanks."
"No problem," Keiko said. "Oh, and if all four players are splatted, then the whole thing ends.
"Ok," The voice of Mr. Grizz said through a radio sitting nearby. "Get out there and collect those eggs."
Rider and Niika super jumped into the air, toward a small collection of islands on the horizon.
"Where do I super jump?" Eight asked.
"I'll jump, and then you jump to me," Keiko said. She blasted skyward before falling down and dropping onto the island. Eight sensed her presence and super jumped to her. She landed with a splat into a puddle of purple ink.
Eight is an octoling who just escaped from the metro. On the surface, she meets a kind inkling named Keiko, who decides to show her the ropes of life in Inkopolis.
When Eight needs a place to stay, Keiko, who needs to get a roommate to help with rent anyways, decides to let her stay, and the two become friends quickly.
But the return of sanitization, and Keiko's ties to it, gives the pair a reason to leave. They move to the new town of Splatsville
