A weapon popped into the hands of each team member. Rider held a blaster, Niika held a roller, Keiko held a shooter, and Eight held a splatling.
"Aw, come on!" Rider said. "I got a blaster!"
"Ha ha!" Niika said. "I got a roller!"
"Dang," Keiko said. "That's the one weapon you are really bad at using." Eight giggled.
"Hey!" Rider said. "Stop laughing at me!"
"Salmonids are here," Niika said. "Let's do this." She swung her roller, grizzco's modified dynamo roller, slammed it down, and began inking the ground.
Then Eight saw the salmonids. They were about her height, with oversized heads, large, bulging eyes, and a red fin-crest styled like a mohawk. In the grasp of their hands, or rather, fins, were strange, pan-like weapons.
"Why do they have pans?" Eight asked.
"It's their weapon," Keiko said. "Don't get hit."
"That part's obvious," Rider said. He shot and splatted three salmonids at once. The power eggs that were dropped immediately got collected.
Eight charged up her splatling before unleashing the blast. The rapid-fire shots decimated a horde of salmonids, including two cohocks.
"Nice going!" Keiko said to Eight. Then, suddenly, a loud siren went off.
"What's that?" Eight asked.
"Boss Salmonid Warning," Rider said. "It's a Stinger!" Just as he said it, a beam shot past him, piercing through the terrain and splatted Niika.
"Aah!" Niika said. The life ring on her back flipped over and the center filled with a small puddle of her ink. She jumped around in the puddle.
"Help!" She said.
"I got you," Keiko said. She shot at Niika, and after a second, Niika returned to normal.
"Come on already!" Rider said. "Come get these golden eggs!"
"On it!" Keiko and Eight said. They swam over to Rider and each grabbed a golden egg. The three of them brought the eggs back to the egg basket and tossed them in.
"Only two more," Niika said. "Let's do this."
They attacked, clearing the salmonids easily. Eight had a bit of trouble learning how to deal with the different Boss Salmonids, but after she got the hang of it, the whole thing went smoothly.
"Nice!" Rider said. "That's the second wave down."
"One wave left," Mr. Grizz said. "Be careful. It's high tide."
"High tide?" Eight asked. "What's that?"
"The water level rises," Keiko said. "Don't fall in, it counts as getting splatted."
"Ok," Eight said.
"Steelhead!" Niika shouted. "I'll stay low, you guys go high up!"
"Got it!" Eight said. She inked the side of a wall and swam up it. From the top, she readied her splatling. The Steelhead inflated its bomb and reared back to toss it. Eight, Rider, and Keiko all unleashed their fire upon the bomb.
It burst, easily splatting the massive Steelhead. Three shining golden eggs appeared on the ground. Eight, Rider, and Niika quickly grabbed them while Keiko continued on toward another Boss Salmonid that was walking out of the tide.
Then Eight saw what looked like the bobber of a fishing line sliding along the ground toward Keiko, trailing dark green ink behind it.
"What's that?" Eight asked Rider, pointing. Rider looked and then gasped.
"Keiko!" He yelled. "Maws is behind you!"
"What?" Keiko said, turning. She looked down at her feet to see the bobber. "Oh cra-" She was cut off as Maws, a large, shark-like Boss Salmonid, burst from the ground and swallowed Keiko whole.
"Keiko!" Eight shouted, worried.
"Don't worry, she'll be okay," Niika said. "I'll draw Maws in, Rider and Eight, you two take her out."
"M'kay," Rider said. "Eight, get ready with your splatling." Eight charged it up and aimed toward Niika.
Maws' bobber approached Niika. It stayed still for a moment, and then Niika dove to the side, narrowly dodging Maws as she erupted from the ground. In that moment, Rider and Eight fired upon her, and managed to splat her.
"That's six golden eggs," Rider said. He shot toward Keiko and revived her. "Two more to go."
The Boss Salmonid Warning siren sounded. And then again. And then four more times, all at once.
"What the?" Rider said. "Six at once!"
"I see Stinger, Flyfish, Drizzler, Steel Eel, and Scrapper!" Keiko said. "Where's the sixth?"
"There!" Rider shouted, pointing into the air. Flying in the sky via two jets of ink was a metal object with a Salmonid strapped to the bottom. Attach to the top was a massive cannon, which aimed toward the team below.
"That's an Inkzooka!" Rider said. "Those aren't around anymore!"
Then the Boss Salmonids attacked. The Stinger's beam cut through, but everyone dodged. The Steel Eel was taken out quickly by Keiko, but she was splatted right after by the Flyfish's Tenta Missiles. The Ink Storm Cloud created by the Drizzler cause the team to scatter.
Rider tried to get to Keiko, but he was splatted mid-jump by the Stinger. Then Niika took out the Drizzler and then the scrapper, but again, the Stinger got her. Eight was the last one left, with all the salmonids crowding in around her.
Eight fell backward and her weapon fell from her hands. She was done for.
