"So, who are these friends of yours?" Niika asked.
"Four and Misuno," Keiko said. "They also said they need a fourth player."
"I'm not high enough level to play ranked," Eight said. "So I'll just watch."
"Then I'll play!" Niika said. "I still need to show my sis how to kick butt properly."
"You have a sister?" Eight asked.
"Yup!" Niika said. "She's adopted, but I still love her."
"I don't know any of my siblings," Eight said. "I know I have them, but octoling siblings don't have the same relationship you inklings do."
"That's kinda sad," Niika said.
"It's just the way octolings live," Eight said.
"Keiko!" Someone shouted. Eight and Niika looked up to see a yellow-haired inkling walking up to Keiko. "Oh, hey Niika." Then she spotted Eight. She froze, and her jaw dropped.
"What is it Ryo?" Another voice asked. It was an octoling, with pinkish-purple hair and baggy gray clothing. She saw Eight and also stopped.
"Ryo, Misuno," Keiko said. "This is Eight. She's from the Metro."
"Another one, huh?" Ryo said.
"I thought I was the only one alive in there," The octoling said.
"I was number 10,003," Eight said.
"I was 10,008," the octoling said. "Well. This is interesting."
"Come on, let's play already!" Niika said.
"You're playing?" Ryo asked.
"Yup!" Niika said.
"Hey, we need a fourth player anyways," The octoling said.
"Whatever," Ryo said.
"Nice to meet you," The octoling said, holding out her hand to Eight. "I'm Misuno."
"Eight," Eight said. She looked at Misuno's outstretched hand in confusion.
"Oh, right," Misuno said. "It's a thing called a handshake. Apparently, it's something you do when you meet someone new in inkling society."
"Oh," Eight said.
"Well, I'm guessing you're watching the match?" Misuno asked.
"Yeah," Eight said.
"Nice," Misuno said. "Well, we should start the match."
"Who are our opponents?" Keiko asked.
"No clue," Ryo said. "We just got an invitation to fight."
Eight is an octoling who just escaped from the metro. On the surface, she meets a kind inkling named Keiko, who decides to show her the ropes of life in Inkopolis.
When Eight needs a place to stay, Keiko, who needs to get a roommate to help with rent anyways, decides to let her stay, and the two become friends quickly.
But the return of sanitization, and Keiko's ties to it, gives the pair a reason to leave. They move to the new town of Splatsville
