When they arrived, together, Eight and Keiko were still holding hands. Niika noticed right away and grinned and both of them. They blushed and let go of each other.
"Aw, don't be like that," Niika said.
"What?" Rider asked, looking up from his phone.
"Nothing," Keiko said. "So, who's our opponent?"
"Do you remember that team that only used blasters?" Niika asked.
"Yep, it's them," Niika said. "And it's Clam Blitz, not turf war this time."
"Oh god," Keiko said.
"Who are these people?" Eight asked.
"A team we've fought before," Rider said. "Their entire team uses blasters, which makes them really annoying to fight."
"I fucking hate them!" Keiko yelled. "They are so annoying to fight!"
"That's because you're a charger user," Rider said. "It's easy for me to fight them."
"You're a dualies main," Niika said. "It's tough for my Dynamo to fight them too."
"A Dynamo's too slow, that's why," Rider said.
"You should use your Carbon Roller," Keiko suggested. "I'm switching to Goo Tuber."
"I'll try," Niika said.
"Is my weapon good against blasters?" Eight asked.
"All except Range Blaster," Rider said. "Which they have two of on their team."
"Maybe I should use a different weapon," Eight said.
"What kind of weapon?" Keiko asked.
"Maybe a different splatling?" Eight said. "Something with better range."
"The best would probably be Nautilus 47 for Clam Blitz," Keiko said. "Rider, why don't you let Eight borrow yours?"
"Fine," Rider said.
He went back to his house to get the weapon. He handed it to Eight before all four set off to the arena where they were scheduled to fight.
"Scorch Gorge," Niika groaned. "Why?"
"I like Scorch Gorge," Keiko said.
"Of course you do," Niika said. "You're a charger main."
"Let's just start the match already," Rider said.
"Alright," Niika and Keiko said. They all went into the transporter for the spawners. In splatsville, everyone spawned from floating spawners that fired them to the map below.
"All ready?" The announcer asked.
"Yes," Rider said. The other team leader nodded. All four sank into our spawners and aimed at the map.
"Get ready, set, go!" The announcer said. They burst forward from the spawners and landed on the map. After that, they immediately began moving forward and collecting the golden clams. Their ink color was cyan.
Keiko shot a line of ink ahead of everyone with her Goo Tuber. The rest of them swam ahead, collecting the golden clams, while she charged up another shot. Eight partially charged up a shot to paint the wall ahead of her before swimming up it. Once on top, she began charging another shot. Then, out of nowhere, a blaster shot of orange ink shot forward and exploded right next to Eight's head. She yelped and shifted into her octopus form. She swam away. Thanks to the Nautilus's mechanics, it held the charge.
Another blast sailed past her head and exploded against the wall. Eight noticed where the shots were coming from. She aimed her charge. The moment the inkling popped out of their ink to shoot again, she released her attack. The inkling was splatted almost instantly.
"Hah!" Keiko said, blasting her shot from the central spire. It splatted one of the inklings using a range blaster. Then, very suddenly, she was splatted too. An inkling popped up where Keiko had just been, holding a Luna Blaster.
"Take that!" He shouted. Eight surreptitiously painted the wall of the central spire. She then made sure that she had a shot fully charged up before swimming up the wall. She popped out and released the charge.
The barrage of bullets splatted the inkling in two seconds.
"Nice shot," Rider said. He dodge-rolled forward, barely escaping a shot from the other range blaster user. A ping sounded as Rider's special activated. He swam backward to give himself some space and used it.
Two massive green missile launchers appeared in his hands, with parts of them colored the same as their ink. He pointed himself toward the other team's base and pulled the triggers. Twelve bottle-shaped missiles shot out of the launcher and flew toward the other team.
They crashed to the ground and exploded, splatting the inkling that had attacked Rider with the range blaster.
Niika collected an eighth clam, which formed a large, glowing Power Clam.
"Gaurd me!" She shouted.
"Gotcha!" Rider shouted. He and Niika moved forward. When they got close enough to their opponent's goal, Niika hurled the power clam into the goal. It spun around, drilling into the barrier, before breaking through. Rider immediately began to toss his clams in. Eight swam up behind the two and tossed her four clams in. Niika's Power Clam had counted for 20, and Rider had thrown in seven, so they had scored 31 points.
Niika swam back to the central area to grab more clams. She came back and tossed them in while Rider collected some.
"Foolish weaklings," An inkling said, suddenly appearing behind them. She raised her Luna Blaster and aimed at them. She was about to take her shot when Keiko got her. Her long-range sniping attack was unavoidable.
But the other three opposing team members were quick to attack. The combined attacks from the two range blasters splatted Niika. Another holding a Clash Blaster shot at Rider, but he dodged.
Eight ducked behind a wall and charged up her shot while the inkling holding the Luna Blaster pursued Keiko. Eight aimed at the other three with her splatling and attacked.
One shot from the Clash Blaster hit her, but they were splatted too fast to hit her a second time. Right behind her, Rider shot the Luna Blaster holder, causing a wipeout.
Keiko swam up with Power Clam. She tossed it into the goal just before the timer ran out, adding time to it. Eight held one clam, but she threw it to Rider, who already had seven clams. This formed a Power Clam, which scored another twenty points.
Eight is an octoling who just escaped from the metro. On the surface, she meets a kind inkling named Keiko, who decides to show her the ropes of life in Inkopolis.
When Eight needs a place to stay, Keiko, who needs to get a roommate to help with rent anyways, decides to let her stay, and the two become friends quickly.
But the return of sanitization, and Keiko's ties to it, gives the pair a reason to leave. They move to the new town of Splatsville
