"That was fun," Keiko said, flopping down on the couch in her living room.
"Yeah," Eight agreed. "It was." She sat down next to Keiko. An uncomfortable silence stretched between them.
"I think Niika knows," Eight said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah," Keiko said. "She probably does."
"Do you think Rider's figured it out yet?" Eight asked.
"No," Keiko said. "He'd only figure it out if we told him or he saw us kissing or something."
"Oh," Eight said, her cheeks turning red. "Should we tell him?"
"We should," Keiko said. "Are you okay with telling people we're together yet?"
"Yeah," Eight said. "I mean, your sister already knows."
"She does," Keiko said, chuckling.
"Let's tell them tomorrow," Eight said.
"Yeah," Keiko agreed. "Tomorrow."
There was silence for another minute or two as they sat on the couch.
"Oh, also," Keiko said suddenly, "It turns out there's this new apartment in Splatsville that has much better rent, and I was thinking of maybe moving there. But, now that you're here. . ."
"That seems like fun," Eight said. "There's new weapons and stages over there, right?"
"Yeah, there are," Keiko said. "I heard that they're bringing back variations of some old special weapons from when I first played turf war."
"Ooh, really?" Eight asked. "Like what?"
"Well, I think Kraken, Inkstrike, Bubbler, Inkzooka, and Killer Wail," Keiko said. "Instead, I think they're now called Kraken Royale, Triple Inkstrike, Big Bubbler, Trizooka, and Killer Wail 2.0."
"Neat," Eight said. Her stomach gurgled. "Man, I'm hungry."
"Let's go get some food," Keiko said. "I'm thinking we could share the biggest size of seanwich."
"I'd like that," Eight said.
"Alright, let me grab my wallet," Keiko said. She went into her room for a second to grab it before coming out. The two went out the door and went to grab food.
The next day, Keiko sent a text message in their team group chat asking to meet in the plaza at ten a.m.
When the time rolled around, they all gathered.
"So, what's up?" Niika asked.
"So, the two of us decided to tell you," Keiko said, indicating herself and Eight, "that we're together."
"Cool," Rider said. "Good for you."
"I thought so," Niika said. "But I wasn't sure."
"What do you mean, you thought so?" Ash asked.
"There were several signs," Niika said. "I mean, it's so obvious."
"Not to the rest of us," Ash said. He turned to Eight and Keiko. "Anyways, congrats."
"Thanks," Eight said.
"Does anyone else know?" Niika asked.
"My sister does," Keiko said. "No one else."
"Callie and Marie are going to freak out when they hear," Niika said.
"You mean, the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie?" Ash asked. "How do you know them?"
"Oh, right," Niika said. "Remember how Keiko was Agent 3 of the Squidbeak Splatoon?"
"A little," Ash said. "Why?"
"Callie and Marie are Agents 1 and 2," Keiko said. "Ryo is Agent 4."
"Oh," Ash said. "Really?"
"Yes," Rider said. "They dragged me into it too, so I'm technically Agent 5. I never meet up with them."
"Off the Hook are Agents 6 and 7," Keiko added. "Misuno is Agent 8."
"Huh," Ash said.
"So, is that all you wanted to share in this team meeting?" Rider asked.
"That was most of it, yeah," Keiko responded. "The other thing is that we're going to move to a new apartment in Splatsville."
"Really?" Niika asked. "Why?"
"Mostly better rent," Eight answered.
"Oh," Niika said.
"Is that it?" Rider asked.
"Yes," Keiko said.
"M'kay, bye," He said, turning to head back to his house. "I'm going to go play more Zelda."
"What's Zelda?" Eight asked.
"Video game," Niika told her. "Don't ask him about it because he'll spend hours telling you all sorts of tiny little details that literally no one except him and two other people care about."
"Oh," Eight said.
"Well, we need to start packing our stuff," Keiko said. "See you!"
Eight is an octoling who just escaped from the metro. On the surface, she meets a kind inkling named Keiko, who decides to show her the ropes of life in Inkopolis.
When Eight needs a place to stay, Keiko, who needs to get a roommate to help with rent anyways, decides to let her stay, and the two become friends quickly.
But the return of sanitization, and Keiko's ties to it, gives the pair a reason to leave. They move to the new town of Splatsville
