A carriage sped away after a set of hands finished throwing a body at the doorstep of the infamous mansion no one dared stray too near.
Hours passed and finally, you stirred, a dull ache throbbing in his head. Splinters of wood dug into your cheek as cold rain pelted down. You blinked bleary eyes, darkness fading into a blurred scene of trees swaying in a fierce wind.
Where were you?
Panic seized you as fragmented images flashed in your mind - hands gripping your thin arms in an iron hold, a face leering as words were spoken in a guttural language unfamiliar to you. You scrambled up, clutching your head as a wave of nausea nearly overwhelmed you.
Through the downpour you saw it, looming ahead like a grim portent. A massive house sat silhouetted against turbulent gray skies, ivy creeping up crumbling stonework. Dark windows gaped empty and forlorn, seemingly watching your every move with malice.
A scream lodged in your throat, muffled by the roar of the storm. What was this place? How had you come to be abandoned before its foreboding form?
You backed away slowly, feet skidding in the mud. Memories swirled in his mind, snippets of another life that couldn't possibly be yours. Frozen plains blanketed in snow, the lush canopies of verdant forests - images alien yet hauntingly familiar.
And voices, raised in an elven tongue you somehow knew though had never heard. Melodies woven into the wind, tales passed down through generations. A kinship you ached for yet couldn't name.
You clapped your hands to your head, willing the fragments to make sense. Where was your master? Why had you been abandoned and what had been done to you?
