It felt like I was suddenly teleported into a frame of the cinema I had been watching until then...
The multi-coloured, neon lights from the stage were illuminating her face occasionally, and from what I could make out of it, her eye liner was heavily smudged due to her overflow of tears...
I pulled her body a bit closer to mine,
She was so frail and skinny that I could almost feel her bones against my arms. Yet, upclose, she was looking so freaking gorgeous, that I could not take my eyes off her.
"...Dhriti!??"
As soon as Alo's voice interrupted my unrestrained admiration of Onjoli, I realized that a concerned group of students were standing around us, their expressions a mix of surprise and worry.
"Quick," I voiced, covering her face with the sleeves of my jacket, "We need to take her inside!" The heat radiating from her fevered body was reaching my arms along with the occassional vibrations of her shivering self.
"A.. A D-Dhriti I... I-"
I glanced at Alo and observed that her senses had been overloaded by everything happening around her.
"Get a hold of yourself!" I stated, snapping her out of the state of anxiety or shock she was in. She gazed at me with moist eyes, almost about to tear up, "Y-ya..," she whispered.
Pushing our way out through the gathered group of students, both of us dashed towards the campus.
"W-where are we taking her?" inquired Alo,
"The admin block,"
Both of us sprinted towards the administration block in maximum permissible speed. The fact that I was carrying Onjoli, the girl I had secretly liked for the past two years of my life, felt almost unreal, but along with that feeling of achievement I could feel another feeling slowly creeping upto me.
Few of the students and couples who were roaming around the campus, glanced at us wearing excited expressions, as we passed by them. By the look on their eyes I could almost feel their inner desire of satisfying the imaginative side of their brain with some kind of an exciting incident.
It was like a celebration of misery...!
As soon as we reached the admin building, the duty guard noticed us. Grasping the situation, he promptly opened the doors and ushered us into a nearby room. There, I placed Onjoli on a cushioned revolving chair and while the guard left to call for help, Alo grabbed a bottle of watter and began sprinkling water on Onjoli's face. Her facial expression very well reflected her inner turmoil.
"Hey, don't blame yourself for what happened to her. She had fever and she was out in the cold for too long- It was kind of bound to happen." I whispered,
"... A-are you... sure?" she asked,
"Absolutely," I replied, wearing a neutral smile of encouragement on my face.
"T-thank you so much Dhriti for being there at that moment..." Alo whispered, her voice shaking with grief, "I didn't know w~what would have happened otherwise...!"
"You managed the situation pretty well back there, you know," I replied consoling her,
Two teachers arrived shortly after taking charge of the situation. One of two teachers bombarded us with questions while the other one was quick in his efforts to hydrate her.
After another moment or two, she woke up from her slumber.
Alo was once again very quick to pull her into a hug, her eyes full of moisture. Secretly glancing at her recovered face for one another time, I catiously walked away.
"Why did you have to leave!!?"
"I had my reasons..."
After that, as I slowly walked out of the building onto the melodic loneliness of the open atmosphere, the feeling of despair and frustration enveloped my presence of mind with an overpowering hue of loss. I found myself walking unconsciously towards a certain location within the college campus, a spot that was very dear to my heart- It was the place where I had met her for the very first time.
All of my 'fictional' conceptions about her had been overturned in a matter of moments!
Everytime I recalled the events of that night since then, my consciousness overflowed with an eerie emptiness where all the frames that both of us had shared previously ended up backfiring on me. As I stepped into the college campus, I found all of my conflicted thoughts slowly retiring back, bringing me back to that highly anticipated state of artistic calmness.
"Oh no...!"
Taking a quick glance at my watch, I realized that I was already late for the class. The atmosphere had warmed as the sun emerged from behind the previously obscuring clouds. While the glamour of that day had dimmed slightly compared to moments before, it still perfectly complemented the mood I was in.
As I slowly made my way towards my department building, I couldn't help but admire the beauty of our rain-soaked campus...
("...Don't bother me any longer...!")
But as they say, 'It's not always the brain that dictates your life, sometimes the heart becomes unavoidable...!'
Even though I was not as excited as before, an uncomfortable feeling still lasted in my subconciousness.
The fact that I was getting used to 'that'version of Onjoli was inducing a feeling of irritation somewhere deep in myself.
"She was somehow gradually drifting away from the image of 'that girl' I had fallen in love with...!"
'Am I perhaps missin-'
"Heya~," whispered an overwhelmingly positive voice from behind me, casually interrupting passive train of thoughts.
"A ha..." I recited, my face lightening up with the multi coloured hues of a radiant smile once again, "It's about time for you to make your grand~ appearance, I guess..."
