Tears run down my eyes. As I opened the letter, the voice of my father, Leonard was reading it to me. After so long I got to hear him one more time. I don't know what to feel as I wipe away my tears. Nola keeps jumping and off my lap. She clearly wants me to put on the cloak. I pull out the old piece of cloth from the box. It is dusy and worn out.
"Is this really worth a lot?" I ask, puzzled. Apparently the entierty of our kingdom covets it for some reason. However, I notice the beautiful embroidery inside and outside the cloak. There are intricate patters and lines sewn on it. I didn't realize it but under all the dust and the questionable quality of the cloth itself, the detail is microscopically frightening. But it still looks older than my father. I shake it in the air, trying to get rid of the dust. I put on the cloak, which is too big for me. It trails on the ground. But then, I feel the cloak getting lighter and it starts to shrink in front of my eyes.
I am shocked. This marks the second time I see magic. Leonard's magic! He never used magic in front me. He absolutely refused to show me anything. I don't understand why, and this entire thing is so sudden. I glance at the things at the ground. The jewelry, the key and the spiral device. And the Lirat, of course! I reach for the key, but it feels different this time. It is much lighter than before. As If I picked up a feather matter fact. As I hold it in my hands, the key vanishes. It just disappears as I watch it.
I feel nervous. I am questioning my eyes but Nola jumps in front of the first thing I took out, telling me to grab it too. What is happening? How can my cat communicate with me, so clearly? Nola, did you secretly study human? I touch the spiral device, and it disappears too. But this time, I see how it happened. The item folds into itself, shrinking into a dot of light which goes into my palm. Is it inside of me? How can I get it out?
Maybe this is what my Leonard meant by something that will help me. I touch the jewelry and it disappears too. I try the pouches of lirat, but they stay on the ground. I pick them up and even toss the maround, but nothing happens. I figure that only the items my father wants me to store can be wrapped.
I look at the box and touch it as well. The large thing breaks down into beams of light and vanishes into my palms.
"Huh... Nola. Sweetie, come, I think I found a nice spot for you." I say to my cat with a wicked smile. She runs away as I chase he back to the house.
I am still confused about what to do. Why do I need to go to the capital? How did cloak shrink? And what's all the stuff in the box? What's the purpose of all of this? Even though I trust my father, he always kept his personal life to himself. Never showing me his magic when he's supposed to be a master of masters. Is it because of me? The complete opposite. A magicless daughter. Was ashamed? Did he worry for my feelings. I don't know.
Why did he even live here? At the edges of the kingfom of the sun, where the light of our king barely reaches when Leonard once lived under the same roof.
I have many questions forming in my mind, but I have already made up my mind. I am going to Intipa, the capital, where the sun king lives. I don't know if I can cross the borders, but this money should help me. I want to fulfill my father's last wishes.
Me and cat are in our home. It's cold but I still feel warmth. After hearing his voice. The things he left me. As much as confused I am right now, I feel good. I am not alone. Of course, how can I feel lonely when this cat is shamelessly stretching on her luxurious bed that I made for her from scratch. She lives like a queen in this remote place. She looks at me. Her eyes are wide and gentle. We stare at each other, and I go to her and stroke her gently. She put her head on my lap and begins to meow softly. I can feel her purrs vibrating through my body. She falls asleep and I stay with her. My only family who I sleep with every night.
I don't know how long it has been since I shut off my eyes, but I see the sun is setting. I can only hear the insects chirping. Nola is still asleep on me. I carefully move her and get up, heading to the window. I feel a sharp pain in my chest with every step I took. I realize why when I see what is happening in the distance, towards the village. Black smoke. Flames. The sun still bright, but the smoke is thick enough to bring darkness sooner.
A loud bang breaks the silence. I jump in shock.
"What!? What is going?"
I turn to Nola and yell at her to wake up. But she is sound asleep. I run to her and shake her agressively, but she does not react. At all.
