Arms across their chest in an open seat beside Edward. Once again back to seemingly thinking while that same tattoo moved and slivered on their body. He really couldn’t stop staring at it when it was in his view.
“You lack the obsession I’m used to for someone who misses a woman,” they said, “Not a lot of women’s clothing just hanging around, in fact it just seems like enough for a guest to wear if their original clothing.”
“...Are you going to--”
“Seriously what’s so special about this girl that you’re holding a flame for her for a year.” she interrupted him. Clearly annoyed and frustrated. The postering from earlier just that.
It seemed just the longer that he was in front of this person the more they were able to get to know how they acted.
Seeming calm headed but lacking tact to keep it going for too long. Always going back to an air of nonchalance but still in a voice that had the soothing sound of the ocean as they talked.
“I’m sorry, could you explain what is going on,” Edward said finally. He would have had a headache already if this was anyone else.
He could see her mulling it over.
“You made a wish so I’m here to grant it,” she said simply.
It seemed like they were just making the most simple … explanation but that just made Edward more confused.
“I didn’t make any kind of wish.”
“What do you mean? Weren’t you yearning to be with this girl again? Bay? I believe her name was?”
Edward just stared at her for a moment. That was correct. That indeed was something he had wanted. Something he wanted since the day she had died.
If he had to sit down and think about this more he was just going to depress himself. He let out a sigh. He could not argue with her.
“Ok, yes but …”
He was trying to find the words to figure out what to say to this. This was a Bay look alike and if the circumstances were different there was a possibility that he would have completely believed it was her.
If she had come to his door one night acting like Bay he would have completely believed she had come back from the dead.
But the way this had happened he was more in his right mind. He wasn’t desperate and … she had been used as some sort of fun talking point for Zeus.
The shock of everything literally just caused him to have a more rational side to everything so now he was her having a conversation with…
“You’re not her so how do I address you?”
There was the most perplexed look on their face as if never in their life had they been asked that. They leaned forward, really thinking it over. Their orange eyes scanned the floor as they pondered this decision.
Just allowing Edward to take the time to just… Continue to stare them down. Confirm whether or not this was indeed an exact copy of Bay … Though what would he know besides the surface of what he could see but… the memory was burned into his mind. Something he had promised himself not to forget was anything about the way she looked.
But that tattoo was not something she had. Not to his knowledge and there it was moving up their shoulder.
They leaned back.
“I guess I’d prefer it if you referred to me by he or they instead of she,” they started looking at him.
“Ok,” Edward said with a nod. He watched him smile at the simple acknowledgement of confirmation.
“As for names… I technically don’t have one and since I’d rather not be referred to by a dead woman’s name you can just call me B for now.”
“Just B?”
He nodded simply, “Yeah think of it as a placeholder name. I’ve never been allowed to name myself while I am in the living realm so this is the best I can come up with on short notice.”
They laughed a bit seemingly amused by the thought. He actually looked like he was enjoying himself at this moment.
“.... Never been allowed?”
“You just gonna parrot things I say. Listen here carefully Edward because I’m only going to explain this once,” B said, crossing his legs and leaning back in the chair.
Edward nodded slowly. It seemed as though he was about to get an exposition dump of information. Which he would very much like. This entire situation was a lot to take in… The day hasn’t even ended yet and he hasn’t even had dinner yet.
Maybe he should have suggested they waited.
“I am a wish granter,” he said simply.
“That’s it?”
“Yeah, I mean I did say that earlier… It’s like uh… if you yearn for someone enough and wish to fulfill some dream with them or you have of them then we appear as said loved on,” he explained.
“What if someone yearns for a celebrity,”
B shrugged.
“I think the line is you have to have a personal connection to the person. Like a family member, lover, or friend,” he said casually.
It was weird watching someone talk about something so outlandish in a casual fashion. Not only that but it also seemed like he didn’t have much of an idea of how his existence worked either.
“It’s really better if you don’t think about it too much you know? We should just work on figuring out what will make you feel a bit more at peace about Bay’s death, yeah?”
Edward was silent. More at peace was such a nice way of putting it.
“Yeah?”
“Listen I’ve dealt with unrequited loves many times so maybe--”
“.... We weren’t?”
“You… weren’t?”
B looked confused and leaned forward. They looked like they were going through something in their head.
“Maybe…. I used the wrong word?” they mumbled, “but I don’t know what she was thinking…. I’m just going off what I know about you… it wasn't like you made a vocal wish… then again even if you did that wouldn’t make me appear with you… the rules of this thing are so vague… ”
“What are you--”
“Well we’ll figure it out we got time don’t we?”
He had cut Edward off… He seemed to have a habit of doing that now that he was so comfortable with him.
“Yeah… I guess?”
“Don’t guess the answer is yes. You don’t really have a choice and since we’re being open with each other you’re gonna have to talk more about Bay at some point or whatever,” he said, getting up and going back to his original seat across from him.
“But first we should eat right? You had something good made, yeah?”
“Uh yeah I’ll notify the chef,” Edward said, pulling out his phone and sending a message.
He had a feeling he would be having a conversation with him when he came in but this… was so much so he was glad no one was listening in.
Maybe he was taking this too well? This was a weird story. Weird thing to say to someone but it was clear… or at least it didn’t seem like B had any reason to lie to him.
He had nothing to gain acting quiet and crazy only to drop that and be so casual with him.
There was no fear of death for being in the home of someone of his standing and he clearly knew things about him that he has yet to reveal.
For what reason it was only a guess Edward could make based on what he’s seen so far.
Not to mention that moving tattoo. The one that twisted, moved, and bloomed on its own. Nothing did that in life… He had no choice but to believe him.
As the food came out he watched B’s eyes sparkle with excitement at the food. Edward just ignored the looks he was getting from his servants about … well the hair on the floor and just waved at them to clean it.
Today was just so much. Too much. So much had happened. That was just a constant thought that continued to go through his head as he watched the… person? In front of him just go into the food he had prepared.
Eating it happily. Must have been good. Wish he could have felt like eating. Lost his appetite trying to figure out what was going on.
“You should eat.”
Edward stared at B as if he had grown a head. The other stopped and raised an eyebrow at him.
“Did I say something wrong?”
“No you didn’t… you’re right I should.”
Edward paused for a moment before going to eat as well.
“This is going to take some getting use too, huh?”
Edward stopped mid bite and looked B in the eyes. His orange ones meeting his green. There was a smile on his face. He seemed a bit content at the moment, possibly from being fed… possibly from not having to pretend to be someone he wasn’t.
Honestly, Edward didn’t know but… they were indeed stuck with each other and… this would take some getting used to.
“Yeah… it is.”
