The Warlock's Wrath

Chapter Two (A)

Chapter Two (A)

Nov 19, 2023

Martha and Jo had all but forgotten about the book, or they chose to. Even with the book still sitting on the table where they had left it, they deliberately ignored it.
Nothing happened after the last horror show, which had shaken the girls the first day when Jo had tried to get rid of the book. Now, they just ignored it, making no effort even to get rid of it just in case they experienced a repeat of what had happened.
“Are you going clubbin' tonight?” Jo asked as she strode into the room with a towel wrapped around her head. “That guy, Kenny said he'll come pick me up in an hour.”
“I'll pass,” Martha waved her away. She lay on the bed reading one of her favourite Stephen King thriller. “I'm totally hooked to King tonight. Just can't drop this book for a second.”
Jo's eyes instantly darted to the old book where it lay on the table at the mention of the word ‘book'. She looked away and shrugged.
“Well, suit yourself,” she removed the towel and started brushing her hair. “I intend to enjoy every second of our stay in London.”
“Knock yourself out,” Martha replied without looking up. “Just don't let them slip something into your soda and have some real fun with you.”
Jo stopped for a moment, then continued brushing her hair. “Kenny doesn't seem like that kinda guy.”
“They never seem like that kinda guy, until it's too late,” Martha said with a sigh. “Just be careful that's all”
“I will.”
Kenny, a tall handsome boy of about seventeen, with parentage somewhere up in the House of Commons, arrived barely an hour later. He had come with two of his friends who were rather disappointed when Martha refused to go out with them.
They eventually left, leaving Martha to continue with her reading. She was so deeply engrossed with the book, she did not immediately notice the change in the room about thirty minutes after Jo and the boys had left.
The temperature in the room started dropping gradually, until it became so cold she could see mist coming from her nose when she took breaths.
Martha slowly dropped the book face-down on the bed and turned around to look at the old book on the table. She felt a strong urge to go to it, even though she tried to stop herself. The book seemed to glow a dull, blue light as it silently beckoned to her.
Martha slowly got up from the bed, against her resolve, and walked towards the table. The urge was so strong and she didn't even seem to notice any other thing but the book.
She opened it and recoiled like someone who had just been punched in the face. The strange writings on the first page jumped at her with meaning.
She understood every word, but could not understand how that was possible. The only language she knew and could read and write was English. She had been lousy in French and Spanish and just couldn't understand them, but she surprisingly seemed to understand the ancient language with such frightening clarity. She picked up the book and went to sit down on the sofa near the table.
The words swam out at her. She felt like someone was reading the words to her, talking in her head, and she seemed to understand everything.
The book started with talks of Heaven and Hell and of creation. Drawings she did not understand started making sense as she used them with great ease to understand the full meaning of the words she was reading.
The book talked about ancient rituals to manipulate the order of creation and the power that could be possessed by anyone who mastered the rituals and could manipulate all of creation.
It moved on to the formation of Hell detailing how and why it was created and of levels in Hell which even the keeper of Hell was not aware of. Drawings were used to illustrate the architecture of the place where condemned souls were to spend eternity and help her understand the design of Hell.
Martha studied the designs with great interest and, surprisingly, great understanding. She flew through the pages reading the ancient writings and taking in all the designs and drawings tracing all the cracks in the architecture of Hell. The urge was renewed as she turned each page of the book, her eyes devouring the words and drawings on each page as quickly as she could.
The book moved to a time many years after the sack of the first family from Eden, when the spirit of God had commissioned the writing of the book of creation. The task had been given to one of the Levites, with guidance from the spirit of God, to write what he was ministered to write in a language he could not understand. The language was believed to be of a celestial origin but of a form which not all residents of Heaven or Hell could interpret. It was the first language before God scattered all mankind at the land of Babel when he confused the language of man. A language only used in Heaven by the sons of God.
The book prophesied of a chosen one, who would have the ability among men to interpret and understand this writing. A chosen one, whose conception would be influenced by forces against creation itself, will emerge from the midst of men and, if wrongly influenced, could bring about the end of creation.
Martha stopped reading as she got to that point. She seemed to overcome the firm grip of the book, just for a moment, as she reflected on the meaning of what she had just read. She was able to read and understand the book and the realization frightened her, and for an instant, she felt the cold around her. Then, the book took control of her again and she continued reading the book.
No exact date was written for the conception of the chosen one, but the book explained that forces against Heaven and Hell would conspire to get to the chosen one the moment he or she had been identified, and would use her abilities for their own end, which would not be to the good of the order of creation.
The book diverted to talk about another book, one written in a similar language, which has all the secrets surrounding creation. A book that details the creation of God himself. A book which details how God got the ability to create Heaven, earth and Hell. A book which the order of creation sanctioned to be written by yet another Levite, who did not understand what he was writing, but was guided by the Spirit of God, just like the writer of the book she was reading. The book of creation was written in a language which was more common among the Heavenly hosts and some fallen angels also possessed the ability to read it but, no human had the ability, not even the chosen one who could only read the book about the creation of Hell and the architecture of it. The book was cursed so that it could not be found using any power on earth or in Heaven or Hell. It was resistant to manipulations of any power in creation, just like the book that detailed the architecture of Hell.
The book of creation was handed to King Solomon, son of David, and the anointed king of the people of Israel, for safekeeping. Upon his death, it was to be handed to the chief priest who would keep it safe within the Ark of the Covenant, which was kept in the temple of God. The power of God, which was ever present in the Ark, would keep the book safe from those who would want the book for their own ends.
A small page was pinned to the spot she was reading. The page seemed newer than the others, but written in the same language, detailing the loss of the Ark of God, along with its contents which included the book of creation.
She turned to the next page where the book delved into the current residents of Hell. Those who would not face judgment and would be cast into the hottest parts of Hell the moment they ceased to exist on earth. Leading the list was a class of warlocks marked as a highbred version of Nephilims. They were warlocks who had merged their souls and bodies with the vilest of demons and were more demon than human. Some were off springs of demons and fallen angels. They were the people who would seek for the books over the centuries to find the secrets hidden within them and overturn everything ever created.
These Nephilims, while on earth, possessed powers to thwart the powers of the King of Darkness, who was under orders by God to address the issue of the Nephilims, as they posed a grave threat to all of creation. With their powers, the Nephilims could outsmart Lucifer for a while, but he would eventually catch up with them, in some cases with the aid of the Hosts of Heaven, and when the earthly cocoons or bodies of these Nephilims were destroyed, their souls would lack the power to withstand Lucifer, and he would cast them into Hell without the option of judgment. There they would remain until judgment, when all the other prospective residents of Hell not ranking in vileness as the Nephilims had been judged and sentenced to Hell to join the early arrivals.
The book however stated that Nephilims could be sprung from Hell, but that could only be done by the chosen one, who possessed the ability to find the cracks in Hell, through which the Nephilims could be guided to slip through and returned back to earth, into his earthly cocoon. It had never happened since the creation of Hell, but it was a possibility for which reason the book must be entrusted to an elite society whose sole objective in life was to ensure the safety of the book.
Another page was pinned to the page which like the other one she had seen earlier, was newer than the rest of the book, but written in the same language as the rest. This page detailed the formation of the elite society made up of men handpicked by Abnar, the commander of the army of Israel under King David, and kept in readiness to assume protection of the book. The elite society of dedicated soldiers had a temple built under the desert sands with the help of Egyptian builders, who were then the greatest builders in the world, and even when Israel fell to the nations who would destroy and scatter them, the society remained hidden, their needs provided through sources as dedicated to the task at hand as the men who bore the responsibility.
Young men of Jewish lineage were chosen and trained at a yearly interval to replace those who were already guarding the book, and there was no shortage of guardians over the centuries for the book.
The page however explained that around the turn of the 16th century, there was a theft in the underground temple by one of the new recruits. To what end, nobody could tell, but he made away with the book. Pursuit after him by the society found him days later in a tavern in Jerusalem - dead. He looked like one who had seen something which scared him so much that he died of it, as there were no physical injuries on his body or poison in his system to show otherwise. Money was not found on him either to tell whether there had been financial enticements which had made him carry out the act. The look of raw terror on his face as his eyes seemed about to jump out from his skull told tales of how he met his end. The chief priest had declared that the young man must have been possessed by dark forces to get the book.
The society had remained, since then, in secret, searching for the book, but there was no proof that they had located it.
“Who made all these additions then?” Martha wondered. “If nobody had found the book, then who knew about all this and pinned these pages?”
The book stared back at her in silence, offering no answer to her questions. The words still beckoned onto her and she continued reading.
The book detailed the names of many warlocks condemned to Hell before and during the reign of King Solomon along with their nationality, most of which were written in old languages, but somehow, Martha seemed to know where these warlocks came from and could put a current location to those old names.
Most of those men and women had tried to get the book of creation when it had been handed over to King Solomon of Israel. The matter had not been made public, nor were there records in any scroll or tablet about the secret attacks against King Solomon by forces militating against the order of creation. The king had a specially selected group of warriors who ensured the safety of himself and the book, and only these men and the high priest knew what the book was about.
Attacks were also carried out to get the book of Hell by these Nephilims, probably to free those who were already condemned and build an army strong enough to hold back Lucifer and even the hosts of Heaven when they get the book of creation.
The book talked about some rituals to be performed which would open the reader to have a greater insight of Hell and be able to manipulate the routes within it, through which even the guardian of Hell could not find, nor know about their existence.
