Wade didn't like doing extracurricular activities that didn't include writing, but lately Gavin always managed to drag him along on his outings. Normally Wade would have flatly refused, but now it was different. They had become a group, and that group included Kyle.
That evening Wade had let himself be persuaded to go to the cinema. He didn't even like movies, but he couldn't say no when he heard Kyle's name.
Wade had been careful not to sit next to Kyle, to avoid distracting himself. Of course, he had failed miserably. Even though there was Bryan separating them, and a movie playing on the screen, Wade found it much more interesting staring at Kyle out of the corner of his eye. Despite the faint light coming from the screen, he could perfectly see his hands marked by calluses and small scratches, probably caused by the strings.
He just couldn't explain that strange and sudden attraction to him. Yet, his eyes continued to insistently seek him. Perhaps his interest was due to the fact that Kyle, unlike him, was not hiding. He performed in public, sang at the top of his lungs in front of the crowd, while Wade wrote in the shadows. He had rarely had anyone read his stories, or his poems.
Yes, that must have been what fascinated him so much about Kyle.
He was a braver and better artist than him, and perhaps Wade envied him. This is why he continued to intrigue him.
