Still half asleep, Gavin arrived in the science class. He took a seat next to Wade as usual. «Morning.» he said.

Wade couldn't answer him due to a yawn.

«Haven't slept much?» Gavin joked.

Wade glared at him. «Who do you think is to blame?»

«Come on, can't you just admit you had fun?»

Wade scoffed. «The film was not to my liking.»

Gavin rested his head on his shoulder. «But the company does, right?»

Wade pushed him away. «Be quiet, class will start soon.»

«Whatever. But you know you can't lie to me, I know you too well.»

Wade ignored him and turned away. Just then Kyle entered the classroom. He waved to them, then took the seat to Wade's right.

It was the beginning of the end.

How could Wade concentrate on the lesson when words kept crowding his mind. He could compose an entire book of poems dedicated to Kyle, with all the thoughts that came to his mind. Even his freckles were inspiring to him.

Gavin pinched his arm, leading him back into the classroom. «Earth calls Wade.» he whispered. «You’re drooling.»

«It’s not true.» Wade objected, still in a low voice.

«You think you can lie to me. We've known each other since– »

«What's this noise?», the professor was staring at them with his arms crossed.

«It’s my fault, I’m sorry.» Kyle stated unexpectedly.

Wade looked at him impulsively. Why was he taking the blame for him?

«I was just asking for a pencil, sorry.», he reached out to Wade, who was looking at him in confusion. «Wade.» he whispered between his teeth.

«Yes. Right. Here.», Wade quickly handed his pencil to Kyle, to put an end to that moment, which was only causing him embarrassment.

The lesson resumed.

Gavin covered his mouth with his hand to stifle laughter. Wade glared at him and then elbowed him in the arm.

Wade forced himself, until the end of class, not to look to his right. Maintaining concentration was no easy feat, yet he had to do it.

When the bell rang, Kyle had to call him several times for him to finally turn around. «I thought you had gone deaf.» he joked. «Here.», he handed the pencil back to him.

Wade thanked him. «It's all Gavin's fault, he keeps talking to me instead of listening to the professor.»

«Keep telling yourself I'm the cause of your distraction.» Gavin interjected, putting his backpack on his shoulder. He leaned in to whisper in Wade's ear: «I’ll leave you some privacy.», then he said goodbye to them and left to head to his next lesson.

«You two are truly like cat and dog.» said Kyle laughing.

In a split second, Wade could write – in his head – an entire poem, just for that smile.

«Are you alright? Did I say something wrong?» Kyle asked.

Wade shook his head. «No, it is the truth. We have different characters and, sometimes, I struggle to him. But deep down he’s a very good friend.»

Richard and Bryan appeared at the door.

«Speaking of friends, yours are waiting for you.», Wade – with a nod – pointed out the door.

Kyle hurried to get his things. «See you.»

«See you.»
