Ch. 6 - Traveler from the Other Side II

Ch. 6 - Traveler from the Other Side II

Nov 25, 2023

Mr. Gardi patted Yogi's shoulder and then brought up a panel in front of them.

“It does sound like a suicidal act, but do you know about this? You may be old, but you usually see systems like this in RPG games, right?” With one eyebrow raised, Mr. Gardi asked with a calm expression.

“RPGs? W-w-wait a minute... that's right! Why didn't I even realize there was something like this?”

When Yogi realized the meaning of Mr. Gardi's words. His mind was immediately filled with flashbacks of when he was playing an RPG-themed game.

After confirming this and fiddling with the panel, Yogi was sure that Mr. Gardi's proposal still had the possibility of success.

"What level are you now?"

"Levels? Oh! "You mean the numbers in the left corner of this panel?"

Yogi nodded.

"One... does that mean you are level one?"

"Correct. After defeating that group of monsters, why didn't you level up?"

"You're not too sure of yourself, but you feel that something strange entered your body after defeating them."

This also raised a big question mark in Yogi's head. In any game there must be experience points called Experience (Exp), but Mr. Gardi is still at level one, which indicates that there is no connection between the panel system and the games in the game system.

“Strange... maybe the system itself is different”

"Different? Can you please explain to me?"

Yogi took a breath, then let it out slowly.

“In short, the panel system in the game and the current panel are different. For example, you managed to level the monsters.”

Yogi pointed at several scattered bones, "You should have leveled up because you got experience points, but strangely, you didn't level up. That means you need to level up using a unique system," he continued while maintaining a calm expression.

“Hmm... makes sense. So it's like a points system at school, huh?”

"More or less. The more we learn and get good rankings, the results will definitely increase in class. So if you think about it again, there is still a little hope in your previous proposal if your level is high."

"It's true, but you also heard that we can obtain free weapons by accessing the exclamation mark menu on the panel."

"Maybe that's a special privilege we get as new players."

Damn, why didn't I know this information? I should have been able to get that weapon earlier. Luckily Mr. Gardi was there to tell me, thought Yogi.

While conversing, they debated the most effective means of staying alive. A middle-aged man in a unique suit suddenly approached Adis, who was still lying down.

Dress like a traveler in ancient times. Robes, a belt with several small bags, simple clothes, trousers complete with worn leather shoes and his trademark hat indicate that this man is not from the world of Adis—Earth.

Moreover, his eyes are glazed and have emerald green irises. Those eyes would amaze anyone who saw them.

“Hey, hey... young man. Wake up, wake up. Fast! Do you want to become the food of those holo knights?”

However, because Randolf didn't get any reaction. He immediately picked up Adis and then carried him to a safe place.

Not long after, he managed to find a place underground that was far from monsters. Apart from that, he also immediately made a campfire, and placed all his supplies next to Adis, who was still unconscious.

Randolf took a bag of water from the inside pocket of his robe and then poured a little on Adis's head.

“W-w-whuoaa!! H-h-help!—”

Adis, who was unconscious, immediately woke up like a dead person. His face was hysterical, and he was trying to reach for something that wasn't there with both hands.

"Calm down, young man. Now that you are safe, you have nothing to fear anymore."

"C-calm down... scared?...." Adis, who was panting and sweating coldly, was now looking around him with tense eyes. However, after Randolf tried to calm him down with a warm tone, Adis's condition slowly began to improve, even though the cold sweat all over his body was still flowing.

“I have taken you to a safer place. Can I know the name of my savior?”

“S... savior?”

Randolf closed his eyes for a moment. He should have known very well that Adis' condition was still in turmoil, but he asked for a name without considering the mentality of the young man who had saved him.

"Sorry, maybe you should rest your mind first. Take this. This potion can at least speed up your mental recovery process.”

The eccentrically dressed man handed over a purplish green potion. The potion is in a cylindrical glass tube the size of two little fingers.

“W-what is this? And who are you?”

“Drink. This will make you better.”

So far, Adis has experienced many scary things. Moreover, now there is a strange man in "extraordinary" clothes offering something strange to him.

At first, Adis wanted to take the potion, but he immediately withdrew because of his fear of strangers. The young man, who was now shivering with anxiety now looked down and looked at Randolf with a worried look.

“Don't worry... I'll put it down here. However, I warn you first. If you don't want to die from the Defiance's corrosive slime, you'd better take that potion before it's too late.”

Randolf placed the potion on the ground, then he returned to face the campfire.

“D-dead? But I have defeated that monster!”

“That may be true, but the steam you inhale is nothing more than an invisible poison that will immediately damage every organ and tissue in your body. That's why I gave you the healing potion."

“B-b-but…”

“As a foreigner stranded in this place. How could I dare take advantage of the person who saved me?”

“You say it again... aghkk!—buhaks!”

Purple? Why is the blood coming out of my mouth purple? thought Adis.

“I warned you, didn't I?”

I don't know where this place is and the only clue I need comes from my savior. I can't just let him die, thoughtRandolf.

Adis also tried to grab the potion given by the eccentric man wearing a strange hat with a shaking right hand. Seeing Adis's sad condition, Randolf took the potion and then drank it into Adis' mouth.

Adis's body slowly emitted balls of yellow pseudo-light rays.

Red eyes and dark eye bags began to disappear slowly. His body, which was weak and almost convulsing, was now slowly recovering. All signs of poisoning and organ failure also improved.

Adis, who felt the effects of the potion, was immediately shocked and couldn't believe that a stranger would save his life. If he persisted and did not drink the potion, perhaps he would die in a miserable condition.

Meanwhile, Randolf started preparing raw meat from his backpack.

“Thank you, but who exactly are you?”

Randolf smiled wryly.

"I'm just a traveler from across the country who somehow came to this world through the network of the Mother's will."

“The network of will... The Mother? I don't understand."

Randolf laughed a little, “Of course you won't know. Because it is not of this world. Before I introduce myself, people know me as Randolf, a tracer of life on the Pollosur Continent," he said, then thrust a sharp wooden branch into the middle of the raw meat.

“Pollosur Continent? Ah! sorry, you can call me Adis. Everyone calls me by that name."

"Okay... Adis. Actually, there's still a lot I want to ask, but before that, give me a little time to grill this meat."

The eccentric man stuck the bottom of a wooden branch into the ground, then tilted it several degrees towards the campfire.

After that, Randolf opened the conversation from his meeting with The Tarnished People in the faculty building. He also told how he arrived at the faculty building and hid from the creature's attack.

Everything changed when Adis appeared and defeated The Tarnished People. Randolf also told how he brought Adis's limp body after defeating the monster to where they were now.

"Thank you, I don't know what to reply with"

"Easy young man. Besides, you also saved me indirectly. If you would please tell me about this place—no, perhaps more precisely where we are now, and what continent this is?”

Adis nodded then now it was his turn to tell everything. Starting from the earth and all the places he knows about to the topics of culture, technology, society, and also several other topics related to life.

Of course, all this continued because Randolf's high curiosity overwhelmed Adis himself and his constant intention to ask questions. In the end, Earth's explanation ended with their current situation.

“Hmm. So it's like that, huh? Interesting, really interesting! I didn't expect that cultural and technological developments in this world were so advanced. I'd better write this down before it's too late."

However, the sound of a breaking branch immediately broke Randolf's attention. It turned out that the meat Randolf was grilling was cooked, so he immediately drained it.

"You can eat the cooked meat first"

“B-but…”

“Calm down. The price of life is more expensive than you think. You saved me from that barbaric creature and, therefore, as a seeker of life, I must repay you."

“O-okay….”
