Training Space
Isabelle
These guys call this the Training Space. It's a spacious and virtually indestructible area for training… from the inside. I seemingly blew out a wall when I first got here from the outside and Isamu just yesterday got it fixed.
The training space, already activated, hums as the ground, walls and ceiling above us glow with a faint light.
Adam stands opposite me, stretching as we prepare for our sparring session.
I do the same, us both wearing similar training attire - red jogging bottoms and top that allows for easy movement. I can see Adam trying to avert his gaze as best he can.
He doesn’t do a good job of it. Whilst I’m not exactly great when it comes to the opposite sex, I’m not dumb enough not to be aware of my figure. Sara and Harm would tease me enough about it as is…
In the control room above us, on the opposite side of the wall, Ed can be seen bowled over in laughter and Isamu tries to stifle his amusement over the intercom at their embarrassed family member.
I finish stretching and get into my fighting stance.
"Alright, alright. Isamu, are you sure you want me to help train Adam? I'm a lot less forgiving than Ed when it comes to this."
Isamu replies over the intercom, his voice echoing through the training space.
<That's precisely why. Edward is a good teacher, but if I'm honest, I feel he goes a little easy on his brother.>
I look up to the control room, and Ed, having now recovered somewhat, shrugs passively, acknowledging the truth in Isamu's words.
Teasingly, I reply, "Ah, sibling love. Know the feeling, man, trust me."
Adam creates his katana.
"Try not to go TOO hard on me."
"I'll consider it. Maybe. Isamu, ready when you are."
<Haha. Okay. 3.2.1... GO!!>
At this, I quickly perform an un-incanted Air Fist into the air in front of me. Adam reacts to it too slow and the force of the punch sends him back several metres. Following up the punch by closing the distance whilst he is still reeling, energising my right hand in the process. As I get close, drawing my arm back, ready to strike in the corner of my eye, an almost blinding light forms.
It barrels towards me as I just about manage to smack it away. My hand tingles, but is unharmed, as I’m able to adjust my ability in time so as not to take much damage. Adam seemingly takes the opportunity to try and surprise me as he tries to punch me in the gut after having followed his attacks trajectory towards me.
Sadly for him, I catch it in my palm.
"Uh oh."
Adam looks up at me, pleadingly.
"Sorry?"
Raising an eyebrow, smirking, I retort, "Nice try. You might want to be careful. If this were a serious fight, I'd just crush your hand and be done with it. Pro tip? I really don't recommend-" I quickly lift him up by his clothing, catching him by surprise."-Getting close!"
Adjusting my strength down a touch, I throw him to the opposite side of the space, into the wall.
"Oof!"
Adam lands, upside down against the wall, before he slides down onto the floor, facing the ceiling.
"Noted. Ow." He mumbles as he slowly stands up, rubbing his head.
He's not bad, he just makes some silly mistakes. You'd think he'd just stay away from me given he has electricity as an element... Even I’d have issues dodging a barrage of that.
He fully stands up, dissipating his weapon, and raises his right hand, gathering lightning around it.
Finally, "Now you're talking, Adam. Let's do this."
"Don't blame me if I singe your clothes again."
"I'll manage. Show me what you got.” Challenging him, I walk forward, “Remember, stay the hell away from me, because I WILL be trying to get close."
Increasing my speed, the distance between us closes. Adam responds by firing bolts of lightning at me. It’s a challenging situation as I have to pre-emptively dodge where I think he’s going to shoot. Fortunately for me, he’s being somewhat predictable.
Due to my close proximity to him, I’m forced to block a large bolt of lightning with my left hand. Adam continuously pouring more and more energy into it in an attempt to wear me down.
"Not bad, but uh, Adam?" A confident smirk crawls along my lips.
Adam, seeing this, gulps hard as he answers. "Yes...?"
"You left yourself open!" Upon raising my free arm, Adams' attack stops as he realizes what’s coming next, and he hurriedly puts up his defences. Unfortunately for him, with the force I’m about to exert, his defences won’t help much.
Using the incantation this time, the technique is much stronger than previously as I feel it’s time he learns a lesson. He’s sent him back into the wall.
Weirdly, that winded him. I was trying to knock him out. Gotta say, I’m impressed. Looks like he managed to defend against most of that.
Looking up to the control room I let out a shrug. Ed seems to be having fun as he’s again bent over with laughter while Isamu speaks over the intercom.
<I think that will do for now. Good work you two.>
Adam, now sitting up, with his hand over his sore chest, begins to slouch.
"...All right, dad."
Walking closer, Adam’s demeanor is noticeably downcast.
Ah, right.
"You okay? I went a little hard on that one."
"Oh, yeah, no worries. My own damn fault anyway."
"You're pretty tough. I actually tried to knock you out.”
He coughs, "I could tell. All I could do is brace myself as best I could in such a short amount of time."
Colour me impressed. "Need a hand?"
I hold my hand out to him. Adam smiles, and grabs onto it, allowing me to pull him upwards.
"Thanks."
On the intercom, Isamu interjects.
<Good work you two. Get cleaned up. We'll get lunch, my treat.>
We both look up to the control room, and I smile at Isamu.
"Aww. Thanks Isamu."
I walk closer and notice Adam’s downcast expression.
Ah, right.
