The next day, on a Saturday, Kuro ran downstairs. "Bye, Mom and Dad! I'll be back by.."
Mom stopped him. "Hold up, Kuro. I want you hear a true story about your bloodline."
He groaned, flopping on the coup, "Come on -- I wanna continue my win streak. Some Trainers are meeting at the battlefield later. I wanna beat them to the punch."
"I know, I know. And don't flop on my couch!" Nahō said crossly, putting her hands on her hips. Her tone then changed. "Kuro...? You're a descendant of an Aura guardian. I forgot his name, but he's from the Garnet Kingdon, one of the three remaining Aura people settlements." She showed him a drawing of the guy he descended from.
Kuro looked in awe. She took out a shoebox and showed him a necklace with a garnet gem. "Here, Kuro. Now this isn't your ordinary necklace; it gives you powers."
"Like the power to fly?" he asked.
"Not yet, Kuro. You will receive other powers, like materializing your Aura into weapons, among others." Nahō put it around his neck. She continued, "Now, when great power comes great responsibity, Kuro. Don't go using this for stupid stuff, young man. Why? Because some normal people DETEST Aura people, painting them as witches."
Kuro looked at it. "Thanks, Mom."
Nahō went to her kitchen. 'Before you go, we're having omurice." She set a plate on the table. Kuro started noshing on it, his gem glinting in the light.
