The fireflies guided me through the night
With their tiny sparkling, shimmering light
It's like you're beside me; your soul bearing my might
And your voice echoing through my clear sight
Through the fields and forest the fireflies guided me
And when the moonlight shone, their sparks went out to flee
"Ah," I whispered, "It is You, my God, isn't it?
Has his soul reached you and asked you to guide my wit?"
As if to answer, the fireflies shined one more time
Before finally fleeing; through the skies they climbed
"Well then," I said, "Do take care of his soul for me"
I whispered, "Until my soul reaches You when they bury my body"
I continued walking on under the moonlight in wonder
I followed the rushing river, the wind combing through my hair
"It's so beautiful, isn't it? When the river traps light underwater?"
And in answer, a raven dropped a pebble to create a ripple right there
When I reached a thicket where the moonlight cannot shine through
The fireflies appeared again to guide me, as if they knew
It was too dark, like both life and light bid me adieu
And sent me back to when my soul was lost in the blue
But then a gust of wind blew through my face
With a song only my heart and soul can place
"I would know your voice when I hear it, my sirens
You've blessed me to hear it and to live to remember your horizons"
I recognized their chiming and twinkling laugh
Even when disguised in their enchanting songs and sounds
I know he asked them to guide me on his behalf
As their songs pulled me out of the thicket's bounds
I reached the lake and there a boat awaits my stride
As if asking, "Where to next, our willful bride?"
"I know you're not here to claim me, oh gentle Death," I said
"Take me to where life awaits me." And so we sailed on ahead
The moonlight shone ever so brightly as if smiling at me
As the winds brought forth voices singing happily
Finally, the end of the ride signaled the fireflies' final flight
"Always a pleasure bringing you back to light," the reaper said with delight
