The quick flickering of the lights outside the room signify it's time for medication. Nurse Agony makes his way down the hall, calling out “Get up, time for vitals” over and over again. The block you inhabit is called Wing Demented, where more severe patients stay. Niteroid is given to every patient in this wing, you are tired, you don't want to get up.
Nurse Agony knocks on your door, a tray with wiggling worms, pills? You look at them for a brief moment, are they worms or pills? You shake your head and sit up.
“Give me your arm sweetheart” Nurse Agony comments as he pushes the cart over. He takes your blood pressure and then gives you two shots, one that injects something into you and the other that draws your blood.
“Is it normal for hospitals to inject their patients?” You comment softly.
“Sweetheart this is wing isn't the hospital side, we're actually here to help, you wanna get better don't you?” Nurse Agony's grin was suddenly too wide for his face, you look away quickly.
“I suppose”
“Then take your pills and follow that gold road to slumber” the nurse states as he gives you your wiggling worms, no pills? No, worms, no pills. And your apple juice, which you gulp down after swallowing the pills.
Sleep is the only time you are free of the voices and the sights and the sounds of every night you wake up.
You can't tell the time because the windows are blacked out and there are no clocks.
Your head hits the pillow before the nurse leaves the room, sleep claiming you in it’s grip as the golden road of slumber opens up and you trek down it’s dangerous path into blissful unconsciousness.
