The first thing he sees when he opens the box is another envelope, this time much thicker then the other envelope from before. When he takes the envelope out, he realises the box is filled with packaging foam. Curiously, he takes the foam out, only to find a snow globe with a hand showing the 'peace' sign in it. And the 'snow' is sparkly. He sets the snow globe aside and opens the envelope. When he sees what's inside, he just lets the tears fall freely. He finds two old tickets for a concert of a local band he used to be a huge fan of back in his teenage years. He never had the opportunity to go to one of their concerts before they disbanded. They managed one hit on the local radio and then dissapeared as if they never existed. Marco remembers how frustrated he was when that happened because he had been a fan long before their one hit that helped them fill concert halls for a while. One of the reasons he was such a big fan was because the drummer was openly queer - not openly enough for the whole word to know, but every fan definitely did as it was not a secret. That paired with him being a very cute blond-haired young man made him Marco's favorite member. There was also a picture card of the band members with all of their signatures. It must have been hard for his sister to get all that and he never even got to appreciate or use the gift. Even if she had sent it to the address on the package, he had moved to that address long after the concert had gone by. He was homeless for a while back then and is pretty sure the concert would have been during that time. There was no way for his sister to give him the gift on time as she had no idea where he was back then. But that wasn't all that the envelope held. There was money in it, with a note. 'This is the same amount of money I had spend for the tickets. I added this later and hope you can use it to do something good for yourself'.
There are no words for how desperately he wished that gift had made its way to him back when he was a teenager. He wonders why his sister never send it.
Denis holds him as he cries and draws soothing circles on his back, the fact that they have company that Marco was still scared of might secretly be homophobic almost forgotten.
Yujah watches the two men - their expressions, gestures, interactions... their behaviour towards each other that seems to be filled with so much love and compassion for each other. Everything about it tells him: these people are in love. Two men who love each other - a slightly foreign, but in no way displeasing sight for the teen. And yet, his heart aches as he watches. 'Don't think about it', he tells himself. Thankfully, Ben makes his presence known by practically barging into the room. Marco flinches as he and Denis look up with wide eyes as Marco puts some distance between them again. "Sorry to disturb you.", the boy in his late teens says, before turning to Yujah. "Don't you want to change out of that? That suit looks pretty uncomfortable. You have stuff in Lia's room, right?" As Ben says that Yujah realises that Ben has already changed into his usual jeans and shirt style. The younger teen hesitates for a moment and looks at his uncle's crying face. "I'll keep them company for you.", Ben adds then, making Yujah nod and get up. "Alright, I'll be right back", he says. Ben sits down where Yujah sat before. "Hi, I'm Ben. Guiliana's step-brother, aka Bianca's step-son. Nice to meet you.", he says, holding his hand out for the two men to shake. Denis shakes Ben's hand first and gives him a friendly smile while introducing himself. Meanwhile Marco is trying to swat away the rest of his tears. "I'm sorry.", the man says as he shakes the boy's hand. Ben stands up abruptly and walks up to one of the cupboard, coming back with a box of tissues he places in front of the crying man. "Here. The day is quite emotional, so don't feel sorry. A lot of us have cried today.", the boy adds, although a little awkwardly.
After the greetings, Ben gets down to business. He crosses his arms before his chest and starts: "So... I'm sorry if this is awkward timing or whatever, but we need to talk about a few things. First of all, I'm doing this instead of Jax. I talked to him earlier, but he seems to have no intention of talking to you guys today and since Yujah is practically my brother as well at this point, I'm gonna take over his part, aka the protective older brother role... I hope you don't mind." His tone as he says that is light and it is said with a small smile, but the look i his eyes is serious. Marco and Denis look at each other and realise that the other seems equally confused, but turn around to nod at Ben, wondering what the boy has to say. "Good, so... actually I only have one major question. What do you work as? How much do you work? How stable are you? ....can you take care of Yujah and Jonah? Because let's be real - Jaxon won't live with you for long, I tell you. He's going to move out once he can, somewhere close where he can still see his brothers whenever he wants to. But Yujah and Jonah will have to stay with you for years. If mom invited you and Yujah sits down with you like this by himself, you are probably nice people, but can you provide for them? Because being subjectively nice at the beginning isn't enough. I know Yujah is too nice to ask this and dad probably won't ask you further than asking what you do for a living over dinner - but I want to know more than that. I want to know if your jobs and careers are compatible with caring for these two. Call me an asshole if you want to, but I'll do everything to sabotage this with Jax if I don't think you're good enough." The men stare at him. Denis clears his throat. "Well, first of all... I don't think it makes you an asshole to want to know if we can take care of them. I can tell that you care for them a lot and therefore I hope - we both hope you'll approve of us. Right, love?", he says. "Of course... besides, we want to get along with the people close to them, if possible. I'll readily answer your questions."
"What questions?", Yujah asks as he appears in the doorway wearing loose sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. "Scoot over.", he says as he lightly taps Ben with his foot. Ben does as told and Yujah sits down next to him. "So, what questions?, Yujah repeats. "Nothing much. Just what they work as and stuff like that... since I know you won't ask that." The younger boy rolls his eyes. "They're literally here to get to know us, not to be interrogated." To his uncles, he says: "Sorry about him, I know what he can be like.", which makes Ben jokingly push the younger boy's shoulder, making Yujah frown at him. Marco smiles at the younger teen. "It's fine. We don't mind at all. I work as a barista at a small cafe in the city, have been working there for years and don't intend to change that... I work full-time at the moment, but if needed I'm sure my boss will let me change that - especially when it has to do with children. She loves children and so far, she has always made sure that our coworkers who have children have fitting work schedules." He had already talked the situation over with his boss, so he knows for a fact that he can go into part time work. Still. Although he hopes to look calm on the outside, he feels incredibly nervous. He knows they have already been evaluated by a social worker and their finances and situation are fine, but that does not mean that he is not nervous to hear the opinion and possible judgement of others.
Ben nods and Yujah can see that he already approves of it, even if he pretends to be stoic and strict in his demeanour. Denis is next to speak and Marco rubs his sweaty hands on his pants as his lover talks. "It's a little more complicated for me... honestly, you might not approve of my work. But I assure you, that my work will not impact my ability to take care of kids or have a family life." Now, Yujah's interest is piqued. "What do you work as?", he asks. "I work as a photographer and cameraman", Yujah stiffens as he hears that and if he didn't get thrown off by the next bit, he might have spiraled there and then. "In the porn industry.", the blond man adds.
It takes barely a second for Ben to start laughing. "No way.", he says. "No fucking way." When nobody starts to laugh with him, he recovers. "For real?", he asks, now trying to hide his amusement. "Yes, for real.", Denis says, clenching his fists. "That's lit, man. I wonder if I've ever seen something you've worked on?" Stunned, Denis unclenches his fists again as he answers: "I'm mostly involved in the production of gay porn, specifically porn for gay men - but I've worked on a lot of different types of porn. I say I'm a photographer and cameraman since that's what I started as, but I'm also involved in other parts of the production, as most of us don't strictly keep to one position or type of work. Therefore, you having seen something I worked on isn't impossible at all... although our company isn't the biggest out there, it's pretty well-established." Ben whistles. "Damn, that's cool. I'm straight though, so I guess that makes the chances of me knowing something you worked on a lot smaller." Denis shrugs. "Maybe, but it's not impossible." Yujah, meanwhile, keeps rolling his eyes at the older boy. "What? Don't you think it's cool? Maybe you've seen something he worked on before, too. Wouldn't that be awesome?" Yujah sighs. "I'm not really interested in porn...", he mutters, just loud enough for the rest to hear. "I forgot you're too young to watch porn anyway. Of course, children can't watch porn. You've probably never watched any." Ben says in a mocking tone while shaking his head. "I have, I just didn't really like it." Ben laughs. "Yeeaaah, right. Just admit it." Yujah leans back, using the couch behind them as a backrest. "You're right. I admit... to have watched porn with your sister. And I admit to the porn not being my main focus." Ben's smile ceases. "So that makes you shut up, after all.", Yujah says while laughing at the older boy's shocked expression. "You're joking, right?", Ben says. After a second of silence, he adds another: " ...right??" Yujah shrugs. "Why don't you ask her if you don't believe me?" Ben jumps up and sprints out of the room while shouting for his sister. Mission get Ben to stop trying to interrogate his uncles by getting him to leave the room: accomplished.
Meanwhile Denis is trying to hold in laughter, finding the whole interaction quite amusing. Marco's confused stare makes it even more difficult for him to hold it. "What just happened?" Marco asks, more to himelf then anyone else. All it does is making Denis let out a laugh, who then turns to Yujah. "I get it. Porn is not for everyone and you are still young. I'm kinda curious though, did you actually watch porn with his sister? Or was that just your way of getting him off your back?", the man asks with an amused smile on his face. "Well-", the boy starts, but he is interrupted by Bianca coming into the room. "Care to tell me why my son is pestering my daughter to tell him if she has watched porn with you?" Yujah would panic just looking at her standing there with her fists to her hips and looking at him with a straight face, but the tone of her voice makes it obvious that she is actually amused by the situation, so he just shrugs. "He was being annoying and I wanted him to shut up." A small smile graces the woman's lips. "Fair enough. Care to help me set the table, bambino? The others don't seem to be available right now...", she trails off and raises an eyebrow at Yujah. "Sure, mamma.", the boy says and walks out toward the kitchen - fast. Binanca chuckles, as she turns towards Marco and Denis. "This house is often pretty chaotic, I hope you don't mind and will join us for dinner, anyway.", she says with a gentle smile.
