Everyone in the room watched them with delight, except Luka and Mirko,
who gasped out of rage. How could she?! Luka broke the wine glass in his
hand by clenching it too hard. Mirko had to put his down on the table. Demyan
naucious and furious gazed around. Everybody's eyes were on them, even
the king's. Despite being disgusted he had to keep his composure, BUT!
This coppery aftertaste... blood? As he took his first breath... after
he froze. NO! Despite it being too weak, he knew this scent! It couldn't
be?! NO! NO! NO! His eyes lowered at Livia's hand, with which she still
held down Demyan's shirt. That familiar moonshaped Obsidian! He
couldn't sense it before because everybody has some kind of Obsidian
jewelry on them. Demyan's stomach dropped, and his heart felt like it
was pierced by a burning hot poker. His head began to spin and his
sight was slowly becoming hazy. What now?! He had to get her out of this
room and then smash her face in to get the most important
information... Did she kill Petrona? Demyan collected himself,
grabbed "gently" Livia by the hand with the ring, and complimented it.
She giggled but in a snarky way. He knew it! Demyan forced a smile and
asked her to go to the balcony with him. She wasn't expecting what was
coming for her. Livia thought she would be safe with all those nobles
around and the King not so far away. Demyan wrapped his arm around
her shoulders and glanced at Luka with Mirko. They understood. They were
ordered to follow them. At the balcony, Demyan confronted Livia about
the ring. She began to laugh maniacally. "Yes, I took it from HER!" She pulled out a small vial with some blood and opened it.
Petrona's scent was emitting strongly from it. Livia was watching how
Demyan was breaking down. He made a step back and needed to lean on the
railing. She smirked and chucked it down. Demyan clenched his chest. She
is lying! She must be! While this was happening, Mirko with Luka
were entering and closing the balcony behind them. Luka immediately was
losing it, but Mirko stopped him by grabbing Luka by his arm. Luka
looked behind and Mirko just shook his head. Mirko took out his
sword and slowly walked from behind at Livia. He hit her head with the
handle of it, making her unconscious. Nobody was catching her so she
fell hard on the floor. She didn't deserve any special treatment if she
really did what she was hinting. Mirko hid his sword grabbed Demyan
by his shirt and began to shake with him to bring him back to his
senses. Demyan regained his composure and looked down at Mirko. He was
already in tears, but he was the one who kept it together as much as
possible, for all of them. Demyan looked at unconscious Livia. "We should take her to the dungeon and interrogate her! I will take you and you Luka will carry her." Luka was annoyed. "If I will touch her, she will end up dead." Demyan sighed. "FINE, I will take that... thing." Mirko jumped on Luka's back and Demyan took with great disgust Livia into his arms. They
were sneaking around the castle until they reached the dungeon. An
unpredictable sight was awaiting them. Adrik was casually sitting at a
table across from unshackled Viridi. Demyan blew up of course and
dropped Livia. "What the hell does this mean?!" Adrik stood up with his hand stretched out so he would get in between Demyan and Viridi. "I will explain everything to you all, but what is this?!" Adrik pointed at unconscious Livia lying with her face on the floor. Demyan snapped at him. "What I do at my castle, is none of your business. And of course, I shouldn't confessing anything to a traitor!" Adrik rolled his eyes, so he just blurted it out for Demyan to start to listen to him. "Viridi helped Petrona, cross the border..." Demyan's
bewildered eyes darted to Viridi, who was glaring at him, and then back
to Adrik. Demyan fell to his knees grabbing his head. "So it's really TRUE?!" Luka began pacing around and Mirko couldn't hold it anymore and was sniffling and handing over the vial. Viridi jumped out of his seat, he could tell it was about HER! "What did you do to her? What happened?!" Adrik caught up, smelled the vial, and turned his head to the woman on the ground. "Does she have something to do... with it?! I... can... sense... Petrona from... her" Demyan kneeling and leaning with his arms on the floor just slightly nodded his head. Viridi ran up at Demyan and was about to hit him when Adrik intervened by grabbing his arm and lifting him up into the air. "Wait! Are you all sure Petrona is no more?! Did you see her body?!" T he boys stopped losing it and a small hope made them focus their eyes at Adrik. "We should question her and until we will have real proof, Petrona will be considered alive!" Demyan picked himself from the floor and coldly looked at Adrik. "How did you know, Viridi was involved somehow with Petrona?" Adrik put down and let go of Viridi. "For
a few days I was sensing Petrona, but I was thinking I was going crazy.
But yesterday when we met Viridi... Do you remember how he shouted...
"I shouldn't let her go"... that was when it clicked for me. I needed
more information, so I came to him and he told me everything..."
All the men who were present in the dungeon looked at the unconscious Livia.
A heartbreaking challenge awaits Demyan shortly after the Festival, which forces him to return to his home in the Waste Lands. He is back to his emotionless self obeying his father's orders. Sava surprises him with a political marriage, which he is opposed to, but can't do anything about it, yet. He doesn't know, who will seek him out in the very near future, with the help of the Goblin Prince.
