Part III
Curtains open again.
All assets from the house are removed, except for the edge of the house, where you can see the entrance door.
Sunny passes through the door while Rainn is waiting outside.
Sunny: See you soon, dad! (He waves his hand, turns away and the house assets hide out of the stage)
Rainn: You sure took a while.
Sunny: Don’t mention it. My dad had THE talk with me just now. Urgh… Anyways. He told me to take good care of you or you would go away and… Uh… Let’s get going…
Some streets assets passing by in front and behind them, from left to right of the stage, from the audience’s point of view. It may allude to a walk. Rainn and Sunny remain at the center of the stage.
Rainn: Lead the way, oh master! (Rainn makes a reverence)
Sunny: Don’t do that! I’m… I’m not your master!
Rainn: Hehe, I suppose so. It’s just, your sister… Uh… Misty?
Sunny: Yes, Misty.
Rainn: She was sure to ask me to treat you like a superior or something. I’m just your guest, at most.
Sunny stops for a moment recollecting himself before committing some mistake: Okay… Okay… It’s fine. You are my brother now and everything will be fine. Urgh… (Sunny presses his forehead with one hand) Don’t fall for her sweet talk. She’s just devious!
Rainn puts his index fingers out and puts his hands close to the top of his head, pretending they were horns: Moo?
Sunny can’t hold a good laugh: Br… Hahaha… Oh god… She’s going to kill you… Hahaha…
Rainn: Why is she like that?
Sunny: I have no idea. I don’t know why someone could be so… Uh… Cold. But anyway, she’s probably going to take my father's business one day. I could never.
Rainn: Why so?
Sunny: Don’t ask me! It’s just…
Rainn: He’s not home all the time…
Sunny: I would say so. Uh… Do you know my father very well or something?
Rainn: I believe so. He was always going to meet my mother for a few days here and there. And stayed to take care of me, so yeah, I’ve been seeing him since I was just a kid.
Sunny: Hah! I knew it! He has been escaping like that for ages! But from what I know, my sister and I are the only heirs we know so far. I bet we have another ‘sibling’ out there, that even he doesn’t know who they are!
Rainn: Is he that bad?
Sunny: ‘Bad’ probably would be too strong to define him. He’s not that bad as a father, he’s just… Urgh… Careless. I still remember him telling my mommy she was his one and only, and here you are, a person we should have known for way longer than a day!
Rainn: I’m sorry to bother you.
Sunny: Nah, don’t be. It was just too sudden, that’s all. Thinking now it would be interesting to have a brother to grow up with.
Rainn mentions his index fingers again.
Sunny: NO! Don’t you dare! Hahah… (Sunny holds another good laugh before putting himself together) And yes, she is that much devious.
Rainn: Do you have friends then?
Sunny: I… I guess I could call my classmates like that though…
Rainn: They are not exactly your best friends then…?
Sunny: Stop putting words in my mouth! Urgh… Yeah, they aren’t the type to invite me to their birthday parties or, if they do, it’s because my sister was invited as well. Well, she was invited and I was dragged along. I can’t stand her and her friends. They love gossiping. If the cousin of the baker of the back street gets sick, she knows!
Rainn: Oh. Do you think she (he mentions the index finger again) knows it?
Sunny expresses he wants to laugh, but still holds it: If she doesn’t know it today, she will know it tomorrow. Principally if one of her friends already had spotted us.
Rainn: I see…
Rainn remains quiet for a brief moment. He looks at Sunny, who doesn’t mention anything.
Rainn: So… uh… How is it to be living here?
Sunny: Wish I were living in the capital, it seems.
Rainn: Is it that bad here?
Sunny: I… I may not like it here, yes.
Rainn sounds sad: They don’t treat people like you so well…
Sunny gets mad: Like how? (Sunny stops) What are you trying to say?
Rainn: Uh… Dunno? You seem quite great to me until now and, well… How can they not treat you well if you are just this great?
Sunny blushes and looks away.
Sunny: Urgh… Gosh, stop flattering me! It’s annoying!
Rainn: Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to… (Rainn sounds sad and ashamed)
Sunny: Ah! C’mon! Okay! I’m sorry for shouting at you… Urgh… You seem to be the best thing that has ever happened to me. Are you happy now?
Rainn smiles: I feel the same. I really feel like I have been close to you for a lifetime already. It feels like you didn’t change a single bit from being that much great!
Sunny: Oh, c’mon… I give you a hand and you pull my leg?! Yeah, yeah… I… Yeah… I have no freaking idea how I know you are just the greatest person on Earth to me…
Rainn: Really? (He sounds emotional) Nobody has ever said something that nice to me…
Sunny: Me neither…
Rainn: Not even your mother?
Sunny: Oh god, my damned father didn’t tell you? (Rainn shakes his head negatively) Okay, okay, I tell you… My mother left us one day and that’s it. She couldn’t take it anymore. How my father is simply out there with someone else… probably your mother… and she left. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. My condolences about your mother. At least I hope she loved you differently than my mother did…
Rainn: It’s okay, and thank you. She did love me well, but work took the best of her.
Sunny: If you don’t mind me asking. How did she die?
Rainn: An accident in the factory where she was working. I think it was some gas leak. When they realized they were already out of breath and unconscious, it was too late.
Sunny: At least she was sleeping.
Rainn: I think so too…
They both get silent for a moment.
Sunny: Wait… Why do I have the impression you should be actually mad at me for saying it so casually?
Rainn laughs friendly: Hehe, I don’t know. I feel like I can trust you were sincere and really meant it. (He smiles openly)
Sunny blushes and looks away again.
Sunny: Oh, god, this is going to be a hell of a year…
Rainn: What do you mean?
Sunny: Dunno. You just… You just… Urgh… God… I just can’t and yet… I really hope you stay after we finish the school year…
Rainn: Oh, yeah, your father told me I would move to your school. How is it there?
Sunny: Well, not a cool mixed school, that is. There are only boys there and my sister's school isn’t that far from it. So, even if you think she wouldn’t know, she will.
Rainn: I see… and what about your friends? Do you think they would like me?
Sunny: Uh… Probably? They don’t seem to like me that much anyway. They are just…
Rainn: Too wild?
Sunny: Yeah, I could say that. They do love to make a mess and do some pranks. And… yeah, they are never called off for it.
Rainn: I can imagine. Uh… Do you like football?
Sunny: Uh… not at all? Sorry…
Rainn: It’s okay, I don’t mind. Just saying those wild classmates usually like to spend their energy playing something. Would you like to try it?
Sunny shakes his hands: Oh god, I would never. They always end up all dirty and sweaty and urgh…
Rainn: Too wild for you?
Sunny: I can’t deny it… I feel like they would probably love you if you won a match or two for them. I already made them lose one and they simply don’t trust me anymore.
Rainn: So they don’t work well as a team. That’s a problem.
Sunny: What do you mean?
Rainn: You know, there is no I in TEAM. If they didn’t back you up, if they didn’t help you get back at it, you can’t trust them at all. Their team is fated to lose every time!
Sunny: I guess you make sense… (Sunny thinks for a moment, but gives up on it) I don’t understand much why it is so… uh… wild, to play a silly game of so many men running after a ball. No offense.
Rainn: None was taken. I understand your point of view. I used to think like that. But then, when you realize how people can concentrate together, to cheer you up, just to focus on winning and defeat your adversary… It’s just… Too big for just a silly game! Your father once told me he used to play as a kid, so he kinda… Enjoys it from his childhood perspective?
Sunny: I’d… never thought about it this way.
Rainn: It’s okay. I sure wouldn’t mind seeing you cheering up for me when I’m about to kick the ball to the goal! (Rainn gets excited, punching the air above him) Rainn! Rainn! Rainn!
Sunny: Hehe, oh boy… I guess it will take more than just that to convince me to cheer up for you in any game. But keep trying, goal boy. Maybe you can actually make me like football one day…
Rainn: That’s a deal!
Sunny: Wait, what? I’m not promising anything!
Rainn: But, oh, to have you actually cheering up for me. I would actually offer that goal in your name!
Sunny: Oh god, how I ended up here…
Rainn: Are you lost by chance?
Sunny: Wait… (Sunny look around) I guess I really strayed out of the way a little. We should be by the pond by now.
Rainn: Is it bad? We can go back.
Sunny: Actually no, it’s a pretty nice place. It’s just…
The bridge asset enters the scene in front of them. Written on it can be seen in bigger letters “I love you”.
Sunny: This bridge is called the “Lovers’ Bridge”.
Rainn: Oh! Hah… I guess it was fated then.
Sunny: What do you mean?
Rainn: Dunno. (He shrugs) Maybe we are going to find love soon?
Sunny blushes: I… I don’t know what you are talking about! Don’t be silly!
Rainn gets closer. They exchange glances. Sunny ones mean “don’t you dare” and Rainn ones mean “pretty please”. Rainn gets so close he can feel Sunny’s breath.
Rainn: Your eyes…
Sunny tries to avoid his look: What’s wrong with them?
Rainn: They are so beautiful…
Sunny: Ah! C’mon (Sunny is losing it and panicking) Don’t be silly!
Rainn: I’m not.
Sunny heart stops for a moment. Two ladies are passing by (they can be just two shadows projected on the background moving from one side to the other.
Lady 1 complains: Youngsters these days.
Sunny finally panics and pulls Rainn away. Rainn feels ashamed.
Lady 2: I still can’t imagine why your daughter would be dating the cousin of the baker of the back street!
Lady 1: Me too! Oh, to think she’s just too young for that!
Lady 2: Young? Better do it now before she’s too old!
Lady 1: I don’t know why I invited you for a walk.
Lady 2: Me neither!
The two ladies get out of the scene.
Rainn: You okay? (He sounds sad) I… I didn’t mean to scare you like that.
Sunny can finally breathe again: I’m… I’m sorry… You… you are my brother. I should take care of you. That’s it. I’m your brother, and I’m taking care of you. Everything is fine. Nobody will think about it once they know you are my brother. Heh… That’s it…
Sunny rushes out of the scene.
Rainn: Sunny! Wait for me!
Rainn rushes after Sunny.
Lights fade out.
