I was also cautionary about gatherings, balls, and large parties for other reason as well. My 5th and 6th deaths were at such events. My 5th death, one I also chalk up to being a pointless, stupid death (I have a few, sadly) was because I had offended King Kenley, from the Elvin Kingdom of Flowers. I didn't like how he treated Aego, who was a Elvin friend of mine, and the King's nephew. He slapped Aego in front of me and I called him a sham king. The King was handling it pretty well, but his people we not. I remember hearing Aego shouting out, “No!” before I was skewered through the gut with a sword, twice. I have learned my lesson and have yet to offend another foreign kingdom... so far.
My 6th death was at my eighteen birthday party. I was outside, by myself, next to the fountain. I was playing with the water, trying to relax after having gotten away from the noise and commotion. I was soon followed after by Daniel Brown, who at this time was Count Brown. I was being cautionary, but polite to him as we spoke with one another. I remember spotting Braxton and smiling at him. Count Brown's eyes changed then. The honey color became a dark amber as his smiled disappeared. I took a step back away from him, startled by his sudden change. In this rerun, I hadn't known too much about him, and the way his attitude shifted was surprising.
“Why?” He had asked and he quickly stepped towards me. I had stepped back some more and stumbled, having hit the edge of the fountain. I flailed a little, trying to keep my balance, but it proved futile and I fell in with a splash. I sputtered, coming out of the water. I pushed my drenched locks out of my face and screamed when I saw that Count Brown's face was right in front of mine.
“Why!?” He roared at me, grabbing me by the neck. I fought back, slapping, clawing, using all my might to get him to break free. I even tried using magic, but I couldn't speak because of the grip he had. He shoved me under the water, holding me there. It was scary. I could see his enraged face through the water as my world slowly went dark. This was my first drowning death and my first death involving Count Brown.
When I came back for the start of my 7th rerun, I shouted to the heavens, “WHY!? WHY WHAT!? I am I suppose to know WHY if I don't even know why you are WHY-ING!!” This actually where I started to look into the Browns and discovered things I wish I never had and I drowned again because of him on my 41st death.
But! This is the reason why I forced myself to be able to do spells without having to chant them or speak them. Another lesson learned. Now because of these deaths, I stayed in the open and around people I knew. Very, very closely... I trailed along to the point it was almost obsessive. People in the past would talk about it, but were they ever stabbed and drowned? No! So they could stuff it!
After a few moments remembering my past I realized that Liam had been talking to me and I had ignored him the whole time. I apologized to him and he pressed his lips together, annoyed, but repeated his story anyway. He had Dale in his lap and Dale was cleaning his feathers when Liam told him to suddenly disappear. Dale did as he was told and faded away in a puff of green haze. Startled by the sudden demand, I opened my mouth to question Liam, but he shook his head quickly and pointed out the library window.
I squinted, trying to spot what he did and my eyes landed on the Count Brown of this time. My face twisted in displeasure at the mere sight of him and a clicked my tongue.
“What's he doing here?” Liam said in disgust with a face that mirrored my own. Exactly, Liam! What was he doing here for? We could clearly see that he was walking with the 1st head butler, Mr. Williams, to the back garden, but why was he here? My intuition was telling me to hide. Liam apparently had the same feeling as he stood up, grabbed a random book off the shelf and sat in a chair, telling me to quickly leave and that he would be bait.
I thanked him for his noble sacrifice and quickly, but sneakily left the library. While my intuition told me to run away and seek shelter elsewhere, my ever thinking brain wanted to know why he was here and we went outside into the woods by the back garden. I was tempted to ask Liam to let me borrow his bird, since mine would probably be spotted right away, but decided against it and hid behind a tree. I saw Father and Mother walking out with a maid who was pushing a tea cart. I inched a bit closer so that I could hear them but stopped mid crouch when I spotted something that I shouldn't have been seeing.
It was a tiny white cloud moving about by a bush. Occasionally it would turn gray before flicking with a small light, making a soft crackling noise. I know this cloud very well and was in the utmost shock to see it here. I wasn't supposed to meet it again until I was twelve, so what the heck was it doing here now?
Master... I gripped him tighter in my arms, slinking further down onto the ground, not caring if I got dirty.
How surprising. He responded. I looked down at him. He didn't sound surprised at all. My grip loosened a bit and I felt my heart tighten again, knowing he still wasn't going to tell me what he was doing. But you know what? I thought. I was going to get an answer today. He would probably just smile at me, but I wasn't going to have any of that. With that on my mind, I shuffled away from the baby looking cloud and effectively stepped on a twig, making a snapping noise. I froze, hoping it didn't disturb the adults or the cloud. I held my breath, waiting for a reaction from any of them. The adults seemed none the wiser, but the cloud stopped bobbing back and forth.
I heard a loud zap, felt the electric shock, and was sent fumbling to my rear. Master was able to put up a small barrier, so I didn't get hurt too bad, but my hair was now frizz and standing up. The cloud rushed at me, ready for a second attack and then stopped. It seemed to realize who I was because it turned a bright white and started zigzagging happily around my Einstein looking hair.
“M-Mallory...!” I heard my Father gasp and I had to sigh. If my twig snapping didn't alert them, the bright light and loud zapping noise certainly would. Father quickly got to me, climbing over some bushes and wrapped his arms around me. He glared up at the tiny cloud and called for Master,
“It's okay, it's okay!” I said quickly and reached out for It. It placed itself quite contently in my outstretched hands and hummed a little. Father picked me up, grabbed my stuffed horse, and glared at the puff ball in my hands. “This is.. Stormy!” I informed him. Stormy happily flickered a little at the mention of its name.
“Impressive! Your daughter is quite talented to be able to have such a familiar.” I heard Count Brown say. My father looked at him with a strained smile.
“I suppose to.” He turned to my Mother. “Emma dear, could you please take her inside?” He handed me over to her and she grunted a little at my weight. I insisted on walking, so she complied but held my hand instead.
“That's alright! I don't mind if she's here.” Count Brown kept his beady brown eyes on Stormy, clearly interested. Father handed Mother my toy, climbing over the bushes to get back to us.
“No.” Father said sternly. “My daughter needs to be check over to make sure she is alright.” Count Brown opened his mouth to argue, but my Father wasn't budging and Mother had already started to walk away with me. This was a bit rude of her, but what he going to do about it? He was a mere count and she was the Archduchess.
Mother took me into the family room, calling for a doctor along the way. She made me sit down on the couch and started to smooth out my hair. I caught her sending a warning look at Stormy who was still in my hands and, surprisingly, to Gerald, my plushie who she placed next to me.
It took only a few moments before the estates doctor hurried through the door with Liam close behind him. Liam was anxiously looking me over from afar as the doctor check me out. When it was determined that I was perfectly a-okay, the doctor left and Liam swiftly sat down next to me.
“This is your sisters new familiar, Stormy.” Mother informed him before I could, pointing at it.
“Oh, wow!” Liam gasped looking Stormy up and down and all around. Stormy wasn't your typical familiar, it came to be because it was granted a form by sheer force of willpower. I, to this day, have no idea where Stormy came from. But it repeatedly chose to be with me.
“Why Stormy for a name?” Liam asked reaching to pat the cloud. Normally this wasn't a good thing to do, but Stormy let him do as he pleased.
“It was thundering when I first saw it and then it zapped me.” All were true. Each and every...single... time...!
