Chapter 7 – Grasshopper
“---- In life ending is a new beginning ----“
2005 July 3rd, 11.50pm, good things, Pat Pong,
After a big long day of losing his supplies, meeting a witch, finding his supplies, meeting his flame, meeting an prostitute and helping setting a place on fire (Pastor’s club), Chin Hwa returned back to the establishment he owns. Since it was around night time it was crowded as usual. His workers or colleagues didn’t greet him as they did in the morning, showing how busy the night life is.
Hwa signaled Kerl to come over.
“Kerl, I’m feeling unwell, I’m going ahead. Please look after the night… can you do that for me, huh?”
“Sure boss… yeah, yeah, yeah, sure.”
Upon kerl’s insistence, Hwa headed back to his apartment through the same street he took morning. The street were illuminous, neon lights on sign boards flashing. The noise of music mixed from every era emitting from all corners of street. Some ladies waved signs wearing short skirts welcoming or catching customers for their establishments. Some people were sleeping on the road because they don’t own a house and some were because they were drunk. People were active and energetic even in the dead of the night.
Phew.
“I don’t have the energy to even look at what’s going on with people… I guess it will be the same old same lame thing… nothing new can be expected from them.”
Hwa reached his apartment complex and took out a cigarette and put it back on the pack like he remembered something, might be he remembered he don’t carry a lighter on him anymore.
“Change, huh?
Nothing changes with them… with anyone. Everyone and anyone stays the same as they were. But it is a paradox, how the entire community adapt to a change even though they haven’t changed personally…. They just ride along like a drifting shopping bag.
… As if the entire change thing is a lie.”
Hwa used the lift to go up and walked through passing his neighbor’s room.
“Hmm… they are not going at it today, huh? They might not be in the home.”
“Should I leave this stolen pairs of shoes, return it to her, huh? Hmm…. I guess I’ll keep it, it’s comfortable after all.”
Hwa removed his shirts and put it down as usual and laid on the bed wearing a shorts.
“Hmm… tomorrow is the laundry day. At least I should do the laundry… every clothes stink.”
Chin Hwa closed his eye to sleep -----
“Tomorrow is another day…”
“----- these wonderful, amazing people are all just like me, scums through and through. There is a saying to look for good in people… I try. I try. But all I see is myself in them….
….I still try to look for good in them. Good in myself. Can I be a good guy that way, huh? Ignoring everything that had happened and has to happen is the only possible way to find good in this world. After all isn’t ignorance a bliss.”
Sigh.
“A good sleep after tiring work is sure a best thing…”
“But, can I sleep well tonight?”
The End
