Hajnal had already searched through the entire castle before finally finding the prince. She couldn't speak to him yesterday and today, she was determined to tell him about her intentions of returning home. But as soon as she entered the room, the man welcomed her with an icy gaze. He apologised on her behalf to the men he was currently negotiating with and quickly stepped in front of her.
"I don't have time right now, please don't disturb us!"– he said while escorting her out –"There is no place for a woman here."
The fairy left confused. She had not expected such a reception, but it seemed like she had interrupted something very important.
When she returned to her room, she found a new pile of exquisite clothes and jewellery there. She had already told the prince she didn’t need such items, but it was in vain. The man kept sending her gifts every day. They were all beautiful and elaborate things, so she didn't actually mind them. She found human fashion fascinating and enjoyed wearing these long, heavily embroidered gowns decorated with precious stones. But apart from this, she had nothing to do, so she was left alone too long with her thoughts. The highlights of her days were when the prince visited her or asked her to take a walk with him. Apart from him, no one even dared to look her in the eye, not to mention talk to her.
In the evening, the prince invited her for dinner. His first words were an apology for his previous behaviour. But Hajnal simply dismissed him. She ended up waiting until the end of the dinner to tell him why she looked for him in the first place.
"I would like to return home."– she said finally.
The prince nearly choked on his wine. He coughed while looking up at her, then asked in a sad voice:
"You don't like being here? Or did I do something wrong? Was it because I had to send you outside today? It was a very important meeting. Please forgive me!"
"No, it has nothing to do with that."– she objected intensely –"I just don't want to bother you anymore!"
The man was visibly relieved after hearing her explanation.
"You are not bothering me. Moreover, I really enjoy your company."
Hajnal was surprised by this. She had no idea that they both liked each other.
"Would you like to stay here longer?"– the fairy suddenly couldn't think of an answer, so he continued –"Would you be my wife?"
She absolutely did not expect that. Her words were utterly cut off. The man saw her confusion and immediately started to explain himself, saying he did not expect an answer immediately.
Hajnal's head and whole body felt disturbed, and she laid down to rest, so agitated that she could not sleep. She was happy that the prince asked her to marry him, but hated herself because of that. She was still in mourning, but the prince was the only person who cared about her. He listened to her and comforted her with such devotion. She really came to like him. She sat in bed and continued sinking into her thoughts while looking out the window. The moon wasn't even half full, but still gave a bright light. Hajnal suspected her mother was watching her through it. So she was sure that the queen knew what had happened. If she did not send anybody to take her back, then that meant that she still didn't want to see her. Her fury could last for decades. She could actually wait out that time here. She wouldn't lack anything. She could have a loving and devoted husband. She could live off a human life here, then return home. How much she wished to do that in the past! But now she was tormented by doubt. However, when she thought about it, without Bíbor, home is not home anymore. There is no point in going back. She ended up falling asleep somewhere during her contemplation. The next day, she visited the prince and accepted his offer.
