Tears To You, My Dear

Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Dec 14, 2023

“So, here is a extra laptop they've given us for our trainees. Please don't lose it or damage it,” He handed me a laptop, “I do have your login information on my computer so give me a minute to pull it up,” He went behind his desk and typed away on his computer

I opened my laptop and powered it on. I was excited to be apart of something and being hands-on since the other law firms I went to wouldn't let us do anything beside sit beside the lawyers. Some of lawyers were willing to teach us the basics and run errands for them. But here, I'm in charge… well not really, but I had more responsibility.

“Here is your login and please make sure to remember it as you'll be held accountable,” He handed me a note

I logged into the laptop and looked back at him. “First, I want you to get accustomed to the software and where everything is located. As I'll be asking for multiple things at once so be prepared,”

I nodded my head and looked over the features of the laptop and where everything was located before starting the software. I entered my login and memorized which tab was important and what materials I needed to complete each request.

I looked up at him and noticed how concentrate he was and that he was wearing blue eyeliner. I unconsciously leaned closer and noticed it wass’t blue eyeliner but his lashes.

“Are you done looking?” I jumped, looking away

I got caught and I'm not proud of that. I cleared my throat before looking at him, “Sorry, I didn't mean to stare at you but your lashes are blue, I thought it was eyeliner,”

He unconsciousnesly touched his eyelashes, proving my thought and rubbed hiis fingers before examining them to find no blue color. “I didn't notice they were blue,” He shook his head before handing me a piece of paper, “Enough about that. I printed out a checklist of what I do every morning when I come to work and which cases are the most important and what I must need for each case,”

“It's very detailed,” I read over the list, “Thank you for giving me this. I'll be as helpful as I can. Just tell me what you want me to do and I'll try to get it done quickly,” I smiled at him

He stared at me before looking back at his computer, “Currently I have two cases opened at the moment and I’m primarily focusing on one of them due to the difficulty of finding information that can be crucial, so that’s where you come in and help me as I can only do so much in so little time,”

“Okay,” I shifted in my chair, “Should I stay right here or do you want me to head somewhere else?”

“No, your fine where you're at, I'll make sure to send in a request for a desk to be added,” He wrote on his notepad and twirled in his chair to reach the cabinet behind him, “Firstly, I hope you know how to operate a printer as I need this scanned into the system and sent to me and you,” He turned around in his chair and held out a bulky pack of paper

I grabbed it from him and looked at the end page, to notice it was multiple pages upon others. I looked at him, “Is the printer right out here?”

He looked taken back before standing up and walking towards the door, I followed after him, noticing the tips of his ears red and the back of his neck also red. His hair may be in a loose ponytail, but it looks so soft and shiny. I stopped clear in my steps when I almost bumped into his back and stepped to the side, hoping no one noticed.

“Here is the printer, it's close by my office, so you won't get lost unless something catches your attention,” He scrolled on the screen, “Every action that you need will be here, but I'll mostly need you to make copies or scanned them to me. To send them to me, you'll press this icon and type in my email. You can just type in nev and my email will automatically appear,”

I looked at the screen beside him and noticed there was another last name, neville. “But, there's another one with your last name,” I pointed out

“All you have to focus on is the first one, nothing else and you'll also send the scans to yourself as well,” He got out the screen and grabbed the paper from me, “You must place the paper facing up and make sure to indicate right here on the screen if its double sided,”

“I think I got it,” I smiled at him as I slowly pushed him away, “You can head back to your office and I'll get this sent to you and myself. But, thank you for showing me the way and teaching me. I appreciate it,”

He stared at me before nodding, “Just come get me if you face any problems,” He walked away and I focused on the printer

I fixed the paper, making sure it was even before fixing the options that it was double sided. I press the start button and kept my eye on it. I was thankful I didn't have to do it one by one as its time consuming and I would be here the entire day, double checking I didn't double print. Once all the papers were scanned and I made sure to count the original ones and double it by two since it was double sided to make sure on the screen, it was the same. I sent the documents to Neville and myself, shocked that I was in there already since it was barely the first day. After I made sure it sent, I exited out of anything, leaving it at the start screen and grabbed the paper before heading back to Neville's office. I knocked on the door and opened it once I got a approval. I walk to his desk and set the stack of paper on the desk.

“Did you receive the documents?” I asked as he scrolled on his computer

He started to click and type, making me feel anxious before he looked at me, “You did well. My other aides would make mistakes on these simple tasks,” He grabbed the stack of paper and placed it back in its place before placing another stack in front of me, “Here's another I need scanned, just know this is how it's going to be,”

“As long as I can be useful,” I smiled as I grabbed the stack of paper and walking out

                                                ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I sat down beside Ysennia, setting my tray on the table as it was lunch break. Neville had me running back and forth, but I was kinda glad because he trusted me and I didn't want to be sitting down the entire time, so it was win-win.

“How is he?” Ysennia asked, mixing her mashed potatoes

“He's fine and very informative,” I cut my beef

“Wow, you got the good trainer while I got a terrible one,”

“How? I thought your trainer was a great one,”

“Layla, she's a nervous one and I can tell it's gonna take a while for her to warm up to me, but I've already done that with you,” She grinned

I bumped her shoulder with mine, “Well aren't you nice. Even, remember Neville told us he only picked the educated lawyers for us, so we should be greatful that we got someone like them,”

“Well, you got the most educated, most refined, and most handsome lawyer, so I envy you. Even whats the tension between the both of you? I know you and him never met,”

I bit my lip as I swirled my sauce, “I.. ugh.. I lied to you, Ysennia. I have met him, but it was just two encounters, well one. Since the first time was at the party and when we went to the city. I didn't mean to lie to you, but I just felt embarrassed,” I covered my face

Ysennia didn't say anything and I peeked at her throught my opened fingers to notice her grinning, “Why do you look like that?” I lowered my hands down to my lap

“You really captured his attention and now he can't keep his eyes off you like right now,”

“Huh?” I looked at her confused and she grabbed my shoulders, turning me around in my chair and moved my head in a certain direction where I noticed Neville looking at us

“Aw, he looked away. But this is intriguing and I'm so happy for you, Layla. You're about to experince romance for the first time,”

I shook my head and turned back in my chair to face my tray, “There's no way I can expereience romance here,”

“Never say never, Layla. You will experience regardless of that law,” I froze as the law popped into my mind. We haven't been for a day and here we are trying to break the law

“We can never break that law, Ysennia. So, let's stop talking about this,” I stuffed my mouth with the food

“You won't break it if no one knows about it,” She smirked at me

I started to choke on my food and chug my water down, not understanding how she can be like that. But I do envy her confidence.
