A terrifying, post-apocalyptic landscape. The Volga city transformed into one vast heap of rubble. Scorched fragments of buildings and protruding remnants of steel structures from factory halls—this was the setting of the cruel and devastating war. Accompanying the deafening roar of gunfire, the howl of passing airplanes, and corpses scattered everywhere—soldiers' bodies lay in all directions.
He knew that to end it all, he had to kill someone of general rank. He had a feeling he would find him right here, in the vicinity of the Tractor Factory, or what was left of it. He was condemned to rely only on himself, as only he managed to penetrate so far behind the defensive line. For a moment, he even felt like he glimpsed him before his eyes. Maybe it was just an illusion? Or perhaps he had the intuition he displayed in previous victorious campaigns, which placed him at the top of the list of the best snipers of the Third Reich. Only one precise shot remained to seal his dominance.
Meanwhile, he crawled along a low wall when unexpectedly he saw something in its breach and froze in place. A few meters away, a Red Army officer had his back turned to him, urinating against the concrete wall, which might have served as a shelter. Unfortunately, he couldn't see his insignia, so he couldn't risk taking down the Russian with a single shot to the back. It was no problem for him at this distance, but what if it turned out to be someone of lower rank?
He unlocked the rifle, pressed the butt of the reliable Kar98k against his shoulder, and aimed for the head. He had to act swiftly before the Russian finished urinating and disappeared from his line of sight. He decided to wait until the moment the Russian finished and turned halfway, ensuring it was indeed the general he had been tracking for hours, and then deliver the final, deadly shot.
Perhaps only three seconds had passed when suddenly she stood before him. In a coat, laden with shopping bags.
- This isn't how we agreed - she said. - I've been waiting for you like an idiot!
- But darling, dont block the TV screen! I beg you! I might not get a second chance! - he whimpered like an abandoned puppy.
- If you don't turn off this stupid game right now, you really might not get a second chance!
