"That drug, it seems to have similar effects to that", said Silas in a low voice.
Marianne had thought about the same thing when she first heard the news, but of what use would that be to him? Back then he was adamant to make sure that nobody would hear anything about the experiments.
And there was one thing she was sure about, it was him who produced the new drug. Still it didn't make any sense, he couldn't profit from something like this, it would only cause the other families to grow suspicious of him and start their own experiments.
As she wanted to ask Silas about his thoughts on the circulation of the drug Lance stood up and started to talk.
"I think by now all of you have come to the realisation that the drug will become a major danger to our position. If we don't act soon it will get out of hand and so I gathered all of you here to propose a way to secure your position", he made a short pause to let what he said sink in.
"Thalis is ready to give all the heads of a district a more powerfull version of the drug to make sure that you'll be able to keep your subjects in line. In return he only asks a small favor to look out for a friend of his."
Once again a murmuring came loud, but this time it wasn't out of worry, instead it was out of excitement. The only people who stayed quite were Asterikas and Faden.
~I already expected that it was him who created the drug, but why on earth would he make a deal like that? And who could that friend he was talking about be? He doesn't have any friends other than me and Cesar. He put Cesar in prison for unknown reasons not too long ago, but there is no way he could escape on his own. So the only person he could be talking about would be me. I don't know what kind of game you're playing at Claude, but I'll make sure you regret it.~
Suddenly Silas pinched her and she looked up confused just to see Lance looking at her. He seemed rather interested in them. ~Did he say something while I wasn't paying attention?~ asked Marianne herself. As she was about to make a fool out of herself Faden came to help.
"It isn't fair to ask Asterikas a question like that, after all they're new here and don't know how everything works yet. Besides I think all of us need some time to think about the proposal you made, isn't that right?"
After hearing his words the others started to get nervous. None of them really thought about how useful this proposal would be for them. After all it's Thalis they were talking about, he was known for making others depend on him to use them like his pawns when he needed them.
Everybody in here was aware that Thalis would discard them if they didn't prove to be of use to him. Sure the proposal was very attractive but the consequences wouldn't be easy to deal with.
"If this is all you wanted you wanted to tell us I'll be taking my leave since I have other business to attend to", said Marianne calmly. They needed to go back soon because Jasmine would return in about an hour.
"I see, if that's the case it would be best to wrap up the meeting. The next meeting will be held in two weeks at this location, I expect all of you to have an answer for the proposal until then", said Lance as he stood up and left the room.´
After he left all the others started to follow his example. As Asterikas was about to leave they were held back by Faden.
"It's not a good idea to be absent minded while he is talking. You have already caught his eye, it'd be best to lay low."
"Thank you for your concern, but I don't have the time to worry about someone like him. Soon enough he'll be one of the many people kneeling in front of me."
"Don't get too cocky just because you rose quickly the past few months, he's not to be underestimated."
"There's no need to worry someone like him, he doesn't stand a chance against us", said Silas who was standing next to Marianne listening in on their conversation.
Faden looked at him strangely for a moment before bidding his goodbyes and leaving.
"Come on it's time to leave as well, I don't want to be questioned the moment we return."
As they went outside to the motorcycle Silas asked: "Before coming here you said we would be visiting someone next week. At first I thought it was another one of the meetings, but he just announced we'll be meeting again in two weeks, so who is the person you were talking about?"
"He is an old friend of mine, I'm sure you'll like him. Ah, before I forget it, could you buy me some things in the next few days for next week, we'll be needing them."
~I don't like where this is going.~
- I'm sure it'll be fun. -
~For you maybe, I don't like these kind of things.~
- It's not that bad and there's no need to worry, if you can't handle it I'll take over. -
He looked up in the sky with a tired look on his face.
~It's cloudy, looks like there'll be a storm soon.~
