I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring. Looking over, I see that it is only 5:30, but I knew that I wanted to wake up before Chris did so that I could make his breakfast for a change. I quickly get up and pull on some sweatpants before heading to the kitchen to get started on breakfast. As I entered the living room, I could see that Chris was already awake and was in the middle of doing push-ups.

“Good morning,” he says. Without a pause, he continues his push-ups as he continues, “You’re up early today.”

“Good morning. I was hoping to be up before you, but clearly that was a failed attempt.” I replied.

“I didn’t sleep well last night so I figured I’d just start my workout a little earlier.” he says as he finishes his set.

Wondering if I was the reason he wasn’t able to sleep, I said, “Well, I’m going to cook breakfast today for a change, so enjoy the rest of your workout.”

With a teasing smile, he said, “You’re more than welcome to watch me again if you’d like. I don’t mind making breakfast later.”

As a blush creeps onto my face, I turn and go into the kitchen as I respond, “I’m going to get started on breakfast.”

By the time I finished cooking breakfast, he finished his workout and joined me in the kitchen as I plated our food. We began eating and although he complimented my food, it still wasn’t nearly as good as the food he has been cooking for me. Turning to ask him what we should do today, I found him already staring at me. “Do I have something on my face?” I ask as I begin to wipe my face with a napkin.

“No, you just look beautiful.” he replied with a smile on his face. 

As I feel myself blush, I decide to change the subject. “What do you think about going out to get a tree and a few Christmas decorations today?”

“That sounds good, but don’t forget we have to make a snowman today too.” he responded.

“Of course I didn’t forget, we’ll build a snowman once we get the tree and decorations inside.” I replied.

After we finished eating, we both went to our rooms to get ready. I decided to dress up a bit and put on a nice warm outfit as well as a cute jacket before grabbing matching gloves and a hat. As I returned to the living room, I found Chris already waiting for me. He looked handsome as well and we definitely looked like a couple going on a date. Realizing this I said, “While we are dressed up we should probably take some pictures together so that we can post them. Maybe if we take a few while shopping, it’ll look like we went out on a date.”

“It could be a real date if you want,” he said with a teasing smile. Turning serious he added, “You do look more beautiful than usual though.”

Avoiding the question, I put on my boots and grabbed my purse and keys before saying, “Let’s go, we have a lot of shopping to do.”

He follows me outside and we get into my car so that we can bring everything back more easily. The roads had been plowed and salted so driving wasn’t too bad. We went to the tree farm first and took our time going through the rows of trees. 

“Look at this one,” he says pointing at a tree to our right.

“It is really nice, but if you look at the ends of the leaves, they are slightly yellow. We don’t want to get a tree that’s just going to die immediately.” I responded. 

“You’re right, I didn’t even notice that.” he replies.

Going through the trees, we found trees that were too big, too small, too scrawny, ones that didn’t have enough branches and ones that had too many branches. There were also trees that leaned to the left or the right. Finally after about 30 minutes of searching we found the perfect tree. As I turn to tell him to look, I find him already looking at me. “This one is perfect.” we say simultaneously as we point at the tree. It was the perfect size and perfect proportions to fit in the corner of my small living room. 

After purchasing the tree, the both of us decide to go buy a few decorations. I already had some decorations at home, but I liked to purchase at least one new ornament a year and I looked forward to picking up some with him. We grab a few basic items, a couple more strings of lights, some more standard ornaments and then we search for the perfect ones to add to our tree. It didn’t take long for us to find a few ornaments that we agreed would be perfect on the tree and we grabbed a quick lunch before going to the grocery store. We quickly grabbed a few things in the grocery store and then we went home. 

Arriving back home, it was already almost 2 o’clock, so we decided to quickly bring everything in and put away the groceries before coming back out to make our snowman. It didn’t take long, since we were working together. Within 30 minutes we were heading back outside with carrots in hand. 

We quickly realized that he was much better at rolling the snowballs and placing them on top of each other, so I decided to focus on finding a few twigs and small stones for arms and eyes. It didn’t take long before we had two snowmen with cute little twig arms and carrot noses. Taking pictures of our snowmen and each other we decided to go inside to warm up and get started on dinner. 

Dinner was fantastic as usual and instead of starting on the decorations, we decided to resume playing our videogame. We played for several hours before deciding to call it a night and as I headed to bed, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment that our relationship hasn’t progressed especially after everything that happened last night. Exhaustion meant that I fell asleep within 5 minutes of my head hitting the pillow.
