In the depths of hell, fire erupted from pyres. The scent of burning flesh clung to the air and screams resounded round the clock. The ground itself was hot, humans ran about engulfed in flames others carrying large boulders over their backs, demons attacked one human in particular jabbing him with spears in both sides repeatedly, the wounds would fester in an instant, causing immense pain and would heal in minutes, allowing the process to continue for eternity. The man breaks free from his shackles and steals a spear from the demon, stabbing it into its head, then rolls off the table using it to guard against the other demon. He stabs it in the leg, causing it to fall over then, runs the spear through the demon’s chest.
“Like hell, I’m gonna take this lying down!” He exclaims. “The crimes I’ve committed don’t mean I should be tortured like this!”
He ran over to another demon catching it from behind as it tortured someone else, by repeatedly ripping his limbs off as they regenerated, and stabbing it in the back. The woman’s arms regenerate and the searing pain in her body begins to subside as she returns to her senses.
“You good? Let’s get out of here.” He states.
He tosses another spear to her and she looks at the spear in fear. Then looks back up to the man.
“Are you insane! Why did you try to save me?!” She exclaims.
“So we can work together to get out of here!” He shouts back.
“You don’t understand. The more you fight back and try to escape the worse it becomes!” She exclaims. “I already tried escaping!”
The man, looking at her turns his head when a giant booming noise lands in front of him. The shock alone whips up a crazy amount of wind pressure that nearly knocks him over. A giant demon with a frog-like body sits before him. Rock-like horns and appendages cover its body, and lava flows through the cracks between its skin. It croaks and as its neck expands, a pool of bright liquid appears in it along with what appears to be shadows of people. The frog demon opens its mouth, shooting its tongue out like a bullet, slamming into both people and pulling them both into the pool of lava in its mouth. Their bodies burn constantly, but they never turn to ash, instead, they continually heal while suffering the heat of the burns while being tossed about the rocky innards of the demon’s rough mouth. Slamming them into them while covered in burns.
“Glad that’s not us.” A man says while wearing a black cloak. Although his face was covered his red hair poked out of the cloak. His body while muscular and chiseled, was transparent.
A woman puts a finger to his mouth. Watching as the demon hopped away from their group. Her dark skin was visible beneath her cloak and her white hair was also visible from under the hood.
“We need to be very careful. We can’t afford to get caught otherwise we’ll end up like the rest of them.” She states. “Plus it's not just us, but all of them riding on this as well.”
Following closely behind them were ten or so people wearing similar cloaks with transparent bodies as well.
“Fair point. Did that guy really send all these mages here though?” He questions with a hand on his chin.
“He sent us here didn’t he?” She states. “So we need to get out of here because we don’t belong.”
“Then let’s make haste. I’d like to sleep on a bed as soon as possible.” He states.
The group carefully proceeded through hell. Stepping through the rocky terrain, careful not to alert any demons. They proceed through the main section of hell which was a long cavernous region with various pits of lava lying around. Every so often there were false patches of rock that gave way at the slightest touch, crumbling into the lava below. Demons rested in the shadows of the rocks overhead clinging tightly to stalactites. The further the party traveled the more demons they encountered, all varying in size, shape, and power.
“What exactly are we looking for?” Another person asks.
“A spire.” The white-haired woman states. “It’s the only structure that leads up and is the main place the demons escape from.”
“We must’ve been much further in than we thought.” The red-haired man states.
“I’d imagine they keep us this deep to prevent things like escape.” She says.
“Ah true. Wouldn’t it just be easier to lock the door?” He questions. “Assuming there is one, that is.”
“Who knows what constructed this place, I’d rather not find out.” She mutters.
“Even more so, with the fact that our ether has been drained.” Another speaks.
“Combat is way too dangerous for us right now. All we can do for now is sneak about.” She thinks.
They come upon another large corridor with a large number of demons obstructing the path. The demons screech like mad and throw their arms about. The group decides to sneak past. The white-haired woman goes first, quickly walking across without making a sound. Several others follow after her and the last person nervously walks across. They obsess over each step, looking around, and shaking. The ground shakes and the person loses their footing, causing them to fall to the ground. Their invisibility breaks and the demons face the fallen person. Demons begin pouncing toward them as the girl begins to sob with fear. The red-haired man runs in, kicking off the ground to grab her. After scooping her off the ground, he turns in mid-air landing on the wall, and kicks off landing with the group all as the demons barely miss him.
The demons begin crawling along the walls of the cavern, chasing after the group.
“Follow me! Move quickly!” The white-haired woman exclaims.
Everyone follows the white-haired woman as she leads them down the corridor with the group of hundreds of demons chasing after them. The group is desperately dashing through the caverns, jumping over pools of lava, narrowly avoiding demons from other paths trying to slip attacks through the group.
The red-haired man catches up to the white-haired woman, while still carrying the girl he saved.
“I haven’t gotten this much exercise in years.” He states.
“I’ve forgotten how monstrous your stamina is.” She states while panting.
“It’s just that you mages neglect to train your bodies.” He says while wagging his finger.
“Heh, you’re right. This reminds me of our first date.” She states.
“Oh, when we got chased by those reaper hounds?” He states. “That was a riot.”
The girl in his arms looks at the both of them as if they were insane, and looks back at the demons closing in on them.
“For you. I should’ve joined you for those morning trainings with you.” She groans.
“Can you take her for a bit? They’re getting a bit too close.”
He tosses the girl into the air to the woman and she catches her in her arms.
“At least I’m confident in my upper body strength.” She states.
The group turns a corner, and the red-haired man digs his hand into the wall. Then pulls it out, ripping out a large chunk of rock wall, and tosses it down the hall. When the demons turn the corner, quite a few of them are sent flying by the wall. While running he kicks into the ground causing the rocky platform to rise into the air and kicks it back into the demons.
“You guys are persistent.” He states.
He begins running along the wall and begins kicking stalactites back at the demons each one was sent flying with enough force to cause a loud whistling noise to erupt through the air. One after the other he would take out small groups of demons as they crash into the group. After thinning their numbers a bit, he picked up his pace and caught back up with the group in seconds.
“I slowed them down a bit.” He says.
“Good job.” She says.
“Kicking those stalactites reminded me of the duck hunting those nobles would do.” He states.
She starts laughing.
“Knowing you they probably were moving as fast as bullets. No matter the place you’re so absurd.” She states.
“That’s one of my best features.” He states.
The group comes upon a large elevating structure. A long serpentine path that stretched upward in a spiral formation. Standing directly at the center, they could see a light far in the distance.
“This is it!” She exclaims.
A giant shadow begins to appear from the light above.
“Move!” The red-haired man shouts.
Everyone dodges out of the way as a heavy object collides with the ground. Shaking the unstable platform and causing lava to get tossed around and dust to fill the air. When the dust cleared, the creature was the same frog from earlier, that now blocked their path.
“No! We’re right there!” The girl shouts in her arms.
She sets her down as the demons also begin pouring in from behind them. The demons surround them from both sides, leaving them stuck. The mages summon their staves and the woman grabs the rays of light coming down from the surface as if they were an object and shapes them into a pair of gauntlets. She hands them to the man, and he smirks.
“You know me so well.” He says.
“Heh, no one knows you better. We’ll hold off the riffraff, you handle the big one.” She states.
“This’ll be easier than deciding on an anniversary gift.” He says.
“You got that right. You got me the same thing twice in a row.” She says.
“Sorry about that… It slipped my mind…” He states.
The group prepared for the inevitable brawl to take place and readied their weapons.
