Wielder Of Fate
Chapter 11: Travel
“Your second gift will come in the form of an angel. You will find her before you leave Jakreth. She will be a close friend and an even mightier fighter.”
The God

The egg was like nothing I had ever seen before. Laying nestled on top of a soft mound of grass, Its rainbow stripes shone vibrantly under the golden hours of the sun.
Shaking, I cradled it in the palm of my roughened hands. Its texture was firm but smooth. I felt compelled to care for it, to nurture it. As my hands trailed around the width of the egg, I knew, that this was the second gift of the god.
I watched the sun as it rose above the trees and into the brightened sky, a distant roar sounded from across the clearing, no doubt the saddened goodbye of the egg’s mother.
I felt around my pocket, opening the god’s third gift. The egg dropped silently through the pouch's mouth, falling into the infinite void of nothingness.
I lay there silently, recalling the previous fight. A swarm of questions filled my mind. Nothing made sense to me, what was another magic user doing in Jakreth? Who were the prodigies? Why was she not being hunted by the legion as well?
There was no use pondering what I didn’t know, so instead of loitering in the open field, waiting for another beast (or prodigy) to come after me, I decided to continue trekking west to the harbour.
With every step I took, I felt I was getting closer to escaping the continent and studying magic abroad in the capital, which was a dream I had previously thought I would never fulfill.
The surrounding landscape of the forest seemed much less frightening in the warm solitude of daylight. Replacing the rabid wolves and dangerous beasts that appeared in the night came the refreshing chirps of all kinds of spectacular birds, insects, and creatures.
Thinking back, I had never really experienced the wonders of nature. Up until now, my days had been filled with mindless chores, errands, and punishments. For the first time in my life, I felt truly free. Free to pursue my curiosity of magic, and hone my skills in order to find the sword that would grant me unimaginable power, the power to wield my own fate.
After countless nights of marching through the unknown landscape, the air began to emit a refreshing salty breeze. Through the challenges of the forest I had prevailed, I had safely travelled to the harbour.
