Request for Job Offers

Dec 29, 2023

A short man with short brown hair made his tied around the hip black hoodie sway back and forth as he sighed in defeat.
"Ugh, I actually thought I had that job in the bag." he sighed, leaning his teal shirt sleeve  on the yellow wall for a moment, but managed to lean off and continuing to walk. "What went wrong?"
He then walked up to a white mobile home at the end of yellow fence. He walked up the cement stairs of the white home and pulled out a silver key from his light blue jeans to a bright yellow door. Walking through the kitchen and living room to the back of the house, a bedroom was waiting for him. Later that night, footsteps could be heard. The man went outside to see another man having arua of anger.
"Ben?"
"Go back to bed, Henry." the angry man proclaimed before slamming the door behind him.
Two weeks later, as the air grew colder, an knock finally fell on Henry's door along with a creek open sound. An elder woman peeked in to shadowy figure with black eyes looked back at her.
"Henry..son..do you want to help prepare for Thanksgiving." she said softly, peering even deeper to see the balled up tissues in the trash and the glow of a computer screen facing the figure. "Your brothers and sisters will be here in a few days and you known I tried to get Ben and Oliver to help, but they are... you know."
"Working?" Henry's hips smacked sharply at the utter mention of the word.
"...yeah."
Henry let a big sigh as he climbed out of bed towards the door.
As the table was set with food, plates, and utensils, Henry couldn't help but have a smile on his face. Ben and a guy with peppered hair was being scratched as he then scratched his butted covered in gray sweatpants. He let out a yawn, rubbing his belly which was covered by a white shirt.
"Oh, Thanksgiving is almost here?" the mother peeked from behind the kitchen counter, snapping, "Thankgiving is here! Go get changed, the both of you! Everyone is going be here any minute!"
The table fill of food placed for consumption has now other people besides the three men and the mother. Smiles and laughter filled mobile home. Five other people- three more women and two boys- filing in the happiness.
"Oh, oh, do you remember when I beat you in a Go Kart race." a woman with grey hairs as bright red highlighted her tips.
"Yeah, yeah. No ones cares." the guy with the peppered hair said abruptly.
"Hey, now just cause you got beat doesn't mean you get to be salty." another woman with light brown hair swinging her grap jiuced win glass around.
"Well, what about Casey? he said smirkly, laying his face on armstand in her direction.
"That game was fine." she responded, almost grinding her teeth together.
" yeah, it was fine?"
"Hey, Dad, I finally figured otu how to fix the tire of my car." she immedatiely stated, turningher direction from him to an elderlylooking man who sat besides the mother.
"Hey, don't ignore me!" the teasing pepper snapped, hitting the table edge.
Laughter then roared through the table until Henry heard the question," So Henry, have you found a job yet?"
The air grew cold and dim, causing Henry to stop his joyful laughter. He then looked to a typical man in suit staring back at him.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" the typical man grinned wider.
"I would otherwise, I wouldn't ask." the typical man placing his head on the enterwined fingers.
"Ugh, shut up, Allen." Henry mumbled under his breath, looking down at his empty plate. " I am still looking."
" Oh, good luck on your ventures." Allen continued, placing his fingers and grin down but his glaze never left.
"Do you..."
"Hey Allen, do you remember when your underwear was plasted outside your locker?"
"Hey,we said that would be buried to our graves!" Allen stated to yell as laughter started to roar again.
As the darkness covered the sky, the many people who filled th table to walk outside of mobile home.
Maybe I should have asked them for... Henry thought to himself, waving his last goodbye. No, maybe, I can do this on my own, even if it has been two months since I got a job before college. Maybe I can still get one.
