It took us about 30 minutes to arrive, and the location of the ceremony happened to be the large white cathedral I saw yesterday.
Standing in-front of the cathedral made me realize just how large the cathedral truly was and just how much effort was put into the construction of the building.
From the multiple glass windows that were evenly spaced throughout the front of the building, to the numerous spires that even without the obscurity of the night sky still seemed to pierce through the now bright blue sky.
While walking into the cathedral I couldn't help but notice just how many people where here, whether they are all here for the reason I am is still in question but it begged me to wonder about the other affairs that take place here.
The inside of the cathedral was slightly different than what I would expect in a place of worship, instead of walking straight into a nave from outside you first entered into a reception area.
In this reception area there were different electronic kiosks serving different purpose, few of them were information kiosk that depending on what you typed in the search bar would provide different information, and other kiosk served as a ticketing system for those without appointments.
In the midst of me taking in my surrounding my father started speaking in a loud voice to beat out the drowning voices surrounding us.
"We have already set up our appointment so we can go straight to the reception desk Lue, Bridgett stick close to us okay!"
"Okay."
We answered simultaneously, I grabbed my father stretched out hand while my sister grabbed my mother hand as we made our way towards the reception desk.
When we were a few steps away from the reception desk I felt someone grab onto my shoulder firmly. At first I thought it was my mother but the grip felt more burly.
I turned around to find a tall tan skinned, violet eyed older gentleman that looked to be in his late 50s to early 60s.
I stopped walking which caused my father to turn around.
"Why did you sto.."
He stopped talking in the middle of his question and his face contorted to one of surprise and panic that juxtaposed his usual calm, composed, and almost unemotional face.
"Father, what are you doing here."
From the words my father just said I surmised that this man must be my grandfather and based on his physical features and the fact that my paternal grandparents had passed I made the assumption that he was from my mother side of the family.
In a loud and hoarse voice that matched his large build he spoke.
"Father..hmm well I guess that may be true. I'm here since I heard through the vines that my grandson had his awakening."
He clearly didn't look pleased with my fathers way of addressing him which I found strange but the displeased look on his face changed to a haughty smile before he continued.
"It seems that no good daughter of mine actually did some good, after your first child I was worried but everything worked out in the end." My father clearly looked shaken up after what he said but he clearly couldn't care less. " I'll be siting in for his ability identification test if that's okay with you." While it may of seemed like a question it was anything but.
In this short interaction I was left confused on the relationship between him and my mother it made me certain of one thing though, currently he was looking down on both my mother and sister.
My mother who was trailing a few seconds behind us with my sister caught up to me and my father, and was slightly winded.
"Jerad why do you walk s..."
Once she realized who was standing next to me her initial bright violet eyes turned dark and she lowered here gaze as if she was ashamed to even be in the presence of the man.
My sister picked up on the change of attitude my mother had and looked as if she was about to cry for her but held it in, maybe it was because she could tell something was wrong but it showed me that she was slowly maturing as a person.
"Sophie, you look like you're doing well for yourself, I don't want to waste anytime so let's hurry up."
There was a clear sense of sarcasm in his greetings but once my grandfather said this he walked ahead of us all and my mother and father followed while pulling my sister and I along.
When we Arrived at the reception desk my mother and father were both silent and my grandfather took the lead of setting everything up.
"Their should be an appointment for five under the name of Lewis Raines."
The last name Raines struck me as familiar so I began searching through the depths of my memories to remember but gave up shortly after and decided to rely on Vee.
'Vee remind me about the name Raines."
'[The Raines family is actually one you wrote about, Gregory Raines was a supporting character in your novel that, while arrogant was one of the strongest fighters even when compared to the seven main characters.]'
It came back to me Gregory Raines posted the Blessed core [Herculean strength] it gave the user a huge strength boost to the point where a single punch could split mountains if one trained enough.
'Wait are you saying my mother is from that family'
'[Yes based on the family registry your mother is the middle child and has one older brother Jeffrey and a Younger sister Katherine both of which posses a blessed core.]'
In the midst of the info dump I was currently partaking I, my grandfather paused for a short while and realizing he had forgotten something spoke to the receptionist once more.
"Their should also be a appointment for the Stephenson for a group of four you can cancel that one."
He looked back at my father and mother before speaking again.
"That should be okay, right"
Both my mother and father nodded and he turned around satisfied that things were going his way.
The receptionist called someone over to lead us to the testing area, my grandfather with prideful steps followed the guide and beckoned the rest of us to follow to which my mother and father did obediently.
I know had some understanding on the reason why my mother was acting the way she was, but instead of making assumptions I decided to get information from the source.
"Mom, are you okay."
She gave a small nod and smile in an attempt to show that she was okay but it couldn't fool me.
"Umm..is that man my grandpa."
"Yes he is, for the most part though it is in name only."
In an attempt to act puzzled I put on a confused facial expression
"What do you mean?"
Mother was slightly hesitant to continue her eyes moving from me to her father .
"It's a little embarrassing but as you know I have no blessed core."
She put her hand over the right side of her chest as if she was searching for something she knew she would never find.
"Because of this your grandfather and I aren't on the best of terms, and when I got married to father we stopped communicating to each other all together."
She said it as if it was a mutual decision but from the short interaction I have observed it must of been much worse then she is letting on, while she tried to act indifferent while telling her story I could see behind the strong facade she was putting up.
Instead of trying to comfort her through words I simply clenched her hand tightly while continuing to walk by her side to which she did the same thing.
It took a few minutes but the guide stopped at a door and pressed a metallic cross he had around his neck against a sensor to which the door all white door slide open.
"This is where the test will take place."
He walked through the door and beckoned us to follow.
In the room there were 5 white indoor lounge chairs facing a glass panel with a metal door to the right of the glass panel, and a computer and desk in the right upper corner of the room.
On the other side of the glass panel there was a large black room with orange glowing dots floating around.
'Zinnias is that Edirem?'
'Yes it is.'
The amount of Edirem in the room was an amount I haven't seen before but more than anything I would of thought Edirem would have different colors but that wasn't the case.
'Is Edirem always an orange color, I would think there would be colors like red, blue, yellow, green, and so on to match the possible elemental spell castings.'
'For you at least free flowing Edirem will always look orange since the only reason you can see it is because of your connection to me, otherwise the room would of just looked empty to you.'
While what Zinnias said intreated me and I wanted to continue my conversation the guide interrupted my thoughts.
"Lue Stephenson would you please sit down in one of the chairs over there and stretch your right arm out for me.
I went for the chair closest to me and pulled my sleeve up so that all of my right arm was visible.
The guide then brought over a butterfly needle, disinfectant pads, and a collection tube.
"I'm going to draw a small amount of your blood to run some test on your ancestry." He looked at my parent before asking "is that okay?"
Both my parents nodded and the guide quickly drew my blood and packed it up. Once he set my blood sample to the side he handed something else to me.
"Put this on, you can wear it over you clothes and step into the opposite room an instructor will be in here shortly to tell you what to do once your in the room."
The clothing he handed me was a black leather onesie like garment with wires that were threaded along the outside and inside of the garment.
It was easy to slip into and once I put it on the baggy garment conformed to my body.
I walked up to the metal door and heard a click and hiss before it opened up, after I walked in it closed and locked by itself.
Inside the black room there was a light source coming from the celling that illuminated the whole room, and the Edirem floating around me started to draw towards me and the suit I was wearing began to heat up.
It wasn't long before I heard an unfamiliar voice over the intercom system.
"Hello my name is James Kingsley and I will be your instructor today, first I would like you to simply try to power your core."
"The room you are in is filled with Edirem and should naturally enter your system if you try to power your core."
I relaxed my body but before trying to power my core I needed to take some precautions.
'Zinnias I want you to enter my pseudo core and stop Edirem from flowing into it just incase there is something similar to the system at the hospital.'
'Understood leave it to me.'
With that out of the way I could participate in this test with little to no issues.
