Her brothers watched from a distance, their emotions a mixture of pride and sadness. Their beloved sister, so lovely and fierce, was soon to be married. They would miss her dearly, but they knew that she was ready to start her own family. They wished her all the happiness in the world.
"Do you see her? She looks so grand in that apron," Rhory whispered to his brothers, his voice quivering with admiration.
Achlys felt a deep sense of gloom and sadness well up inside him at the thought of his dear sister soon being gone and taken away by her fiancé. He sighed heavily.
"Well, what can we do? It's Papa's decision, and Franzlie has agreed to it," he said, his heart heavy.
"I sincerely hope that he will treat our sister with the utmost kindness and respect," Llyr hissed, clenching his fist. "If he does not, he will face my wrath."
Xanth looked at his brothers from one to the other, then rolled his eyes. He felt the same way they did, but he wanted to savor the moment that his sister was still with them. He took a deep breath and smiled at them.
"Today is a big day," he said. "Not a funeral, not a boxing match, and not a time for fangirling."
Xanth smiled broadly and walked away.
“Dudeee!!!” Rhory half screams as he chases after Xanth.
Llyr petulantly scoffed at Xanth,
"You are such a bummer! How could you ruin our nostalgic moments?"
"Please, stop sulking,"
Achlys implored his brothers, his heart aching.
"It will only burden her if she sees us unhappy. She is still here with us, and we should be happy for her."
"That is the wisest course of action."
Arthur replied with a blank expression.
"Let us dine now and not allow her efforts to go to waste, rather than sulking at her for no reason."
His expression remained cold and expressionless.
Franzlie set the table and served the food for everyone. She scrutinized every detail of the setting to make sure nothing was missing or needed to be added. She caught a glimpse of her father and walked over to him.
"Papa, breakfast is ready,"
Franzlie said cheerfully, greeting her father with a wide smile. She pulled out a chair for him.
"Papa, I know you love beef brisket. I cooked a whole pot, but for now, please have a bowl of this hot and steamy beef brisket. I also made your favorite cucumber and radish vinaigrette, and a cup of espresso made with love."
She smiled warmly as she served him.
"My dear sister, how can you spoil the old man so much? How heartless can you be? You would have us starve!"
Xanth implored her, looking at her with puppy’s eyes.
She rolled her eyes and tugged her brothers to a seat.
"Xanth, my dear brother does not look well," she chuckled as she replied to him..
"Wow! What a feast! I can't resist all this mouth-watering food you've prepared for us. What are we waiting for? Let's dig in!"
Achlys exclaimed, salivating at the sight of the food on the table as he pulled up a chair and began to eat.
Franzlie assisted her brothers in serving them. Llyr pulled out a chair for her and insisted she sit down.
"It's enough for us that you cooked our favorite meals. We are very grateful. You should eat too.”
He said as he scooped up some fried rice topped with salmon and fed it to her. He looked at her happily and winked.
“Sister, you nailed the food, he said with admiration. “I don’t know which I should eat first.”
Rhory drools and can’t pick which one he is going to eat.
“Damn!!!” Achlys exclaimed as he sat on the chair. “This is an unforgettable breakfast for me. Why on earth don't you show us your cooking skills?”
Achlys asked while he was busy fishing out spicy fried dumplings.
"You guys are always out of the country, that's why you wouldn't know about it."
She giggled, teasing her brother.
"Llyr, thank you."
Her smile was like a ray of sunshine, warm and blissful.
Arthur watched his children, his heart filled with both ecstasy and pain. He could see that his children loved each other dearly, and cherished every moment they had together. He shook his head and said,
"Do not forget what I have tasked you all with."
"Yes, Papa," they answered in unison.
Arthur smiled sadly. He knew that his children would never forget his words, but he also knew that they would soon be facing difficult times. He knows that they would be able to overcome these challenges.
"Would you be so kind as to pass me more dumplings and steamed buns?"
Rhory requested politely.
"I'm so glad we asked you to cook for us today," he added happily.
"I am impressed by your cooking skills."
Llyr said, taking a plate of sweet and sour salmon.
"How do you find the time to study cooking when you are always busy helping Papa with our business?"
Llyr enquiries her.
"I was at the orphanage that I sponsored,"
Franzlie explained with enthusiasm.
"Didn't Papa tell you that I am involved in civic work in addition to my business interests?"
She pulled a question to him in a polite manner.
Franzlie stood up and addressed her family.
"Maybe this will not be the last breakfast I have with you, but I will cherish this moment with all of you, my loving and compassionate family."
She felt emotional as she said goodbye to them.
"Silly girl, don't make Papa cry, or he will decline that engagement later,"
Achlys said, breaking the ice with a light-hearted scolding.
"You are our princess, and we are your siblings. Don't ever forget that."
Her eldest brother added, putting his arms around her shoulders and patting her head gently.
"OMG!" Xanth exclaimed, kneeling down and rolling his eyes comically. "Am I seeing the right thing? Our bully princess is bidding us goodbye emotionally? Aigo! What a miracle!"
The siblings' lighthearted banter was an attempt to lighten the mood and make their sister feel less lonely about their impending departure.
